第I卷
A
A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure. Because the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart, crossing one leg over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate.
Crossing your legs can also lead to neck and back pain. Ideally, it’s best for our bodies to sit with our feet planted flat, hip width apart, on the floor, but it’s not easy to maintain perfect posture all day at the office. When you sit with your legs crossed your hips are in a twisted position, which can cause one of your pelvic(骨盆) bones to rotate. Since your pelvic bone supports your neck and spine, this can cause pressure on your lower and middle back and neck.
You also might notice that when you sit with your legs crossed for long periods of time your feet and legs get tingly or have the feeling of being asleep. This is because when one leg sits on top of the other it causes pressure on the veins and nerves in your legs and feet, leading to numbness and/or temporary paralysis(瘫痪) in the legs, ankles, or feet. While the feeling of discomfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage.
So next time you sit down, try to get yourself in the habit of sitting with both of your feet on the floor. Not only will it help your posture and stability, but it will also save your health in the long run.
21. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To warn us against the negative effects of crossing legs
B. To advocate a healthier way of living
C. To help correct our posture
D. To present the possible dangers of sitting with legs crossed
22. It is advisable not to sit with our legs crossed for long in that _____________________.
A. it might lead to high blood pressure
B. it might do damage to our nerves
C. it might cause our bones to rotate
D. it might cause paralysis
23. Which of the following shows the structure of the whole text?

Microsoft has developed a new smartphone app that interprets eye signals and translates them into letters, allowing people with motor neurone disease to communicate with others from a phone.
The GazeSpeak app combines a smartphone’s camera with artificial intelligence to recognize eye movements in real time and convert them into letters, words and sentences.
For people suffering from ALS(渐冻症), also known as motor neurone disease, eye movement can be the only way they are able to communicate.
“Current eye-tracking input systems for people with ALS or other motor impairments are expensive, not robust under sunlight, and require frequent re-calibration and substantial, relatively immobile setups,” said Xiaoyi Zhang, a researcher at Microsoft who developed the technology.
“To mitigate the drawbacks…We created GazeSpeak, an eye-gesture communication system that runs on a smartphone, and is designed to be low-cost, robust, portable and easy to learn.”
The app is used by the listener by pointing their smartphone at the speaker. A chart that can be stuck to the back of the smartphone is then used by the speaker to determine which eye movements to make in order to communicate.
The sticker shows four grids of letters, which each correspond to a different eye movement. By looking up, down, left or right, the speaker selects which grids the letters they want belong to. The artificial intelligence algorithm is then able to predict the word or sentence they are trying to say.
Zhang’s research, Smartphone-Based Gaze Gesture Communication for People with Motor Disabilities, is set to be presented at the Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems in May.
4. How does the GazeSpeak app help ALS suffers speak with their eyes and communicate with others?
A. It combines a smartphone’s camera with artificial intelligence to recognize eye movements in real time.
B. It performs frequent re-calibration and substantial, relatively immobile setups.
C. It interprets eye signals and translates them into letters.
D. It is designed as a low-cost, robust, portable and easy to learn system.
5. What does “they” in the seventh paragraph refer to?
A. grids B. speakers C. letters D. movements
6. What can be inferred from the passage?
A. For people suffering from ALS, eye movement can be the only way they are able to communicate.
B. Current eye-tracking input systems are expensive, but robust under sunlight.
C. The chart stuck to the back of the smartphone is the key to helping ALS suffers.
D. Xiaoyi Zhang’s research has not been presented yet.

