    In the textbk, the Writing sectin belngs t the part f “Develping Ideas” and it serves t help students’ reinfrce their learning frm different perspectives s as t fster the develpment f their lgical and critical thinking skills. The summary writing in Unit 6 is a new type f writing that mst students have never encuntered. Althugh it is nt included in the Cllege Entrance Examinatin, it’s still necessary fr students t master the skills.
    B1U6 fcuses n nature-- the gifts that we receive frm nature and the utilizatin f natural resurces. The passage in U6 Writing als falls int the abve range, with highlights n the herbal and fruit teas in Britain. S, autmatically the teaching aims shuld pssess the emtinal functin f helping students t appreciate the beauty f tea and discern the difference between Chinese and English tea cultures.

    Recall the cncept “Man is an integral part f nature (天人合一)” that is taught in Lngji Rice Terraces s as t bring ut the Writing tpic that will be elabrate in the next sectin.
    Read & Analyze
    Apply the deductin skills t guess the main idea f the passage frm pictures
    Gain an understanding f the article structure
    Activity 1: Scan and chse the best tpic fr the passage. (several mins t scan and think)
    Activity 2: Read the whle passage and underline the tpic sentence f each paragraph.
    The teacher leads students t think abut hw t lcate the tpic sentences
    Students have 2.5 mins t read and finish the exercise
    Activity 3: Summarize the main idea f each paragraph int 1-2 wrds. Chse the wrds frm tpic sentences. Make ntes under the headings. (p71 Task 5)

    Activity 4: Students answer “What shuld a gd summary be like?” They can refer t the ‘Learning t learn' sectin n p71 in the textbk.
    Students have 2 mins t think abut their answer and say it ludly
    The teacher leads the students t extract tips frm ‘Learning t learn'
    Then, the exercises f each tip are given t students
    Activity 5: Practice “Hw t recnstruct/rewrite a sentence”
    Students have 1 min t think abut their answer and say it ludly
    The teacher shws several methds t recnstruct the sentence thrugh examples, fllwed by exercises.
    Activity 6: Take ntes f the linking wrds and phrases
    The teacher shws a list f linking wrds and phrases in different categries
    Ask the students t add mre t the wrd list if they can
    Small quiz: The teacher first shw an example f hw t finish the questin. The students identify the relatins f the rest f the tw pairs f sentences, then, list the linking wrds that can be used t cnnect each tw sentences.

    Develp students’ independent learning capability
    Strengthen the writing techniques, as well as wrds and grammar pints that they have studied in class
    Activity 7: Write a summary f textbk p71.
    The teacher highlights the aspects that the students need t pay attentin t when writing.
    Students have 10 mins t finish their writing. Meanwhile, the screen will shw the page f linking verbs fr students’ reference.
    After students cmplete their essays, they are asked t uplad their paragraph t nline-grammar-checking websites fr revisin. (3 mins)
