阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D 四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
Hello, I’m Tony. I’m afraid of a lot of things: dogs, spiders, eye contact — and once for an entire decade I didn’t dare to set foot on a plane. I gave up a couple of job offers in other states, and missed out on quite a few free trips to Europe.
A year ago, I was tired of missing out so much on life, so I decided I would fix my problem. A friend introduced me to Tom, an experienced airline captain and licensed doctor. He specialized in treating the fear of flying. I ended up asking him every single question floating around in my head. He helped me get over some of my ridiculous fears.
Actually, if you have a specific motivation, it helps to overcome fear. For me, that motivation came when I landed a girlfriend who moved to Wisconsin shortly after we started dating. Every time I went to visit her, I had to take a 22-hour train ride, lying wide awake all the way. Fed up with it, I decided I would have to take the 2-hour plane ride to Wisconsin instead.
I watched hours of YouTube videos of planes taking off to picture how my coming trip would be before I finally booked my first plane ticket. The moment I got to the airport, I took medicine to keep myself from feeling sick. As the minutes ticked down before boarding, I spent some time watching some more YouTube videos. I also turned on music on my earphones to drown out the sounds of the airplane, and breathed deeply whenever I felt any signs of fear.
I was proud that I made it. Yes, courage is the key that will open many doors of opportunity, while moving you through seemingly impossible obstacles that are standing in your way.
21. What did Tony fear?
A. Plane rides. B. Train journeys. C. Free trips. D. Job offers.
22. How did Tony find his meeting with Tom?
英语(高考模拟试题) 第3页(共10 页)

23. Why did Tony watch YouTube videos at the airport?
A. His pilot friend asked him to.
B. He had too much time to kill.
C. They could drown out noises.
D. He wanted to ease his panic.
24. What does Tony think matters most when overcoming fear?
A. Medicine B. Opportunity C. Experience D. Courage

Over the past several months, TikTok videos have begun to go popular beyond the platform, winning millions of views on Twitter and Instagram. They’re easy to identify once you’ve seen a couple: 15-60-second-long clips set to music; often featuring someone lip-synching(假唱,对口型), dancing, or doing a trick. And the edits are fast: Watching too many in a row can feel like you’re about to have a brain freeze. They’re incredibly addictive.
Most people on the broader internet describe TikTok :" It’s so painful and embarrassing that a viewer can’t help but laugh". There are endless TikTok compilations on YouTube, many with millions of views. Earlier this month, a series of TikTok videos appear on Twitter. In one video, a man wearing a Walmart vest(背心) dances enegetically to Rihanna’s “S&M” in front of a Confederate flag in his bedroom.
Because the app merged(合并) with Musical.ly, which most people associated with children, there’s a prevailing idea that adults who make content on TikTok are weird. “To be a grown adult doing a cute karaoka video on an app and trying to make it popular is odd behavior,” said a popular Instagram memer(制作迷因的人), Jack Wagner.
But most adults using the app aren’t trying to go popular: They’re making TikTok videos because it’s fun. In a world where everyone’s content inevitably begins to look the same, TikTok videos feel odd and new. It’s an app full of people posting strange content to the internet with zero self-awareness or shame. That’s easy to mock(嘲笑,模仿), but it’s also what may lead to TikTok’s success.
25. Which of the following is wrong?
A. Tiktok videos have been popular over the past several months.
B. People will be addictive to Tiktok videos after watching some.
C. Tiktok videos are so embarrassing that most watchers can’t help laughing.
D. Most adults who post videos on Tiktok want to be well-known.
26. Which word has the similar meaning to the underlined word “prevailing” in Para3?
A. famous B. popular C. outstanding D. wonderful
英语(高考模拟试题) 第4页(共10 页)
27. What’s the best title for this passage?
A. TikTok: go popular beyond platform
B. Most people disgust Tiktok
C. TikTok is serious and that’s fine
D. TikTok videos: who likes it?
C
In today’s households where both parents go to work and kids have busy schedules with school, homework and many afternoon activities, finding time for a gathering at the table seems all but impossible. Yet, studies have shown time and again that eating together has multiple benefits for family members, especially children.
According to reports issued by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University(CASA), children who eat more with their family are at lower risk of developing poor eating habits, weight problems or alcohol dependencies. They tend to perform better academically than those who frequently eat alone. Family meals came into American life in the mid-20th century. In the 60’s and 70’s, social, economic and technological changes quickly dissolved the short-lived way of family meals. Restaurant visits, take-out and TV dinners have since become the norm (常态).
There are indications, however, that the old customs are coming back. According to the latest CASA reports, 59% of surveyed families said they ate dinner together at least five times a week, a significant increase from 47% in 1998. Whatever drives this trend, it is a development that should be welcomed.
Eating together as a family is not just about food and nutrition. It is about teaching them how to become members of their society and culture. Food has become so easily and cheaply available that we no longer appreciate its significance. We have to rediscover its importance and its value. Sharing a meal with loved ones should be considered a special event, which can almost take on the form of a ceremony, as it was practiced by our ancestors for whom finding food was a constant struggle.
Of course, there is no guarantee that the simple act of eating at home surrounded by family may make children more virtuous or socially more responsible. But it can lay the groundwork for a lot of things that point them in the right direction.
28. What does the underlined sentence suggest?
A. The society was to develop at a rapid speed.
B. Dining at home would enjoy great popularity.
C. This practice of family meals started to change.
D. Americans would attach importance to take-out.
29. What is the writer’s attitude towards eating together as a family?
A. Favorable. B. Disapproving. C. Reserved. D. Objective.
30. From the passage we learn our ancestors possibly _____.
英语(高考模拟试题) 第5页(共10 页)

