Step 1　Warm-up

T: Hello, boys and girls! Look at the following pictures. Do you know the places of interest in these pictures? Have you been there?

S1: I know the second picture; it is in Xi’an and is called the Terra Cotta Warriors, or Bing Ma Yong in Chinese.

Step 2　Presentation

1. First, read the new words with partners, then show themselves. Other students listen and correct if there are some mistakes.

2. Brainstorm 

Finish the quick quiz by spelling the new words according to the Chinese meaning or saying out the Chinese meaning, then make up a short story or a dialogue with the new words. Believe in the students, they can do it well.

For example: Traveling is exciting. We can see the beautiful scenery along the way. And we can learn about the special culture. It’s usually thousands of kilometres away. In order to arrive there early, we should leave home early.

(2)【辨析】exciting与excited

2. How far is it from Beijing to Xi’an？从北京到西安有多远？

how far 意为“(距离) 多远”，通常用来询问两地间的距离。

—How far is it from your home to school?你家离学校有多远？

—It’s about five kilometres.大约5千米。

3.Arrive in Beijing and take a train to Xi’an 到达北京，乘坐火车去西安

  arrive 不及物动词，意为“到达”。表示“到达某地”时，用“arrive in+大地点”或“arrive at+小地点”。

  When will you arrive in London?你什么时候到伦敦？

  He will arrive at the airport soon.他很快就会到机场。
