Is the end f hmewrk near? As new pwerful artificial intelligence tls like ChatGPT take the Internet by strm, teachers cncerned abut AIdriven cheating are questining their teaching and assessment methds.
ChatGPT, the mst pwerful AI language mdel ever develped by the cmpany OpenAI, remembers the thread f yur dialgue, using previus questins and answers t infrm its next respnses. Deriving its answers frm huge vlumes f infrmatin n the Internet, it is finetuned using bth supervised and reinfrcement learning. It is capable f generating naturalsunding text n demand in just a few secnds. The quality f the cpy it prduces is sufficient t impress teachers in secndary and higher educatin, and even researchers.
The use f AI tls in cpywriting has sparked an utcry arund the wrld. In the United States, public schls in New Yrk and Seattle have decided t blck ChatGPT frm their devices and WiFi netwrks. In France, the prestigius Sciences P university in Paris has als just annunced a strict ban n its use. But experts questin whether bans like these are really effective. On the ne hand, students will always be able t access tls like ChatGPT thrugh ther means than schl devices. On the ther hand, sme questin the relevance f blcking access t a digital tl whse use is likely t grw in the prfessinal wrld in the cming years.
Amélie Crdier, a lecturer in artificial intelligence at University f Lyn, ntes that students haven't waited fr ChatGPT t try t escape the chre f hmewrk—whether by phtcpying the library encyclpedia, cpypasting cntent frm Wikipedia r enlisting their parents' help. “What is ultimately very imprtant in the learning prcess is nt s much the subject n which yu learn, but the methdlgy that yu learn t develp arund that subject,” Crdier said.

It's a knwn fact that emissins frm gaspwered vehicles are harming the atmsphere. In respnse t this, Prsche, the German sprts car brand, began a pilt prgramme f prducing efuels in Chile in 2022. Currently, efuels are used nly in sprts cars at Prsche's perfrmance and experience centres.
Efuels are made by passing electricity thrugh water. The electricity separates the hydrgen and xygen mlecules. The hydrgen is then mixed with CO2 t prduce liquid efuels. Efuels can be prduced using many renewable energy surces, such as slar energy and wind. They fllw the chemical structure f gasline, making it pssible fr gaspwered cars t run n efuels with little t n mdificatin.
Efuels are prepnderant(占优势的) ver gas. Efuels can help ease the change away frm gaspwered cars, fr thse wh may nt be able t affrd electric vehicles(EVs). They will als help t reduce waste by keeping gaspwered cars in service. Additinally, the use f efuels will nt require new infrastructure t be built unlike EVs.
Existing gas statins and cars will be able t stay in use, which is already a big saving. Hwever, pinins differ n whether efuels are truly ecfriendly. Efuels are widely said t be nearly carbn neutral, althugh an independent study indicates that efuels release the same amunt f CO2 as gasline. Since efuels are still being develped and tested, their true impacts are still unknwn.
Efuels are very expensive t prduce, partly due t energy lss during prductin. Unfrtunately, nly abut 50% f the energy used in prducing efuels is actually transfrmed int fuels. Additinally, nly abut 16% f the energy used in efuel prductin is actually used t pwer the car.
Even thugh the use f efuels will keep existing infrastructure, it will still take time and mney t include it in everyday life. Currently the price f efuels is nearly duble the cst f regular fuels. Thugh pinin is divided n efuels, with mre testing and develpment, they have been cnsidered as anther way t help fight against the climate crisis by many researchers.
( ) 8. What can we learn abut efuels?
      A. They were tested in Germany at first.
      B. They are applicable t gaspwered cars.
      C. They are prduced relying n slar energy.
      D. They need t be mixed with CO2 in actual use.
      ( ) 9. What's Paragraph 3 mainly abut?
      A. Efuels are greater than gas. B. Efuels are rich in gas.
      C. Efuels are dependent n gas. D. Efuels are equal t gas.
( )10. What d the figures in Paragraph 5 mainly indicate?
      A. EVs have enjyed much ppularity.
      B. The cst f efuels will g dwn gradually.
      C. There are many difficulties in advertising efuels.
      D. The efficiency f efuels is lwer in pwering cars.
( )11. What is the authr's attitude twards efuels?
      A. Psitive. B. Scared. C. Objective. D. Dubtful.

