“The delivery man has your food and is on his way.” This is a piece of information you may get after you order food online. We know that delivery men bring your food to you. Do you believe that self-driving cars-cars without drivers will bring food to you in the near future? That sounds interesting, doesn’t it?
Now Baidu and Meituan are working together to use self-driving technology (技术) to deliver food. These companies use the self-driving cars to send group orders. For example, when a company orders food for people working there, a self-driving car will bring all of their orders to the company.
Online food ordering is becoming popular all around China, even in small villages. Till now, about 300 million users use different apps to order food online. Some researchers (研究人员) say that using self-driving cars will be a revolution in the food delivery. They will make a great difference in the future.
Some people think there must be some problems about using self-driving cars to deliver food. For example, self-driving cars can drive well on flat (平坦的) roads, but can they drive well when the road is not flat? People must work out such problems before they can use self-driving cars.

Some people think kindness (善行) is something completely selfless (无私的) that we do out of love and care, while others believe it is just a clever way to become more popular and get something good. However, a study shows that being kind to others can actually make us happy in different ways. In fact, even just thinking about our kindness in the past may make our mood (心情) better. But why and how does kindness make us so happy? Let’s learn about it.
²Contagious (有感染力的) smiling
Being kind can make someone smile and if you see that smile for yourself, it might be enjoyable. A study says that seeing someone else show a feeling naturally makes the same parts of our brains start to work, as if we had the same feeling. For example, you may find yourself laughing just because someone else is laughing.
²Righting a wrong
Sadness can also be contagious. When someone else feels bad, it could also make us feel down. This is quite true for close friends and family. Doing a kind act (行为) can make someone sad feel better. This can also make us feel good because we are putting something right.
²___________________
Being kind opens up many different ways to start a social connection with someone. Kind acts, like buying someone a thoughtful present or even just a coffee, build up friendships, and that in itself can better our mood. Volunteering (志愿服务) also opens up new groups of people to connect with, both other volunteers and the people you are helping.
²Kindness comes back around
A psychology study shows that being kind to others may give in return. Someone might remember that you helped them out last time, and they’ll be more likely to help you in the future. Also, one person being kind can make others in the group kind, too. For example, if you make cakes for your co-workers, it will catch on, so someone does it each month. That is more days you’re getting cakes than giving them.
The story doesn’t end there. Being kind may better your mood, but a study has also shown that being in a good mood can make you kind. This makes it a wonderful two-way street.
49.The study in Paragraph 1 shows ________.
A.everyone is completely selfless B.kindness can make us feel happy
C.love and care are helpful in our life D.we can use kindness to become rich
50.________ is an example of a kind act.

51.Which of the following can be the best title for Paragraph 4?
A.Making connections B.Opening up a group
C.Helping other people D.Building up friendships
52.What can we learn from the passage?
A.One can get success in a good mood. B.We do kind acts to get them in return.
C.Kindness makes us and others feel good. D.It’s difficult to help other people be kind.
Agatha Christie is queen of the detective(侦探)story. She was interested in writing at a very young age and gave up learning music to writing. Many people have fallen in love with her creations-Hercule Poirot, a famous Belgian detective and Miss Marple, an old lady who is also an amateur(业余的)detective. Agatha walked in the quiet street by herself. Suddenly from the shadow of a dark building a tall man with a sharp knife in his right hand ran out at her. “Good morning, lady,” the man said in a low voice, “I don’t think you wish to die here!”
“What do you want?” Agatha asked.
“Your earrings(耳环). Take them off!”
Agatha suddenly had a bright idea. She tried to cover her necklace with the collar(衣领)of her coat while she used the other hand to take off both of her earrings and then she quickly threw them on the ground.
“Take them and let me go,” she said. The robber saw that the girl didn’t care for the earrings at all, only trying to protect the necklace. He thought the necklace would cost more, so he said, “Give me your necklace.” “Oh, sir. It doesn’t cost much. Please let me keep it.”
“Stop talking rubbish. Don’t try to fool(愚弄)me! Quick!”
With shaky hands, Agatha took off her necklace. As soon as the robber went away, she picked up her earrings and ran as fast as she could to one of her friends. In fact, the earrings cost 480 pounds and the necklace the robber had taken away cost only six pounds.

What inspires (鼓舞) you to work hard? Having your own goals is important. Good sleep also helps. But as it turns out, having a plant on your desk can improve (提升、改进) your work as well.
Mike Robinson, an engineer from Canada, owns his own small company. One day, his wife suggested picking out some plants and putting them on his workers’ desks.

Then, they put the sign on the plant they chose and took it back to their desk. Soon Robinson found that his workers were working much harder and getting along much better than before. It could because his workers formed (形成) “friendships” with their plants. They would take good care of them, and in turn, take more care with their work. Plants can help to create a relaxed atmosphere (氛围) as well.