On the day the tornado hit, there was no indication severe weather was on its way—the sky was blue and the sun had been out. The first alert my husband, Jimmy, 67, and I, 65, got came around 9 p.m., from some scrolling text on the TV Jimmy was watching.
No sooner had we found coverage of the tornado than it was on top of us. The house shook violently, the power went out, and even the wind began to roar through the house. We intended to shelter in the closet of the first floor, which seemed like the safest place, but before getting there, we had to get through three flights of steps. I didn’t know how or if we would make it down the steps, as the wind lifted me off my feet. I tried to move forward a bit, but in vain.
As we finally reached the last flight of steps, our front door blew out. Pieces of glass flew everywhere. Had we been one step up, a three-foot-long tree branch would have stabbed us.
By the time I reached the closet, the tornado had been over us for about a minute. Jimmy pushed me down to the closet floor, but he couldn’t get inside himself because of the wind. I grasped Jimmy’s arm as the tornado sucked the door open—we never did get it fully shut—and tried to bring Jimmy with it. My knees and head were full of glass, but in that moment, I felt no pain. If I had let go, Jimmy would have flown right out the back of the house and into the bay.
All of a sudden, Jimmy lifted off his feet like people in tornadoes do in the movies. I thought he was gone. And then everything stopped. He landed on his feet. In those first quiet moments, I couldn’t believe it was over.
The tornado lasted 4 minutes, but to us, it felt like a life time. Of the houses left standing, ours suffered the most damage. Amazingly, none of us were severely injured.
27. Why didn’t the couple realize the coming of the tornado?
A. There was so signs. B. They didn’t pay attention to the weather.
C. They were too busy to take notice of it. D. We got a wrong alert about it from TV.
28. Facing the disaster, how was the couple’s reaction?
A. Indifferent B. Excited C. Fearful D. Calm
29. Which turned out to be the greatest difficulty for them in escaping from the disaster?
A.Their house was too high.
B. It was at night and the power went out.
C. The wind with the tornado was so strong that it lifted them up for several times.
D. The couple was too scared to move fast.
30. What can we learn form the passage?
A. The author was so severely injured that she felt no pain.
B. The couple loved each other deeply and the husband put his wife first.
C. They missed being stabbed by the long tree branch as they moved fast.
D. The author felt regretful for their damaged house.
How to Enjoy Life As a Teen
The "best years of your life"? Maybe not, but you can learn to make the most of your high school days.
31 Whether it's having a computer, having friends, having a good supply of food, or simply being born in this world. Remember that the point of life is for you to enjoy it. And these are the last few years you will be able to enjoy yourself without having to worry about the responsibility of an adult. But when you do become one, you'll learn to love that responsibility and never want to go back.
Choose your friends wisely. 32 In fact, many of the "friends" you have when you are hot are not true friends. Try to have friends that like you for who you are, not just because you are wearing a certain brand of shoes or something like that.
Be sociable. Participating in clubs, activities, and sports increases your chances of meeting new friends. 33 Participating gives you something to do instead of sitting bored at home and wallowing in self-pity.
Pursue interests you enjoy. Video games, for example, are good if you're the type who can get into that kind of thing. 34 You can either volunteer to gain useful skills for college challenges or learn something in the creative field like painting or dance. 35
A. This is the time to start developing and uncovering passions that might otherwise lie dormant.
B. While you only need 4 or 5 close friends, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to meet new people.
C. Learn to appreciate small things.
D. Enjoy the pleasure before it’s too late.
E. You don’t have to be popular and have a gazillion friends to be happy.
F. Therefore, be happy, and life will reward you.
G. You should also find a hobby that is meaningful or practical.

Surfing the net when you should be finishing a work report, changing clothes when you have a train to catch, or perhaps even lying in bed when you’ve promised yourself you’ll work out. Sound familiar? You aren’t alone. We all procrastinate (拖延) sometimes, especially when it comes to things we aren’t really fond of.
A study showed that we spend about 218 minutes procrastinating every day, which amounts to 55 days of lost time each year. We might not think these figures particularly worthy of worry, but when we look at the overall impact of procrastination on our lives, it’s a different story. Not only does this cost financial loss, it also affects peace of mind. In general, people who continually put things off are unhappier, as well as being less wealthy and healthy.
So why do we do it? “When we avoid taking action, we’re really avoiding pain,” explains psychiatrist (精神病学家) Phil Stutz. For most of us, pain avoidance isn’t limited to one situation. It applies to almost anything that’s painful. Most of us try our best never to leave a comfort zone. That’s why we sacrifice something much more valuable: time. “Our time on earth is limited,” Stutz adds. “Every moment is an opportunity we’ll never have again. Procrastinators act as if they have all the time in the world. But deep down, they know they’re wasting parts of their life. The trouble is, most of them don’t know how to free themselves.”
One way he says we rid procrastination is by overcoming the pain of avoidance using daily visualization (想象). “Picture the pain you’re avoiding as a black cloud in front of you,” Stutz says. “Notice how you’re tired of the ways this pain has held you back in life, and tell yourself that you’re determined to conquer it. Then it’s time to get through the cloud and to the other side — where you’re free.” Experts insist: procrastinators can change their behavior, it takes a lot of self-work but in the end, it’s worth the effort. And start today, not tomorrow. (351)

本文主要介绍了翘二郎腿对身体可能造成的不良影响,从文章的末段“So next time you sit down, try to get yourself in the habit of sitting with both of your feet on the floor.” 故选A。
从第三段最后一句“While the feeling of discomfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage.”
Zhang’s research…is set to be presented at the Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems in May可推断为正确。故选D。
26-30 AADCB
http://www.wikihow.com/Enjoy-Life-As-a-Teen
下文中有having a computer, having friends, having a good supply of food, being born in this world等下义词照应C选项中的上义词small things.
因此32题选项应该是对the friends you have when you are hot持否定态度。E选项中popular照应下文中hot一词,且对于be popular的问题及have a gazillion friends to be happy的问题持否定态度,与下文一致。
选项F由于其以therefore开头,且话题与全文话题一致enjoy life as a teen,长得像全文的总结句,有一定干扰性。
36-40 ABABD 41-45 ABCAD 46-50 ABDBD 51-55 AABCD

A
A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure.

Zhang’s research…is set to be presented at the Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems in May可推断为正确。

http://www.wikihow.com/Enjoy-Life-As-a-Teen
下文中有having a computer, having friends, having a good supply of food, being born in this world等下义词照应C选项中的上义词small things.
因此32题选项应该是对the friends you have when you are hot持否定态度。E选项中popular照应下文中hot一词,且对于be popular的问题及have a gazillion friends to be happy的问题持否定态度,与下文一致。
选项F由于其以therefore开头,且话题与全文话题一致enjoy life as a teen,长得像全文的总结句,有一定干扰性。