A traditinal Chinese medicine has been shwn t be effective at reducing cmplicatins(并发症) fllwing a heart attack after a largescale, clinical trial. The medicine, knwn as tngxinlu, is made f extracts derived frm seven herbs and varius animals. The cmpund, whse name means “t pen the netwrk f the heart”, has lng been used as a traditinal Chinese treatment fr patients wh have had heart attacks and/r strkes(中风).Based n prmising results in cellular(细胞的) and animal mdels, the State Fd and Drug Administratin f China apprved its use fr the treatment f strke and angina pectris—a heart cnditin characterized by reccurring chest pain—in 1996.
The latest study, which has been published in JAMA, represents ne f the first times that a traditinal Chinese medicine has been tested in a largescale, Westernstyle clinical trial.
The authrs f the study—wh include researchers frm several Chinese universities and hspitals, in cllabratin with experts frm the University f Texas Suthwestern Medical Center—fund that tngxinlu reduced the risk f heart attacks(knwn as mycardial infarctins), deaths and ther majr cardivascular cmplicatins fr at least a year after a first heart attack.
Matthew Sayblt, a cardilgist with the Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shre University Medical Center wh was nt invlved in the latest study, tld Newsweek that he fund the latest research “cmpelling” after reviewing the paper. “I am nt aware f any ther large, wellrun trials like this studying traditinal Chinese medicine. This is a rarely run type f study, and I cngratulate the authrs fr their wrk and publicatin in such a prestigius medical jurnal,” Sayblt said. The study invlved 3,777 patients at 124 clinical centers in China wh had suffered the mst severe frm f heart attack—knwn as STsegment elevatin mycardial infarctin, r STEMI.
Sayblt said he als bserved sme weaknesses in the way the study was cnducted, ne f which was that the participants were entirely Chinese citizens and predminantly male. “Thus the findings may nt be generalizable thrughut the wrld r t wmen,” he said. “Furthermre, the patients were less frequently—cmpared t the United States, fr example—treated with traditinal prven medicine after their mycardial infarctins. Therefre, the effect f the Chinese medicine may have been enlarged, by the lack f patient expsure t prven therapies.”
Further research will be needed t address these matters, and the benefits shwn in this study wuld need t be cpied in ther ppulatins befre the treatment culd get apprved by the U.S. Fd and Drug Administratin.
( )12. Why did the Chinese authrity apprve the use f tngxinlu?
      A. Because it is made f the essence frm seven herbs and animals.
      B. Because it has already been used in traditinal Chinese medicine.
      C. Because it has been published in Westernstyle jurnals and magazines.
      D. Because it has had effective results in treating patients with heart attacks and strkes.
( )13. What was the limitatin f the study?
      A. The authrs have nly wrked with ne university.
      B. The research subjects are mainly Chinese male.
      C. The American patients used the unprved medicine.
      D. The expert Matthew Sayblt did nt participate in the study.
( )14. What is Sayblt's attitude tward the study?
      A. Objective. B. Optimistic. C. Cncerned. D. Dubtful.
( )15. What is the last paragraph mainly abut?
      A. Imprvements f the study. B. Weaknesses f the study.
      C. Results f the study. D. Benefits f the study.

      第二节(满分25分)
      阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was my very first trip t Africa. We were driving alng a track that skirted the suthern bank f the Chbe River, when my friend suddenly nticed smething up ahead—a large shape jammed between a cuple f big trees, right beside the rad. We edged the car clser and, t ur surprise, fund urselves lking at a yung calf snuggled(依偎) up against a sizeable elephant(mst prbably its mther).
Our dilemma nw was this: Was it OK t just drive slwly past the pair f elephants n that narrw track? Or wuld that cause the mther t becme upset and charge, in which case we shuld either wait fr them t mve n r turn the car arund? A bit unnerved by the clse encunter, we chse t head back the way we'd cme.
In the fllwing days, I had a number f cnversatins with natinal park staff and fellw travellers abut what t d when yu suddenly cme acrss an elephant while driving in the African wilds.
Smetimes peple tld me it wuld be OK t slwly drive past the mther and calf, because the wild animals f Chbe have becme pretty used t humans in cars. Elephants seldm pse a threat t us. S there's n need t adpt an attitude f permanent nearpanic—calm decisiveness is yur true ally(助手) in such situatins.
But then smetimes I was tld t switch ff the car and wait until the elephant had departed the scene. The idea was that the rumble(隆隆声) f an autmtive engine culd be interpreted by the animal as a kind f challenge. Keeping silent wuld reassure the elephant that yu weren't ging t cause any truble, and eventually it wuld g n its merry way. OK, that als sunded reasnable enugh.
A week later, my friend and I were driving by a river, watching elephants meet n the water fr a drink, and were driving back t ur ldge(度假小屋) when we fund ur rute blcked by a yung male elephant. As surprised as we were, the elephant planted his feet in the dirt and seemingly prepared t fight against ur car.
