Researchers frm China’s Natinal Center fr Neurlgical Disrders and ther medical rganizatins fllwed 29,000 peple aged at least 60 years fr up t 10 years. Frty-nine percent f the participants were wmen.
At the beginning f the study in 2009, the researchers tested the participants memry
functin with the Auditry Verbal Learning Test(AVLT 听觉词语学习测验). They were als
tested fr the APOE gene, the mst cmmn gene linked with Alzheimer’s. Arund 20 percent f the participants were carriers fthe risk gene. The participants received tests in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2019. In the fllw-ups, six healthy lifestyle factrs were analyzed: a healthy diet, regular
physical exercise, active scial cntact, active cgnitive activity, nn-smking and never drinking alchl.
The results shwed that the AVLT scres cntinuusly decreased ver the 10 years. But the highest test scres were in the favrable grup and the lwest in the grup where peple usually
have an unhealthy lifestyle. The participants with favrable and average lifestyles, even when they were APOE carriers, had a slwer rate f memry lss than the participants with unhealthy
lifestyles.
