    第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分35分)
    第一节(共10小题;每小题2.5分,满分25分)
    阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题纸上将该项涂黑。
    A
When Christa Pare's father, Jim, died of cancer, finding a home for Tundra became a priority. The five years old dog had been Jim's constant companion. Pare had asked two of Jim's good friends to adopt the dog, but there was a problem: The couple lived in Thunder Bay, a l3-hour drive from Pare's home in Renfrew, Ont. It would cost more than $800 to fly to Thunder Bay, and Pare, a radio host, was already sparing extra time in the booth to pay for funeral costs.
A relative who had heard of Pare's dilemma directed her to the Facebook page of Furry Hobos N Hiway Heroes, hoping the group might help. The four-year-old organization is the brainchild of Margaret Foster Hyde, a retired trucker who dreamed up the plan of pairing dogs in need with long- distance truck drivers when she realized how expensive it would be to get her newly adopted dog, Barkley, from Sudbury to Thunder Bay. Back then, Foster Hyde called up a friend who worked the route and asked if Barkley could hitch a ride.
When Pare heard back from Foster Hyde, she was so relieved that she cried. “Beyond the cost, to have to crate (将某物装入大木箱) Tundra and put him on a plane by himself after he lost his best friend would have been awful,” she says. “He loves being in a vehicle—this was a perfect solution.”
At her home outside Thunder Bay, Foster Hyde has three whiteboards set up in the living room. One tracks the drivers’ routes; one is for the dogs who need rides and one is for the dogs already in transit. Foster Hyde estimates that they've transported about 300 to 400 dogs across Canada and the United States.
As for Tundra's comparatively short-haul trip from Renfrew, it was made possible by a driver named Greg Rumbolt, who dropped the dog off at the Pass Lake truck stop near Thunder Bay this past January. The instant Rumbolt opened the cab's door, Tundra leaped out onto the snow to meet his new owners. He was home.
     21. What probably made Pare worried after her father died?
    A. She lost her job as a radio host.
    B. She had to move to a faraway city.
    C. Nobody would like to adopt Tundra.
    D. She couldn't afford to send Tundra to Thunder Bay.
    22. Why did Pare cry after hearing back from Foster Hyde?
    A. She lost her dear father.
    B. She was moved by Foster Hyde.
    C. She couldn’t fly Tundra to Renfrew.
    D. She would have no chance to see Tundra.
    23. What can be the best title for this text?
    A. Kind trucker takes the dog to his new home.
    B. Adopting a dog makes your life happy.

A new study led by MIT researchers takes a creative way to model the influences of both climate change and economic growth on Asia.
To examine the risk of water shortages in Asia, the researchers made detailed simulations (模拟) of many reasonable economic and climate pathways for Asia in the future, knowing the relative influences of both pathways on water. By studying cases in which economic change (or growth) continues but the climate remains unchanged— and vice versa—the researchers could better know the degree to which these fac-tors cause water shortages.
The MIT-based team found that with no limitations in economic growth and climate change, 200 million people across Asia would face terrible water shortages by 2050. However, fighting climate change along the lines of the 2015 Paris Agreement would reduce by around 60 million the number of people facing water problems.
But even with worldwide efforts to limit climate change, there is a 50 percent chance that around 100 million people in southern and eastern Asia will experience a 50 percent increase in "water stress"—their inability to get safe water—and a 10 percent chance that water shortages will double for them.
“We do find that the lessening strategy can reduce the serious risk of water stress in Asia," say Adam Schlosser and Xiang Gao, two of the researchers. “But it doesn’t solve all."
The research team also used models that track industrial activities and their specific water-demand results across many smaller areas in Asia.Irrigation may be a major driver of water use, leading to limited use of water for other things.
Overall, through the mid-21st century, economic growth leads to an increase in water stress across the whole region, but climate change can have both positive and negative influences on water stress. The study turns up a notable amount of regional difference in the influences of climate change within Asia. Climate change by itself is likely to have a worse influence on water access in China than in India, for example, where a warming climate could produce more rain.
    24. How many people will face water shortages after dealing with the climate change by 2050?
A.200 million people. B.140 million people.
C.100 million people.   D.60 million people.
25.what is “the lessening strategy” in paragraph 5?
    A. The 2015 Paris Agreement.
    B. The study led by MIT researchers.
    C. The limitation in economic growth.
    D. The case of fighting climate change.
    26. From the study led by MIT researchers, we know .
    A. economic growth has a greater influence than climate on Asia
    B. economic growth has a positive influence on Asia's water
    C. climate change only does great harm to water stress
    D. climate change influences China and India differently.

