In my wrld f death this apple was an expressin f life, f lve.
She came at the same time t the spt the next day. And again she brught me an apple flying it ver the fence with that same sweet smile. Fr seven mnths we met like this. Smetimes we exchanged a few wrds, smetimes just an apple. But ne day I culd barely speak as I said what must be said: “Dn' t bring me an apple tmrrw. With my heart punding s ludly, I lked directly at Rma and asked, “And did he tell yu nt t bring an apple tmrrw because he was sent t anther camp?”
“Hw n earth culd yu pssibly knw that?”
I tk her hands in mine and answered, “Because I was that by, Rma.”
Fr many mments, there was nly silence. We culd nt take ur eyes frm each ther, behind which, as the veils f time lifted, we recgnized the sul. Finally, I said, “Rma, I dn' t ever want t be separated frm yu again. Nw I am free, and I want t be tgether with yu frever. Dear, will yu marry me?” I saw the same twinkle in her eyes that I used t see as Rma said yes.

22.(8分) Bth hneybees and ants are scial insects that live in grups called clnies. They survive by means f their cllective intelligence. Their decisin-making pwer is distributed thrughut the grup; that is, n ne ant r bee makes decisins fr the grup. Instead, they wrk tgether. As Debrah M. Grdn, a bilgist f Stanfrd University, says, “Ants aren’t smart. Ant clnies are.” The same is true fr bee clnies. Althugh bees and ants are quite different physically, they have a lt in cmmn in terms f their behavir. Specifically, hneybees and ants have similar rles within the clny, bth have cmmunicatin systems, and bth have the capacity f learning.
Ants cmmunicate by using chemicals called phermnes, which can alert thers t danger r t a fd surce. Fr example, when wrker ants find a prmising surce, they let the rest f clny knw hw t find it by leaving a trail f phermnes n the way back t the clny. The ther ants pick up the message using their sense f smell. Bees, n the ther hand, use mvement t cmmunicate with each ther. Wrker bees send message t each ther by means f a “dance”. Different speeds and mvements send different messages. Fr example, when wrker bees called scuts g ut t find a new he fr the clny, they return and d a dance fr the ther wrker bees that indicates the lcatin f the new hme and hw suitable it is. The faster the scuts dance the better the new lcatin is.
Hneybees and ants are bth capable f learning. One Chinese study fund that bees can be trained t learn and remember a rute t a fd surce. The researchers als fund that bees can be taught t recgnize hidden bjects and use the cncepts f “sameness” and “difference” t accmplish certain tasks. Ants take this ne step further. Recent America research has shwn that ants nt nly have the ability t learn, but als can teach their fraging skills t ther yunger ants. They bserved that lder ants accmpany yung ants in search f fd and teach them the rute and hw t avid bstacles.
As we can see, the scial behavir f hneybees and ants is quite similar. Bth crdinate cmplex actins and accmplish crucial survival tasks by cperating in grups cnsisting f many individuals. Unintelligent as they may be as individuals, as grups they ften shw amazing brilliance as they g abut their everyday activities.

A.The distance t a neighbring clny.
B.The quality f a new clny lcatin.
C.The discvery f a new fd surce.
D.The directin t a ptential fd surce.
3、In paragraph 3, hw dcs the authr demnstrate the idea that Hneybees and ants are bth capable f learning?
A.By using statistics.B.By explaining reasn.
C.By presenting study findings.D.By stating pinins.
4、What des the underlined part “fraging skills” refer t in the third Paragraph?
A.The skills f cmmunicating.B.The skills f sacking fd.

23.(8分)Like mst f yu, I’ve grwn up with science putting it int my head that eating Chlesterl (胆固醇) is bad fr us. My dctr has sclded me repeatedly fr liking high-chlesterl snacks. But nw, after 40 years f giving chlesterl such a rap, the scientific experts are reprtedly ready t reverse (颠倒) themselves. Suddenly, we’re ging t be tld that high-chlesterl fds are nt bad fr us after all.
This isn’t the first time science reverses what it believes t be true, nr will it be the last. T ptimists, the fluidity f science’s cnclusins is a gd thing - prve that science is always crrecting itself in light f the very latest infrmatin. But a mdem sciety that lks increasingly t science fr nt just what t eat, but als hw t behave and what t think? Hw can we trust an authrity that ften changes its mind in extreme ways?
Science’s typical way isn’t limited t matters f nutritin. G ahead and check it ut fr yurself by lking at the qualifiers used in the vast majrity f hnestly written science news articles. Yu’ll see that the stries are laced with weak wrds and phrases such as: sme, in certain circumstances, prbably, perhaps, may, culd, tends, suggests, indicates, accrding t, is linked t, plays a rle in. The grave prblem I’ve bserved ver the years is that t ften science and its reprters create the impressin f certainty when nne is prved. The chlesterl stry is but ne example f that make-believe certainty.
Hw much shuld we be cncerned abut this? A great deal, I believe, given science’s great and grwing influence n ur lives. At the very least, each f us needs t -understand that the scientific wrldview — impressive as it surely is — is built n shifting sands. As Einstein nce bserved, “N amunt f experimentatin can ever prve me right; a single experiment can prve me wrng.”
1、The underlined part “giving chlesterl such a rap” (in Para. 1) means the authr .

