lived experiences fthe peple her rganizatin serves, Kirkman set ff n a 10-stp tur acrss the cuntry, meeting with ther shelters and nnprfits — and sleeping n the street fr 10 nights in a rw.
Alng her stps, Kirkman met with ther nnprfits wrking t specifically supprt wmen facing hmelessness. She started at her hme base f Ryal Leamingtn Spa n February 1 f this year and then traveled t Cventry, Birmingham, Bristl, Plymuth, Suthamptn, Lndn,

Wmen experiencing hmelessness face unique barriers that ften g verlked.
Accrding t The Esther Prject, 65% f Lndners in temprary accmmdatin are wmen. But many d nt feel safe with thse accmmdatins and thse wh cannt access them als face the dangers f street-sleeping, as well, leaving them with nwhere t g.
Kirkman’s jurney was meant t truly understand these realities. In additin t raising
awareness, the 10-night sleeput has raised ver £14,000 (abut $17,400) fr The Esther Prject. It will g twards pening a new “ne stp shp wmen’s center” in Warwickshire.

Vaccines (疫苗) may sn make their first film appearance. Led by expert Maria A Cryle, researchers have develped a thin sheet that preserves vaccines fr lng perids withut
refrigeratin. This means the carefully cled small bttles nw used t ship vaccines culd ptentially be replaced by lightweight films that can be mailed in an envelpe and stred n a shelf.
Inspired by amber’s ability t preserve the DNA f insects, Cryle’s labratry set ut t create their wn versin f the substance. The vaccine-cntaining film is administered by
muth-sweet news fr many wh dislike needles.
The film is tailred t suit each specific vaccine candidate and prvide a prtective cating. “We’ve learned ver time that the key t really stabilizing whatever the film hlds is t have it
intermixed with all the cmpnents,” Cryle says, adding that the prcess is quick and uses
affrdable, standard equipment. “We really wanted t cme up with smething that wuld be transferable t develping cuntries.”
Immunizatin (免疫) prgrams depend much n keeping vaccines cld (2℃-8℃) as they are transprted, smetimes ver thusands f kilmeters t far-away lcatins. Delivery can be difficult and cstly, and transprt disruptins can cause the vaccines t be ineffective.
But this new prduct can stre live viruses, bacteria and antibdies fr several mnths at
20℃. A paper published in Science Advance shws that a flu vaccine suspended in their film
cmpares favrably with a traditinal flu sht. “The study demnstrates early prf f cncept fr an exciting platfrm fr vaccine prduct develpment,” says Lisa Rhan, a pharmaclgist, wh was nt invlved in the study. She als ntes that each vaccine type wuld need a custm
      frmulatin (配方) fr future develpment.
Finding partners t mass-prduce fr clinical trials is the researchers’ mst pressing
prblem, Cryle says. They are als explring packaging methds t keep their films stable up t 40℃ .
Size is a majr advantage — a letter-sized sheet f the film can carry mre than 500 dses (剂) f vaccine, abut 1/900 the weight f the same amunt f traditinal dses. By making it
easier and cheaper t ship and preserve vaccines efficiently, the technlgy culd vastly imprve immunizatin rates, particularly in middle-t lw-incme cuntries.
8 .What can we learn abut the film?
A .It will replace vaccines. B .It can hld bi-prducts.
C .It cntains animal’s DNA. D .It cmes in different flavrs.
9 .What aspect f the film can we knw accrding t paragraph 3?
A .Likely advantages. B .Develpment schedule.
C .Primary cmpnent. D .Transprt requirements.
10 .Why des the authr qute Lisa Rhan?
A .T prve the study is favred widely. B .T advise persnalizing vaccines.
C .T stress the rles f a new platfrm. D .T shw the prduct is prmising.
11 .What will be the next urgent task fr Cryle’s team?
A .Reducing the shipping cst. B .Seeking ideal manufacturers.
C .Imprving the film’s capacity. D .Advertising the film wrldwide.