Students who have used electronic cigarettes by the time they start ninth grade are more likely than others to start smoking traditional cigarettes and other burnable tobacco products within the next year, according to a new study funded by the National Institutes of Health. E-cigarettes deliver nicotine to the lungs by heating a liquid solution that contains nicotine and other chemicals.
The study compared the start of tobacco use among 222 students who had used e-cigarettes, but not burnable tobacco products, and 2,308 who had neither used e-cigarettes or burnable tobacco products when initially surveyed at the start of ninth grade. During the first six months after being surveyed, 30.7 percent of those who had used e-cigarettes started using burnable tobacco products, such as cigarettes, and cigars, compared to only 8.1 percent of those who had never used e-cigarettes. Over the following six months leading into the start of 10th grade, 25.2 percent of e-cigarette users had used burnable tobacco products, compared to just 9.3 percent of nonusers.
“While teen tobacco use has fallen in recent years, this study confirms that we should continue to pay much attention to teen smoking patterns,” said NIDA Director Nora D. Volkow, M.D. “Parents and teens should recognize that although e-cigarettes might not have the same poisonous effects of regular cigarettes, they do carry a risk of addiction.”
Data were collected among 10 public high school students in Los Angeles. The analysis focused on 2,530 students who initially reported never using burnable tobacco and underwent follow-up assessments after six and 12 months. Students were asked about lifetime and past six-month use of e-cigarettes, burnable cigarettes, and alike.
“Recreational e-cigarette use is becoming increasingly popular among teens who have never smoked tobacco. Adolescents who enjoy the experience of taking nicotine by e-cigarettes could be more likely to experiment with other nicotine products, including smokeable tobacco,” said Adam M. Leventhal, Ph.D., the first author on the study. “While we cannot conclude that e-cigarette use directly leads to smoking, this research raises concerns that recent increases in youth e-cigarette use could ultimately contribute to smoking-related illness."