    C
Teens are now less likely to do part-time jobs, drink alcohol or go out without their parents than their counterparts 10 or 20 years ago. This generation of teens is delaying the responsibilities and pleasures of adulthood. Some people think that today's teens are more virtuous (有道德的) and responsible. Other-s have suggested that today's teens aren't working because they are simply lazy.
To figure out what's really going on, we should look at these trends with “life history theory" taken into consideration. A “fast-life method” was the more common parenting approach in the mid-20th century, when fewer labor-saving devices were available and the average woman had four children. The parents needed to focus on day-to-day survival. As a result, kids needed to care for themselves sooner. A "slow-life method", on the other hand, is more common in times and places where families have fewer children and spend more time on each child's growth and development. When the average family has two children, preparing for college can begin as early as primary schools. The two methods are adaptations to a particular cultural background, so each isn't naturally “good" or “bad".
Delaying exposure to alcohol, then, could make young adults less prepared to deal with drinking in college. One study found teens who rapidly increased there binge-drinking(酗酒)were more at risk of alcohol dependence than those who learned to drink over a longer period of time. The same might be true of teens who don't work, drive or go out much in high school. College administrators describe students who can't do anything without calling their parents. Employers worry that more young employees lack the ability to work independently.
However, the “slow-life method” is also likely beneficial as teens are spending more time developing socially and emotionally before they drive, drink alcohol and work for pay. The key is to make sure that teens eventually get the opportunity to develop the skills they will need as adults: independence, along with social and decision-making skills. For parents, this might mean pushing their teenagers out of the house more.
    27. According to the text, teens in the past were more .
    A. reliable B. innocent
    C. intelligent D. independent
    28. What plays a vital role in the trend of teens growing up more slowly?
    A. Cultural changes. B. Social standard.
    C. Educational development. D. Methods of education.
    29. What does the author advise parents to do?
    A. Spend less time in accompanying their children.
    B. Force their children to leave home at an early age.
    C. Encourage their children to take part in social activities.
    D. Help their children to get to adulthood as soon as possible.
    30. Which of the following can be the best tile for the text?
    A. How teens develop skills they need in future.
    B. Teens take no responsibility for what they do.
    C. Why today's teens aren't in any hurry to grow up.
    D. Nowadays teens can't make decisions by themselves.

    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
We accomplish goals one step at a time, doing a little each day. 31 Most experts who share advice on how to achieve our life goals agree on one thing: Starting our day on the right foot is most important.
    Get up an hour early.
Some studies show that our willpower and attention are the strongest in the morning. People who rise early have a head start and, therefore, are more likely to succeed. 32 He once said, “Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise."
Drink a glass of water with lemon juice.
33 Before that, drink a glass of water with lemon juice. Why? Health experts say that drinking a combination of lemon juice and water first in the morning jump-starts your metabolism (新陈代谢). Not only does it start your body's cells, but this kind of drink also keeps them moving throughout the day. 34
Your coffee or tea is ready, so you decide to open up your Facebook account. Well, don't. We've all done it. You see a Facebook post from a friend. He is angry about some political issues and the heated discussion pulls you in. Before you know it, an hour has passed. You hurry out so as not to be late for work. This is not the good way to start your day.
    Exercise.
Some people may disagree with this one. But physical fitness experts and trainers often suggest some form of exercise in the morning because the middle of the day is a busy time for most people. 35
    A. Benjamin Franklin would probably agree.
    B. Thus, using your day effectively is important.
    C. Don't jump into social media as soon as you get up.
    D. You are one step closer in reaching one of your life goals.
    E. You may usually enjoy a cup of coffee or hot tea in the morning.
    F. By the day's end, you may not have the time or energy to exercise.
    G. In American English, we like to say, “The early bird gets the worm."

