D篇
Are kids getting t much praise? T much praise may be ding kids mre harm than gd.
A cver stry in Schlastic Instructr magazine asks whether kids tday are ver-praised. The cncern is that while trying t build up kids’ cnfidence, parents are paying little attentin t kids’ real gals and achievements. In a recent study, eighth graders in Krea and the United States were asked whether they were gd at math. Amng the American students, 39 percent said they were excellent at math, cmpared t just 6 percent f the Krean eighth graders. But the reality was smewhat different. The Krean kids scred far better than the ver-cnfident American students.
The disadvantage f t much praise is that kids may start t fcus n the reward rather than what they are learning. Wrse, when a student fails, whse cnfidence cmes frm a blind sense f achievement rather than his r her actual abilities, the result can be devastating This desn’t mean we shuldn’t praise ur kids r that teachers shuldn’t try t build up their students’ self-cnfidence. But self-cnfidence shuld be the result f gd grades and real achievements, nt empty praise frm thers.
Last mnth, Cgnitive Daily reprted that parents and teachers shuld be specific rather than general when they ffer praise. An example f general praise is telling a child, “Yu’re smart.” Specific praise wuld be t say, “Yu did a gd jb n reading.” r “Yu did great n yur math test.” Kids wh receive general praise abut their abilities are mre likely t shw “helpless” behavir when they meet with prblems with learning, cmpared with kids wh receive specific praise abut their achievement n a task. The reasn: a child wh knws she’s a smart girl feels defeated (挫败的) if she has truble reading a sentence. But a child wh has been tld she is a gd reader is mre likely t have cnfidence in that specific ability and wrk a little harder t deal with a mre difficult bk.
62. What can we learn frm the study f the eighth graders in Paragraph 2?
A. American students are ver-praised.B. Over-cnfident students may achieve less.
C. Krean students are much smarter.D. Mst students are nt interested in math.
63. Accrding t Paragraph 3, kids’ self-cnfidence shuld cme frm_________.
A. teachers’ lve and supprtB. what they get frm parents
C. a blind sense f achievementD. what they are able t d well
64. Which f the fllwing best explains “specific” underlined in Paragraph 4?
A. Exact.B. Careful.C. Scientific.D. Prfessinal.
65. What will kids getting general praise d in the face f prblems with learning?
A Ask thers fr advice.B. Prbably give up easily.
C. Wrk them ut alne.D. Wrk harder than befre.
66. In which part f a newspaper wuld yu mst prbably read the text?
A. Travel.B. Business.C. Educatin.D. Energy.

C. a blind sense f achievementD. what they are able t d well
64 Which f the fllwing best explains “specific” underlined in Paragraph 4?
A. Exact.B. Careful.C. Scientific.D. Prfessinal.
65. What will kids getting general praise d in the face f prblems with learning?
A. Ask thers fr advice.B. Prbably give up easily.
C. Wrk them ut alne.D. Wrk harder than befre.
66. In which part f a newspaper wuld yu mst prbably read the text?
A. Travel.B. Business.C. Educatin.D. Energy.

根据“Specific praise wuld be t say, ‘Yu did a gd jb n reading.’ r ‘Yu did great n yur math test.’” 故选A。
根据“Kids wh receive general praise abut their abilities are mre likely t shw ‘helpless’ behavir when they meet with prblems with learning”以及“The reasn: a child wh knws she’s a smart girl feels defeated (挫败的) if she has truble reading a sentence.”
