The first time I visited Germany with my friend, I was very yung and hadn’t been t many places. Instantly we arrived, I had an incredible thught. “I knw all abut this area, especially the fd and the language. I knw all abut the Black
Frest.” I said t his German family. “Hw d yu knw abut this?” they asked, in disbelief.
That was the first time it had hit me hw much I knew abut the rest fthe
wrld, and hw prepared I was fr it, just frm grwing up in New Yrk City — that I had been everywhere befre I’d ever actually gne anywhere.
I grew up in the Chelsea Prjects. Mst kids there were first generatin
Americans with immigrant parents wh were still speaking Chinese r Prtuguese, r just name a language, and they were speaking it. Yu ate every imaginable fd frm the rest fthe wrld there. Yu were expsed t all different kinds f traditins.
It wasn’t just that. The whle city was a classrm. All ver twn, yu learned stuff yu didn’t even knw yu were learning. Yu didn’t have t be rich t learn it, either. My mm was a teacher and she made sure I gt invlved in everything New Yrk had t ffer peple wh didn’t have any mney.
We went t all the museums, which were free back then. We’d ride the bus t Lincln Center and watched dancers dancing there. Or we’d take the train t Cney Island. Thse trips are amng my fndest memries.
New Yrk City shaped wh I am. It’s where I learned that I culd pursue
whatever I lved, but that I culdn’t be a slacker (偷懒的人). The city is everything yu’ve heard it is. It’s crazy, it’s awesme, it’s magnificent. It’s a real live wire, hard t leave.

We live in a time f grwing anxiety and fear. As AI becmes mre capable and widespread in daily rutines, anxieties surrunding it are likely t intensify. Just like any frm f anxiety, it’s imprtant t acknwledge yur feelings and take steps t
avid becming verwhelmed.
Psychlgists suggest several specific strategies fr managing anxiety abut generative AI. These include: trying ut AI tls t figure ut hw and where they can be useful; taking breaks frm technlgy t restre and recharge; building new skills; and pursuing activities that activate human creativity and imaginatin.
I wuld like t expand n the third strategy — building new skills. In a recent study, my clleagues and I investigated the skills required t succeed in the future f wrk. We reviewed six studies and identified 10 key skills: cperatin,
cmmunicatin, creativity and innvatin, critical thinking, crss-cultural ability, decisin-making, judgment, willingness t learn, prblem-slving, and scial
intelligence cgnitin (认知). Imprtantly, all these skills are “human” skills,
meaning nt digital r technlgical. In their cntext, perhaps ne f the mst
effective respnses t anxiety abut AI is fcusing n develping ur wn human abilities.
While researchers argue that the destructive ptential f AI in the wrkplace
invlves ne f three channels: replacing aspects f human wrk; cmplementing (补充) r enhancing human wrkers and their skills; and creating new tasks fr wrkers, the secnd might be the best path frward. Rather than viewing generative AI nly as
a threat, it can be seen as a tl that enhances human abilities.
Explring hw ur wn cgnitive and creative capacities culd be enhanced thrugh “cperative intelligence” with generative AI might be a useful cure-all t being anxius abut it.
8 .What phenmenn des the authr pint ut in paragraph 1?
A .AI tls replace traditinal jbs. B .AI prgress causes emtinal stress.
C .AI systems require cmplex rutines. D .AI research faces grwing resistance.

A.Digital skills ensure future success. B.Human capacities remain highly valuable.
C.New technlgy changes research methds.D .Scial intelligence imprves wrk efficiency.
10 .What des the underlined wrd “cure-all” in the last paragraph mean?
A .Slutin. B .Material. C .Principle. D .Instrument.
11 .What is the authr’s purpse in writing the text?
A .T analyze AI’s rapid develpment. B .T illustrate peple’s anxiety ver AI.
C .T ffer us advice t meet AI challenges. D .T infrm us f the threats presented by AI.

Chatan One, the wrld’s first cmmercial pwer generatr that uses
supercritical carbn dixide (sCO2), has begun peratins in China. This achievement breaks a century-ld traditin f using steam fr pwer generatin, marking a majr imprvement in efficiency.
Over the years, the steam engine’s efficiency was further imprved thrugh
different designs and fuels; hwever, the medium fr ding wrk remained the same — steam. Scientists seeking further imprvements nticed that a significant part f energy is wasted in generating steam t drive turbines (涡轮机). Water needs t be biled first and underg a state change, which leads t energy lss.
T maximize efficiency, researchers have been lking fr a better medium t replace steam. They fund supercritical carbn dixide (sCO2) in CO2. Unlike water,
it can be easily pressurized at relatively lw temperatures and remains in a
supercritical state thrughut the entire prcess. With n state change lss, it ffers a mre flexible and pwerful alternative fr mdern energy systems.
In this supercritical state, it exhibits the prperties f bth a liquid and a gas — a unique cmbinatin that allws it t mve a turbine with less resistance while
prviding greater “push” pwer. The pwer generatin prcess begins by pressurizing it int this state, after which it passes thrugh a heat exchange r t absrb heat,
reaching temperatures f 400-600℃ . It then enters a turbine and expands rapidly, transfrming thermal energy (热能) int mechanical energy t generate electricity.
The success f the Chatan One will likely start a new era in pwer generatin. By using CO2 as a medium and bypassing the need t transfrm water int steam, this technlgy ffers a cleaner and mre efficient path fr the future. As this
breakthrugh becmes mre widespread, it may eventually replace the traditinal
steam-based systems that have dminated the industry since the Industrial Revlutin.
12 .What des Chatan One’s breakthrugh suggest?
A .A new energy has been discvered. B .The use f traditinal fuels has ended
C .Pwer generatin efficiency is redefined. D .Steam-based systems are envirnmentally safe.
13 .What is the authr’s attitude tward the traditinal steam-based system?
A .Pessimistic. B .Objective. C .Appreciative. D .Dubtful.
14 .What des paragraph 4 mainly talk abut Chatan One?
A .The wrking principle. B .The technical partnership.
C .The physical cmpnents. D .The histrical backgrund.
15 .What can we expect f the Chatan One technlgy in the future?
A.It will speed up the Industrial Revlutin. B.It culd take the place f traditinal fuels.
C.It may transfrm water int a cleaner medium. D.It might lead t a change in the pwer industry.
