When I was a child I used to come home crying because of others picking on me. My mom and grandmother were always there offering me a shoulder to cry on. My grandfather (who is a good person), however, made me feel like a whale in a small house.
When I grew up, I would get angry and tell him off, not using rude words but just saying how I felt when he said those things to me. I understand he has meant to help but to me, that's not the case. It has to be my decision not anyone else's. He has laid off such things, but every time I see some Slim-Fast commercials or something, I tense up when he is in the room because he reminds me of the word ”You need to lose weight. ”
I live with my "problem" 24/7. I know that I am large. Now, I don't hear him say that anymore. I do tense sometimes when the news talks about overweight children. It is hard for someone else to understand the mental and physical stress from peer(同龄人) pressure. It is just like a huge rock pressing my heart. I sometimes want to scream, I know that there are health problems associated with being overweight, but so is smoking, drinking and the list goes on.
Knowing what though, I love me for me. I don't want to change. I like to stick out in a crowd. I will be remembered. I am different. I am a BBB (Big Beautiful Brunette) ,who is successful in whatever 1 do, wherever I go.
Here are some useful tips when you are feeling blue : maximize your good points and minimize the bad ones. No one is perfect. Be happy for who you are not what you look like. Beauty fades in time, but what you are inside is there forever. Live life to the fullest and enjoy who you are. There is only one you. No one else can fill those unique shoes.(改编自浙江新高考原创冲刺卷5)

A new product from Microsoft Corporation can do just that for people who have trouble seeing. They may be blind or visually challenged, The product, an app, is called Seeing AI. AI is short for artificial intelligence, a term for computers with an ability to think and learn like human beings.
Seeing AI is currently available for free for Apple's iPhone and iPad in Canada, Hong Kong, India, 1 New Zealand, Singapore and the USA. It has four channels: Short Text, Document, Product, and Person. After you download it, the app will show video directions for each channel. And the app uses both a camera and artificial intelligence to identify places, objects and people ( even the emotions of people).
People can use Seeing AI to learn words in English. With the app open, you can point your iPhone or iPad at any object and it will say what the object is. People can also use the app when going to a store or supermarket. It can read product bar codes(条形码) so users will know whether a can is filled with fruit or dog food.. In addition, at restaurants, diners can use it to hear a list of drinks and other menu offerings. It can recognize both food choices and prices. And in the near future, it will be able to identify banknotes so people know whether the bill that they are holding is worth $ 100or $ 1.
However, as a new app, Seeing AI will not be corret100% of the time. For example, someone is smiling, which does not necessarily mean he is happy. C
We give toys to kids who otherwise wouldn’t have them. Load bags with canned foods for the
hungry. Make donations to those who need it. This time of year, it seems, we focus more on doing good and being good. Certainly, that's not a bad thing.
But, is all that kindness selfish? Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley say that
kindness, and related qualities like sympathy and compassion are actually a form of self-
preservation. Those who give more, get more. The most generous among us have greater
influence and are more popular. Whereas, the unkind and unhelpful are more likely to be cast
adrift from us. After all, it stands to reason, that if I'm paddling your lifeboat, you’ll keep me
    afloat a little longer.
So, is kindness motivated by our real concern for others or are we do-gooders because it
makes us look good and shores up our position in the ecosystem? Probably both. Most of us really enjoy helping others. It makes us feel good, connected, happy and that makes for a healthier more satisfying life. But, it doesn’t hurt that we also receive other rewards — status, cooperation, Influence — that will help us survive and become successful.
Despite all the benefits, I tend most often toward kindness only when it's convenient. That
doesn't mean I have bad manners. I say my pleases and thank-yous. I hold the door open for
passengers. But, I could be kinder, more often. Sometimes I'm stopped from doing good by just
how to do it. Sometimes, I'm just not thinking enough about others to recognize the need.
    Sometimes, I’m plain, old selfish.
I'm working to be more aware of those around me. To slow down and move with patience and
purpose on the freeway. To be more kind. My acts of kindness aren’t complex or flashy — I'm not the type. They aren't expensive — I’m too cheap. But those things aren’t required. You don’t have to feel guilty that your kind gesture wasn't as big as say, Oprah building a school in Africa. Kindness can be a small, simple act and still make an extremely large impact. Notice a need and then consciously offer a bit of yourself.(改编自绍兴市二模)

