Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Review
First make conversations about “where questions”. Ask the class “Where is my English book?” And they will answer“ It’s on the desk.” After that we can ask“Do you have an English book? D o you have a baseball?”and so on. In this way, we can begin our new lesson like that.
Step 2 Presentation
T: Boys and girls, now winter is coming, it’s very cold. So what can you do to be warm? Ask students maybe first answer in Chinese., and their answers can lead them to learn the new words.
Show some pictures to students to teach the new words on the screen. Ask questions like this:
T: What’s this ?
S: It’s a basketball.
T: Do you have a basketball?
S: Yes, I do./ No, I don’t.
Take some balls to students and ask some students to say about them. Practice these new words again and again until students can name each item fluently.
Step 3 1a &1b
T: Now let’s look at Page 25 together. Can you see some balls or bats in the picture? OK , I will give you two minutes to finish 1a, match the words with the things in the picture, and then ask some students to give me the answer.
When students do the practice, walk around the class to check and give some help if necessary. Then check the answers with the whole class.
T: Just now you find these things, so let’s do some listening practice to improve your memory.
Play the recording and ask students to complete the exercise on page 25,1b. Check the answers later.
Show the sentence structures on the screen, and ask them to repeat after the teacher. And then give them some balls to make a conversations with their classmates, and later ask some to perform theirs.
Step 4 2a & 2b
Pay attention to the four pictures in 2a. Say, Now you will listen to four conversations, and you listen to the tape carefully and put the pictures in the right order.
Then read the instructions in 2b to students, ask them to listen again and match the pictures in 2a with the balls.Check the answers. After that, we can play ask students to turn to the tapescripts to see and listen again.
Step 4 Ask and answer
According to the conversations the students listened from 2a just now, let them ask and answer questions with their partners. Just now I gave some balls to some of the students, they can use these real things to make conversations.
For example: T: Does Chen Chenhui have a tennis ball?/
S: No, she doesn’t.
Step 5 Exercise &Summary
Show some pictures about balls on the screen, point one after one and ask students to say the names of them.
T:This class we learned some words about some sports things, and we also learned how to talk about the ownership. After class, I hope you can make some more conversations like this, maybe about your sports things or about your study things.
Step 6 Homework
- Go over the new words in this class.
- Using the target language ask and answer questions, then write a short dialogue.