    第二节 概要写作(满分25分)

Students who have used electronic cigarettes by the time they start ninth grade are more likely than others to start smoking traditional cigarettes and other combustible tobacco products within the next year, according to a new study funded by the National Institutes of Health. E-cigarettes deliver nicotine to the lungs by heating a liquid solution that contains nicotine and other chemicals to produce an aerosol that the user inhales, a process often called “vaping.”
The study compared tobacco use initiation among 222 students who had used e-cigarettes, but not combustible tobacco products, and 2,308 who had neither used e-cigarettes or combustible tobacco products when initially surveyed at the start of ninth grade. During the first six months after being surveyed, 30.7 percent of those who had used e-cigarettes started using combustible tobacco products, such as cigarettes, and cigars, compared to only 8.1 percent of those who had never used e-cigarettes. Over the following six months leading into the start of 10th grade, 25.2 percent of e-cigarette users had used combustible tobacco products, compared to just 9.3 percent of nonusers.
“While teen tobacco use has fallen in recent years, this study confirms that we should continue to vigilantly watch teen smoking patterns,” said NIDA Director Nora D. Volkow, M.D. “Parents and teens should recognize that although e-cigarettes might not have the same carcinogenic effects of regular cigarettes, they do carry a risk of addiction.”
Data were collected as part of a longitudinal survey of substance use and mental health among high school students in Los Angeles. The study surveyed students from 10 public high schools selected because of their diverse demographic characteristics and proximity. The analysis focused on 2,530 students who initially reported never using combustible tobacco and underwent follow-up assessments after six and 12 months. Students were asked about lifetime and past six-month use of e-cigarettes, combustible cigarettes, full-size cigars, little cigars/cigarillos, hookah water pipes, and blunts.
“Recreational e-cigarette use is becoming increasingly popular among teens who have never smoked tobacco. Adolescents who enjoy the experience of inhaling nicotine via e-cigarettes could be more apt to experiment with other nicotine products, including smokable tobacco,” said Adam M. Leventhal, Ph.D., the first author on the study. “While we cannot conclude that e-cigarette use directly leads to smoking, this research raises concerns that recent increases in youth e-cigarette use could ultimately perpetuate the epidemic of smoking-related illness.

M: How nice! I`m planning a holiday, too!
    (Text2)
W: The Smiths have decided to sell their house and move to the countryside. It is quite beyond my understanding.

    (Text3)
W: Excuse me. Is there any mail for me? The name is Williams.
M: Let me see, Oh, yes, two letters and a postcard. Oh, and a parcel here.

M: What`s the big deal about missing some classes?
W: The big deal is that you`re here on a student visa.
    M: So?
W: So, if you don`t attend classes regularly, you won`t be a full-time student—which your visa requires.

M: Ok, I`ll write them in the bottom right-hand corner.
W: Right. Plus, we need a ticket number because we`ll have a lucky draw in the end. So, don`t forget to put the ticket number in the top left-hand corner. Oh, hold on, the top right-hand corner is better. Hmm…what else should we have on the ticket?
M: The location? Last time. Zoe told me It`s probably held in Kowloon Park.
W: No, it`s changed already, But before talking about that, we`ve got to talk about something else. It`s the most important. Please put our center`s name, “Reborn Training Center”. M: Yeah, But I am going to visit some relatives and friends in London.
W: Are you going by plane? The train station is such a long way from your home.

    (text 10)
W:Hello, everyone. My name's Cindy. I'm from a group called "Nature". We run courses for young people like you to do during weekends. Now I'd like to tell you about the courses you can do on Saturday mornings. You learn a lot about things like science and math at school. These courses are really about giving you students the chance to come and find out wildlife. It's an area that tends to get forgotten. We usually take students to a wild place that's near their home. Sometimes we go to a beach or a lake, but we've planned for you to go to a forest this time. That's the closest place for you, and the easiest to get to. To take part in our activities means you get to do all sorts of things icluding building a fire, which you wouldn't normally be allowed to do at home. While you're with us, we'll also show you how to make things out of different materials. On the last course, everyone designed backpacks which they were very pleased with. This time we'd get you to design and mak-e a birdhouse. When it is finished, you can take it home and show it to your family. W think you’ll really enjoy this. Now, we’d like you to come and do some activities with us. You spend three hours each week with us and the courses last for 12 weeks. That might sound like a long time, but we think you’ll be sorry when it’s over. Now, any questions?