    D. It doesn’t count in building a good relationship.

    A. making large donations to those poor people
    B. doing good to people around him anywhere and anytime

    A. acts of kindness can be something simple and practical
    B. acts of kindness should be something impressive

In many countries the best, and sometimes only, path to acceptance to a university is having high test scores or good grades.
In the US, admissions officials almost always ask students to list the activities they are involved in outside of the classroom in their applications. 31 This method of considering both academic success and non-academic skills is known as holistic (全面的) admissions.
The more a school knows about a student’s interests, the more they understand the student.
32 The best American universities receive thousands of applications from both inside and outside the country. For example, Washington University had over 30,000 applicants for the 2017 school year. But it only had room to accept about 16 percent of them.
33 What would schools value more: playing basketball or singing in a musical group? Is it more important to spend weekends serving free food to homeless people or cleaning up a public park?
Thinking about holistic admissions in this way is not helpful. Instead of trying to figure out which activities are better than others, you should think about which activities serve you best as an individual.
    34
A student could explain their interest in reading many books or even exploring their home city. 35 Students, for example, can bring attention to their special qualities in the writing samples they provide, or the letters they ask teachers to write in support of them.
Students should trust that admissions officials will consider their personal history and what might have been available to them. The holistic method lets them pay more attention to the qualities they are looking for, not only academics.(改编自镇海中学全真模拟卷)
    A. Many universities only value test scores.
    B. You can do almost anything, as long as it’s legal.
    C. It’s difficult to choose an activity that suits you best.
    D. Some students might wonder how to choose activities.
    E. This is especially important for the top universities in the US.
    F. These activities can show that a student possesses the qualities they are looking for.
    G. Also, there are other places where a student can describe their non-academic interests.

Students who have used electronic cigarettes by the time they start ninth grade are more likely than others to start smoking traditional cigarettes and other combustible tobacco products within the next year, according to a new study funded by the National Institutes of Health.
The study compared tobacco use initiation among 222 students who had used e-cigarettes, but not combustible tobacco products, and 2,308 who had neither used e-cigarettes or combustible tobacco products when initially surveyed at the start of ninth grade. During the first six months after being surveyed, 30.7 percent of those who had used e-cigarettes started using combustible tobacco products, such as cigarettes, and cigars, compared to only 8.1 percent of those who had never used e-cigarettes. Over the following six months leading into the start of 10th grade, 25.2 percent of e-cigarette users had used combustible tobacco products, compared to just 9.3 percent of nonusers.
“While teen tobacco use has fallen in recent years, this study confirms that we should continue to carefully watch teen smoking patterns,” said NIDA Director Nora D. Volkow, M.D. “Parents and teens should recognize that although e-cigarettes might not have the same harmful effects of regular cigarettes, they do carry a risk of addiction.”
Data were collected as part of a survey of substance use and mental health among high school students in Los Angeles. The study surveyed students from 10 public high schools and the analysis focused on 2,530 students who initially reported never using combustible tobacco and underwent follow-up assessments after six and 12 months. Students were asked about lifetime and past six-month use of e-cigarettes, combustible cigarettes, full-size cigars, little cigars/cigarillos, hookah water pipes, and blunts.
“E-cigarette use is becoming increasingly popular among teens who have never smoked tobacco.” said Adam M. Leventhal, Ph.D., the first author on the study. “While we cannot conclude that e-cigarette use directly leads to smoking, this research raises concerns that recent increases in youth e-cigarette use could finally contribute to smoking-related illness."(原创)

    一、评分原则
    1.本题总分为25分,按5个档次给分。
    2.评分时,先根据所写概要的内容和语言初步确定其所属档次,然后以该档次的要求来衡量、确定或调整档次,最后给分。
    3.词数少于40的和多于80的,从总分中减去2分。
    4.评分时,应主要从以下四个方面考虑:
    (1)对原文要点的理解和呈现情况;
    (2)应用语法结构和词汇的准确性;
    (3)上下文的连贯性;
    (4)对各要点表达的独立性情况。
    5.拼写与标点符号是语言准确性的一个重要方面,评分时,应视其对交际的影响程度予以考虑。
