In Octber 2024, my vercnfidence in my wn strength left me with a lwer back injury. Days later, the pain began radiating dwn the sciatic nerve in my left leg. Standing was fine, but sitting was trture (折磨). In rder t sleep, I had t slide a pillw underneath my legs t keep the dwnward-pulsing shckwaves at bay.
In mid-December, I saw a pain medicine specialist. Once a week, I went in, gt a sft-tissue massage and did well-supervised exercises and stretches. My pain wasn’t gne, but it was finally under cntrl.
Meanwhile, I’ve als been seeing a new physi frm Flk Health, the first AI clinic in the UK. When I first pened Flk, I was greeted by Kirsty, my therapist (理疗师). In ur first sessin, Kirsty asked me questins abut my pain, and I respnded by clicking multiple-chice ptins. Rather than being a live vide call, this interactin is a series f pre-recrded vides stitched (拼接) tgether by AI based n my answers. She asked me t fllw her careful lead n the screen t decide the best curse f treatment. She gave me stretches and exercises t try fr the week ahead, with careful instructins nt t push t hard r d anything that feels uncmfrtable. Unlike my human physical therapists wh crrected my psture and tld me when I was ding smething wrng, Kirsty can’t see me.
As t these AI tls, Elizabeth Stuart, a prfessr, said, “They are n different frm ther healthcare interventins. But smetimes they are a black bx, changing under the hd in real time. We need t assess carefully hw well they wrk and wh they wrk fr. While we dn’t need t reinvent the wheel when it cmes t AI, we d need t recgnize these systems keep evlving. With sme AI tls, they are srt f self-adapting.”
My back felt better after my sessins with Flk, but the app likely isn’t fr me. I’m clumsy and uncrdinated and need smene watching my frm at all times — if nt, I’m likely t hurt myself further. That ability t watch patients and ffer feedback n psture culd be smething AI will enable in the future — but until then, I’ll be sticking with the humans.

Over the past few weeks, many peple in China have started raising “lbster” — and n, nt the muthwatering seafd. Chinese users have adpted this phrase t describe the prcess f setting up and training an AI agent called OpenClaw, which uses a red lbster as its lg.
Fr sme years, we have had generative AI mdels like ChatGPT. While they are useful, they passively wait fr prmpts (提示词) t respnd. Als, they can tell users what t d, but cannt perfrm the task fr them.
OpenClaw, develped by Austrian sftware engineer and entrepreneur Peter Steinberger, prmises t be “the AI that actually des things”, accrding t its website. It sends emails, manages calendars, bks flights, cntrls smart hme devices and mre.
What truly sets OpenClaw apart is its lng-term “memry”. As reprted by Cmputer Netwrk, the AI keeps data even after being clsed, enabling it t “remember” past cnversatins. Over time, it learns yur preferences, tracks yur prjects and sends yu practive (积极主动的) ntificatins.
Such practiveness is supprted by “heartbeat”, a built-in timer that is used regularly. As Claire V, chief technlgy fficer f US startup LaunchDarkly, explained n scial media platfrm X, OpenClaw’s “heartbeat” ccurs every 30 minutes and can be adjusted by the user. With each tick, the AI wakes up t check fr tasks that are ready t run. This enables the AI t cntinue wrking withut user interactin.
Hwever, OpenClaw’s abilities cme with serius risks. In February, researchers fund ver 40,000 instances f OpenClaw nline, with mre than 60 percent having prblems that culd allw hackers t gain cntrl, reprted CGTN. On March 8 and 10, the Chinese gvernment issued tw fficial alerts — the first-ever warnings specifically abut an agentic AI.
The risks are made wrse by Mltbk, a scial netwrk launched in January, where the AI agents share psts with each ther, and humans can nly bserve, reprted Frbes. “Althugh it gained attentin fr shwcasing AI-t-AI interactins, early findings revealed that it expsed entire databases,” Dr Shaanan Chney frm Australia’s University f Melburne tld Frbes.
      8. What can we learn abut generative AI mdels like ChatGPT frm the passage?
      A. They can d tasks actively withut prmpts.
      B. They have lng-term memry like OpenClaw.
      C. They wait fr prmpts t react inactively.
      D. They can cntrl smart hme devices autmatically.
      9. What makes OpenClaw different frm ther AI?
      A. It needs a brwser tab pen all the time.
      B. It has lng-term memry and can wrk practively.
      C. It nly prvides infrmatin but des nthing.
      D. It was develped by a Chinese engineer.
      10. What is the functin f OpenClaw’s “heartbeat”?
      A. It helps the AI remember users’ preferences frever.
      B. It allws AI agents t share psts with each ther.
      C. It prtects users frm hackers and security risks.
      D. It enables the AI t wake up t check tasks every half an hur.
      11. Why did Chinese gvernment issue fficial alerts abut OpenClaw?
      A. Because it may cntribute t severe safety threats.
      B. Because it is t expensive fr rdinary users.
      C. Because it cannt wrk well in chat apps.
      D. Because it has n lng-term memry.
      D
If just seeing smene take up tw parking spts makes yur bld bil, r yu lie in bed each night replaying in yur mind that smene tk credit fr yur hard wrk, yu knw hw difficult it is t let g f a grudge. Hlding a cmplaint can smehw bring a strange sense f satisfactin, as if yu’re prving that yu’ve been unfairly wrnged by thers.