D yu ever hear abut smebdy that’s just the “best” persn, always kind, always
charitable, always thughtful and think t yurself that, actually, yu might nt necessarily like them? Yu’re nt alne. In fact, it’s a psychlgical phenmenn knwn as D-gder
      Dergatin (贬低).
Thse wh are mrally gd shuld, in thery, be liked by everybdy but they might
smetimes anny sme f yu. Plus, aren’t they always s self-satisfied abut it? Well, maybe
nt. The prblem might be yu. When peple are gd like this, yu may think they can make yu feel judged, as if yu are suppsed t live up t wh they are.
Fr example, ne study fund that when a grup f nn-vegetarian (非素食主义者) cllege students were asked t list three wrds they assciated with vegetarians, nearly half listed at least ne negative wrd, such as annying, prud, r crazy. While this is striking enugh in itself, what is even mre shcking abut this is that thse wh had a negative view f vegetarians ften
expected that vegetarians wuld view them negatively.
Psychlgy Tday explained: Because ding well (r ding gd) can mean facing
negative reactins frm sme peple, peple are smetimes unwilling t share their
accmplishments r highlight their strengths, and might even play dumb (装傻) t avid making thers feel threatened r uncmfrtable. While sme degree f mdesty may be scially
apprpriate, lasting self-deprecatin can be persnally cstly, especially when it leads t selfdefeating behavirs such as intentinal failure.
Ultimately, instead f fighting these ptential judgements, t be a best persn, yu accept that they are bund t happen. There’s n pint in trying t avid any and all judgements — it’s simply impssible. Fr better r wrse, assessing ther peple is a natural part f scial
interactin. S, anticipate that thers will judge yu in their wn way. A simple mental reminder that thers will have assessments f yu — even sme that may be inaccurate — can help yu let incming criticism rll ff yur back.
12 .Why des the best persn smetimes anny sme peple?
A .The best persn is always unsciable.
B .They feel stressed by the best persn.
C .They are lked dwn n by the best persn.
D .The best persn is just pretending t be best.
13 .What is the authr’s attitude twards the best peple cnstantly playing dumb?
      A .Negative. B .Supprtive C .Cnfused. D .Indifferent.
14 .What des the authr advise the best peple t d?
A .Resist ptential criticism. B .Try their best t seek universal apprval.
C .Vice their wn pinins. D .Prepare themselves fr thers’ pinins.
15 .What can be the best title fr the text?
A .Why d Yu Anny the Best Peple Uncnsciusly?
B .The Psychlgy f Why Yu Are Often Misunderstd
C .The Truth f Why Yu Secretly Dislike the Best Peple
D .Are Yu Feeling Judged by Thse S-called Best Peple?
      第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
      根据短文内容,从选项中选出填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Spark Yur Creativity With a Nap
Many famus creative thinkers like Thmas Edisn and Salvadr Dali were knwn t take regular daytime naps. Recent scientific studies suggest this wasn’t just cincidence — there
appears t be a real cnnectin between brief naps and enhanced creativity. Researchers have
discvered that a specific sleep stage called nn-rapid-eye-mvement (the N1 state), which ccurs just as we begin t fall asleep, may be particularly imprtant fr generating innvative ideas.
A study cnducted at the Paris Brain Institute prvides strng evidence fr this cnnectin. 16 . After a 20-minute rest perid where sme participants napped, thse wh reached
the N1 sleep state were nearly three times mre likely t slve challenging math prblems cmpared t thse wh stayed awake.
17 . The famus chemist August Kekulé reprtedly discvered the ring structure f benzene (苯) after visualizing a snake biting its wn tail during this half-awake state. Similarly, many artists and inventrs thrughut histry have credited their nap-time visins with
      breakthrugh ideas.
Scientists call this prcess “targeted dream incubatin (孵化).” ____18____. When peple fcus n a specific prblem as they begin t nap, their brains cntinue wrking n it during this special sleep stage, ften making unexpected cnnectins that lead t creative slutins.
Yu can try this creative napping technique yurself: Befre napping, take a few mments t write dwn an issue r creative challenge facing yu. 19 Then, when the timer ges ff, stand up, grab the nte and pen, and write dwn whatever jumps int yur mind.
20 . Just like any skill, learning t harness the creative pwer f naps takes
practice. Researchers suggest trying this methd several times befre expecting significant results.
A .Set an alarm fr 15-20 minutes t avid sleeping t deeply.
B .Sme peple believe lnger naps are always mre beneficial.
C .The brain remains partially active during this early sleep phase.
D .Regular practice can imprve yur ability t generate creative slutins.
E .Participants were given difficult math prblems they culdn’t initially slve.
F .Histrical recrds shw many scientific discveries came frm such mments.
G .It invlves cnsciusly thinking abut a certain challenge befre yu fall asleep.
