Sectin A的听力文本是三段电话对话，是连续的对话情境。三段对话的发起人都是Peter，他想邀请同学和他一起去体育公园打排球，并询问对方正在干什么，自然呈现了现在进行时态的语法结构。为了体现对话的真实性和目标语法结构的丰富性，针对Peter的邀请，教材设计了三个不同的反馈语境：太忙所以去不了，不在家而未能联系上，因为电影枯燥而答应邀请。
三段对话的语境不同，因而使用了不同的语言结构。第一个对话中，Teng Fei因为比较忙而拒绝了Peter的邀请，所以他使用比较委婉客气的表达“I'd lve t, but I'm wrking n smething imprtant.”。而Peter则回答“Never mind then! Maybe next time?”，对话愉快地结束。第二个对话中，Adam不在家，Adam的妈妈接了电话并问Peter是否需要Adam回电话，她使用的语言是“Can I take a message?”，而Peter礼貌地提出请求“Culd yu ask him t call me back, please?”，对话愉快地结束。第三个对话中，Binbin正在家里看一部很无趣的电影，感到无聊，所以高兴地接受了Peter的邀请，而Peter马上与他约定了打球的时间(“Let's meet at the sprts park at ten, OK?”)。
除此之外，这三段对话都充分体现了电话对话的语言特征，比如：Teng Fei、Mrs Clark和Binbin在接电话时都用了“Hell?”，相当于中文对话中的“喂?”。Peter在电话中介绍自己时使用了“It'sPeter.”，而不是“I'm Peter”。Peter想找Adam接电话时对Adam的妈妈说“May I speak t Adam.please?”，"May I speak t ..…?”是请对方转接电话时比较礼貌的表达，意思是“我可以和……说话吗?”。