C.are a gd thing in a way D.are the majr way t imprve science
3、Accrding t the text, which f the fllwing is NOT the wrd cmmnly used in scientific articles?
A.Likely B.Surely
C.Seems D.Appears
4、What can be cncluded frm the passage?
A.Science can blind us.
B.Science need be pen t dubt.
C.Science is nt as imprtant as thught.
D.Science shuld be built n experiments.
24.(8分)St Mritz, the shwiest f Switzerland’s Alpine resrts (旅游胜地), is n rdinary ski twn. It’s respnsible fr winter turism as we knw it tday. It was a small band f English hlidaymakers that changed Switzerland frever. In 1864 a bet tk place between htelier Jhannes Badrutt and the vacatiners n a damp September evening in St Mritz. As they sat arund the fire at the Engadiner Kulm Htel, cncerned abut returning t the fggy Lndn winter, the Swiss manager saw a glden pprtunity.
“Yu hliday here in summer,” he challenged them ver a bttle f red wine. “Why nt enjy the muntains year-rund? Winter is s pleasant that n fine days yu can even walk withut a jacket.” Attracted by the prmise f clean skies against a backdrp f twering peaks, the Englishmen were pleased t accept it; up until then, St Mritz had been a mdest hiking destinatin in July and August. But if Badrutt’s prmise prved false, the htelier wuld pay fr their jurney and winter-lng stay. Hw culd they lse?
Cme mid-December, the grup f men returned t Switzerland. Twards the end f their week-lng jurney, sitting n a hrse-pulled sledge and wrapped head-t-te in furs, they went thrugh the 2,284m Julier Pass in sutheastern Switzerland. But by the time f their arrival in St Mritz, the skies had cleared, they were sweating abundantly, and Badrutt, jacketless and with his shirt sleeves rlled up, was there t greet them.
Of curse, Badrutt wn the bet. Wrd quickly spread thrughut Britain abut St Mritz’s distinctive climate—dry and sunny with a high degree f snw certainty. Year-rund turism landed the Alpine twn f St Mritz.
That Badrutt almst single-handedly marketed this undevelped winter wnderland is a little unbelievable. The first turist ffice in Switzerland had been established in the same year as the bet. Other resrts like the nes in Davs and Grindelwald were als ppping up then. The stry f St Mritz is, in sme ways, als a tale f scial transfrmatin. 4、What des the authr think f the success f St Mritz?
A.Davs and Grindelwald helped a lt.
B.He wes it cmpletely t the bet.
C.Badrutt played an imprtant rle.
D.The success was made by turist ffice.

Pttery fragments, brken scrll strage jars and their lids—even nelithic flint(新石器时代燧石) tls and arrwheads—littered the cave’s entrance and farther in, there appeared t be a cavein(塌陷). After a bit f wrk f digging, the team made a mnumental find: an unbrken strage jar with a scrll. It was rushed t Hebrew University's cnservatin lab, where it was unflded in a prtected envirnment. It had n writing; it was placed in the jar t prepare it fr writing.
But the effrt was nt in vain. Scientists sn discvered the cavein was intentinal and it hid a tunnel abut 1620 feet in length. At sme pint hidden in the tunnel, the team fund a few brken strage jars with the lid. They als fund the clth cverings and the leather strap that bund the scrlls the jars nce held. The team thught rbbers came int the tunnel, tk the scrlls, r even pened the scrlls and left everything arund, the textiles, the pttery.
Over the last few years, researchers have believed Dead Sea Scrll fragments made their way nt the antique black market, leading authrities and researchers t start the task f surveying all the caves at Qumran in the Judean desert.
This was likely just the first in a series f Dead Sea Scrll discveries and therefre the team have hundreds f caves and many years t g, making a big prject, a huge peratin but they are very upbeat because after 60 years peple still find new caves with materials that cast new light n the scrlls.
Accrding t a news release frm the Hebrew University f Jerusalem, the diggings are part f “Operatin Scrll” a jint effrt by the university, the Israel Antiquities Authrity, the Israel Nature and Parks Authrity and the Civil Administratin f Judea and Samaria.