Dear Sir,
I’m Li Hua from class one, senior three. I’m writing in reply to the notice for host families. I argue I have enough reasons to accommodate one foreign friend. First of all, I am sure that my English is frequent enough to communicate with foreigners. Also, I am communicative as well . As for my accommodation, my family live in a four- room apartment and there is always a spared room for the guest. Moreover, my home’s location makes it convenient to take either subways or buses to most places. Most importantly, I have got support from my parents, who said “yes” without hesitation when informed of my wish.
I would be more than glad if my application can be taken into consideration.
Yours,
Li Hua

W: Oh, that's too bad. Do you have some suggestions for the bus company?
M: Try to have the bus to arrive on time, of course, and um there can be a map on the bus. You know some passengers cannot use the guide book very well.
W: Thank you very much for your help.
M: You are welcome.
Text10
Hello, everyone. It is indeed a great pleasure to have this chance to address such a large audience this evening. I'm Pierre shublaw from the University of Marsay. At the moment I'm carrying every search in Senegal for the United Nations as a part of project to increase the world food production. Before I get on to(开始谈论) what exactly we did in our research, I would like to explain briefly the purpose behind it. Quite simply my subject is rice. As you all know, rice is the main food for millions of people in the world. So if the rice crops fail, millions of people starve and die. And they do fail, very often through disease.
Now what my colleagues and I have been doing out in the field in Senegal as well as in the university laboratory is to try to produce a disease-resisting variety of rice, a particular kind of rice which will resist disease, in other words, a stronger type of rice.

C. They could drown out noises.
D. He wanted to ease his panic.

A. valued the education of children B. appreciated the importance of food

When I was growing up,I had an old neighbor named Dr, Gibbs. He didn’t look like any doctor I'd ever known. He never 36 at us for playing in his yard. I remember him as someone nice and 37 .
When Dr. Gibbs wasn’t saving 38 , he was planting trees. His house sat on ten acres(英亩), and his life’s 39 was to make it a forest.
But he 5 believed in “No pains, no gains”. He 40 watered his new trees, which was 41 many people. Once I asked why. He said that watering plants would 42 them, and that 43 you water them, each following 44 of tree will grow weaker and weaker. So you have to make things 45 for them.
He’d planted an oak, and instead of watering it every morning, he’d 46 it with a rolled-up newspaper. I asked him why he did that, and he said it was to cause the tree’s 47 .
Dr. Gibbs went away a couple of years ago. 48 , I walk by his house and look at the trees that I’d watched him plant some twenty-five years ago. They’re big and 49 now. Sufferings seemed to 50 them in ways ease and 51 never could ways.
Every night before I go to bed, I check on my two sons. I often pray for them. Mostly I pray that their lives will be 52 . But lately I’ve been thinking that it’s time to 53 my prayer. I know my children are going to encounter 54 , and I’m praying they will be strong. There’s always a cold wind blowing somewhere. What we need to do is pray for roots that reach deep into the earth, so when the rains fall and the winds blow, we won’t be 55 .

第二节 概要写作(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Yours,
Li Hua

According to a new study, students who have used e-cigarette are more likely to start smoke traditional ones. The data collected by the study, showed that a lot more youth e-cigarette users turn the traditional tobacco users in the following year than the non users. W: I see. I can read it then before the next class.
M: um, Julia, I'm calling as I wonder if you are free on Saturday night. My friend Max is having a party and I'd like to know if you want to go.
W: That would be really nice. I'll be free then. What time should we go?
M: How about meeting in the Students' Union bar at 7:00.

W: Excuse me, I'm doing research on bus service. Could I get you to answer a few questions? It won't take long.
M: OK. I like to help.
W: Thanks. How often do you take a bus? Every day? Less than once a week? or somewhere in between.
M: I go to school by bus. So it's usually twice daily, Line Four.
W: I see. Could you rate it service? If One is poor, Two is fair, and Three is good, which number would you choose?
M: I would say Two. The drivers are nice. The buses are clean and the seats are comfortable, but it's sometimes unreliable. There should be a bus every ten minutes. But yesterday morning I waited almost twenty minutes before the bus came and was almost late for school.
W: Oh, that's too bad. Do you have some suggestions for the bus company?
M: Try to have the bus to arrive on time, of course, and um there can be a map on the bus. You know some passengers cannot use the guide book very well.
W: Thank you very much for your help.
M: You are welcome.
