The neighbour who lived next door wanted a cat and said he would keep Sugar. Sugar would not have to move or ride in a car. Everyone thought that would make her happy.
The Woods family said goodbye to Sugar. They would miss their cat, but Sugar would have a comfortable home.

(2021春·江苏盐城·七年级校考期末)Today, people want to keep healthy through sports and exercise. But some of them have some wrong ideas about it.

    The first marathon(马拉松)I ever saw
was years ago with my grandma.
We stood out on the Boston streets
and marveled at the number of feet.
The runners were a rumbling herd(兽群),
except for a few-like the swiftest birds
who shot out alone to run their races
    with determination(决心)carved into their faces.
    Motorboats speeding over gray water,
    these runners would inspire(激励)anyone’s daughter.
That was the day I made the decision-
the bounce in my steps clarified my vision.
I went home that day and laced up my shoes

    (2021春·江苏南京·七年级统考期末)Pet dogs—what do you think?
    May 21 Dear Editor,

Dogs are working animals, not pets. They belong out on the farm, rounding up sheep and cattle. In the city they are just a smelly nuisance(讨厌的东西). They leave their mess all over the streets, and some of them never stop barking.
Where are their owners? Why are these supposedly wonderful friends left alone to pine and dig up the garden, or to bark at anyone who dares to walk past “their” house?
If we must have dogs in the city, they need to be trained properly. Apart from the barkers, there are the bounders(莽汉). These dreadful animals rush up and almost knock you flat before you have time to decide if they are greeting you or attacking you.
    Faithfully,
    Sarah Williston
    May 28 Dear Editor,

Yes, Sarah Williston (May 21), we do give dogs a good life, but they pay us back generously, with love and intelligence and good humour.
Dogs are wonderful friends, loyal and trustworthy. They will play safely with the kids, or keep a house-bound person company all day long. Dogs are increasingly being used in nursing homes and hospitals as a welcoming and calming presence, and in some places, teachers even have a pet dog in the classroom. It is true that training a dog takes considerable time and effort, but it is time well-spent. Taking responsibility for a canine(犬科的) pet builds character, as well as offering a lot of pleasure.
    Sincerely,
    John Bonavista
59.Which sentence best shows Sarah’s attitude(态度) to dogs?
A.Dogs mustn’t live in cities. B.Dogs should work on the farm.
C.People shouldn’t keep animals as pets. D.People had better not keep dogs as pets.

(2021春·江苏南京·七年级统考期末)There was a table set out under a tree in front of the house, and the March Hare and the Hatter were having tea at it. A Dormouse was sitting between them, fast asleep, and the other two were resting their arms on it, and talking over its head. “Very uncomfortable for the Dormouse,” thought Alice; “only, as it’s asleep, I think it doesn’t mind.”
The table was a large one, but the three were all crowded together at one corner of it. “No room! No room!” they cried out when they saw Alice coming, “There’s plenty of room!” said Alice angrily, and she sat down in a large arm-chair at one end of the table.

Alice looked all round the table, but there was nothing on it but tea.” I don’t see any wine,” she said.

“Do you mean that you think you can find out the answer to it?” said the March Hare.
    “Exactly so,” said Alice.
“Then you should say what you mean,” the March Hare went on.
“I do,” Alice quickly replied; “at least—at least I mean what I say—that’s the same thing, you know.”

(2021春·江苏南京·七年级校考期末)It’s more and more often for us to see wild animals enter cities. This gives people in cities more chances to learn about wildlife but also leads to conflicts (冲突) between people and wildlife.
In Berlin, pigs sometimes come into the city to look for food. They eat flowers and plants in parks and gardens. Some people like them and give them food and water. Other people don’t like them. They want the government and the police to stop pigs entering the city.

They even go into houses and take food from cupboards and fridges! They are big and strong animals, so they can scare people. But the city can be bad for baboons too. I was very sad. I cried and cried. Mum was very worried about me.
She hugged me lots on her knee.
I visited Kenya when I was four.
I was surprised to hear a lion roar.

It opened its mouth and looked at me.
Maybe it wanted to eat me for tea!
I started school when I was four.
I was scared when I walked in the door.
