    This is the sixth period of this unit. The part is made up of three parts. The first part is language knowledge detection, including two activities. Activity 1 is to fill in the blanks. This passage briefly describes the essential qualities of a scientist in simple language. Activity 2 is to fill in the blanks and focus on the detection of the grammatical structure of this unit. What do scientists do? The second part is the evaluation of unit content and self-reflection. The third part is the project activity, the theme of the activity is “think outside the box”. In this part, students will work together to complete the task, and comprehensively check their mastery of the content of this unit.

    The scientist’s main task is to discover how things work in the universe. But few scientists have placed themselves under the. So even though the____ scientific method, which mainly includes hypotheses, data collection, and statistical analysis, is written down, the method by which scientists come to ______ conclusions is hard to identify. Two of the essential qualities a scientist needs to have seem to be curiosity and creativity. People who are curious usually have a mixture of seemingly desires: They are looking for originality and yet they also want everything in its proper place. To settle the conflict between statistics and , scientists often have to be creative, and think outside the box---approach the problem from different directions. They must have a vivid imagination and a strong intuition in order for new to be made. It echoes something the __ Carl Sagan once said. He believes that every child “starts out as a scientist” and every child is . with the "sense of wonder and awe”.

    Activity 2 (PPT15-19)
    Task1 Fill in each blank with a word or impression that introduces a predicative clause.
    Science is simply you can do. And doing science makes you a scientist! So, what do scientists do? Actually, what matters is not only they observe in the world around them and what questions they ask, but also they use evidence or data to answer the questions. They identify useful data and take new measurements. Some of the key issues that scientists face are calculations they do and they analyse their data to draw conclusions about the questions they ask. The final issue, which many believe to be the most important, is they need to communicate their results. This is they want everyone to benefit from their work! It seems ____ science is all around us. You see, by doing science, scientists get a better understanding of the world around them and share that understanding with the whole world.

    Task 2 Find out and analyse all the predicative clauses.

    Project: Think outside the box(PPT 21-27)
    Most great scientists have the ability to see the world in ways that other people do not, and to come up with new ideas the other people have never thought of. In many cases, this has caused other people to think that they are crazy at first. However, that thinking ability is important to their creative process.
    In this project, you are going to create an unusual invention.
    Task 1 Group work
    Look at the pictures and discuss what they are.

    Task 2 Brainstorm:
    What is the giant shark-fin fastened around the goldfish used for?

    Choose one invention from the four pictures, and brainstorm as many reasons as you can to explain how and why the inventions is useful. Divide the tasks within your groups. Then present your product to your class and pay attention to the standards.

    It seems that和It seems as if...
    It seems that …表示“看起来……”。
    强调根据一定的事实所得出的一种接近于实际情况的判断,可以说表示事实。
    可以转换成“名词或代词 + seem +动词不定式”句型,其意不变,如果动词不定式为to be + 形容词时,to be往往省略。
    It seems as if... 也表示“看起来……,似乎……”。
    使用该句型表示可能:
    若从句表示的是很可能实现的事情,从句谓语用陈述语气;若从句表示的是与事实相反的假设或实现的可能性很小的事情时,则从句谓语要用虚拟语气。