Hwever, unreslved hurt can be emtinally tiring, and frgiveness, when it is safe and apprpriate, may help lsen sme f that stress. A new study shws that being a frgiving kind benefits bth yur bdy and mind. The researchers investigated “dispsitinal frgiveness” — a persn’s frgiving nature. Being high in it seems t give yu an edge n many frnts, including psychlgical well-being, purpse in life, relatinship satisfactin and hpe.
What happens in yur brain when yu get past a hurt? Brain imaging studies shw its pwerful and fast-acting effects: Letting g f an ffense activates pathways and parts f the brain that imprve resilience (恢复力) t adversity and scial bnds, accrding t a study review in Neurscience & Bibehaviral Reviews.
The gd news is that anyne can learn this vital skill — being frgiving. Hw? T begin with, understand that the real reasn yu hld nt hurt is that yu’re disappinted with hw smething turned ut. As Fred Luskin, directr f the Stanfrd Frgiveness Prjects, puts it, “I’d heard similar stries that amunted t. I had this picture f hw it was suppsed t g, and then this ther thing happened, and I culdn’t frgive that difference’. Frgiveness is abut accepting life’s imperfectins, making peace with the wrld telling yu ‘n’.”
Sme peple find it much harder t frgive thers, especially self-centered peple and thse with very reactive nervus systems that get fired up quickly. “Frgiveness ften unflds gradually, rather than all at nce,” Scientist Richard Cwden ntes. “It may help t think f it as a muscle that can be built with practice.”
      12. What des the underlined wrd “grudge” in paragraph 1 mean?
      A. A cruel punishment.B. A past mistake.
      C. A sense f relief.D. A feeling f anger.
      13. What effect des frgiveness have n the brain?
      A. It helps build the defense against life’s hardships.
      B. It reduces the activity f negative brain pathways.
      C. It slws dwn the reactin f the nervus system.
      D. It imprves the ability t make immediate decisin.
      14. What prevents peple frm frgiving accrding t Fred Luskin?
      A. Their refusal t admit their wn mistakes.
      B. Their discntent with the unmet expectatin.
      C. Their lack f trust in ther peple’s gd will.
      D. Their fear f suffering frm similar hurt again.
      15. What des Richard Cwden say abut frgiveness?
      A. It emerges quickly.B. It uses little energy.
      C. It can be trained gradually.D. It belngs t certain peple.

It was July, the final day f the schl year. My class f six-year-ld students was eagerly lking frward t their summer break. T make the day mre cheerful, I arranged fr sme ballns t be delivered, yet fr me, this vacatin was a mix f happiness and sadness. I had recently mved t this city and didn’t have enugh mney t take a flight hme t be with my father. He was lnging fr me deeply, since this was his first summer withut my cmpany.
As I turned ff the light befre leaving, I sptted the ballns by the windw.
Nt knwing what t d with them, I gathered the thirteen strings and put them in the backseat f my car. Their clrful clrs brightened my md, and thankfully, I n lnger felt s islated.
Since I was still unfamiliar with the city, I chse t take a drive and befre lng, I fund myself driving alng a winding rad where the trees verhead cvered each ther. The branches reminded me f tw friends reaching ut t welcme ne anther. Sn, a nursing hme came int view. The place had an air f being frgtten, and I nticed a man sitting by himself in the shadw utside.
I suddenly felt an urge t drive in. Hwever, the ballns in my backseat were blcking my sight — at that mment, I realized hw t use them. I gt ut, tk hld f ne f the strings, waved at the man, and he smiled back. He intrduced himself as Daniel, and he was rughly the same age as my father. As I gave him the balln, he beamed and said, “Thanks. This adds a bit f brightness t my life.” As he fastened it t his chair, he appeared mre jyful than when I first saw him. S I replied with a smile, “Yu’re welcme, Daniel. Maybe we’ll meet again ne day.’
T my surprise, he respnded, “Maybe, but it’s nt likely. Peple are always invited t visit, but they seldm shw up.” What he said frced me t pull an ld chair clser t him. We began chatting abut ur lives, and the sund f his vice cnstantly brught my father t mind. I had imagined that having a cnversatin with a stranger wuld be dull. But it wasn’t; instead, it was enlightening — I had been feeling lnely, Daniel had felt the same, and s had the ther residents f the nursing hme.
