Sentences(a) and(b) bth cntain a clause defining a nun in the sentence. Sentences(c) and(d)are cnstructed with a pair f simple sentences,with ne defining a nun in the ther sentence in each pair.
Because there is a clser link and cnnectin between the item and the clause defining it in sentences(a)and(b). It will als make the passage clearer,andcreate an emphatic effect n the bjects being defined.

定语从句 (3) ——“介词 + 关系代词”引导的定语从句1 “ 介词 + 关系代词 ” 引导的定语从句(1)由“介词 + 关系代词”引导的定语从句主要用于正式文体,在非正式文体中通常将介词放至句末。 This is the man t whm I referred. 我指的就是这个人。This is the man(whm) I referred t. 我指的就是这个人。(2)关系副词 when,where,why 引导定语从句时,也可用“介词 +关系代(which/whm)”代替,其中的关系代词只能用 which 或whm,不可用 that 或 wh。先行词指物时用 which,先行词指人时用 whm。

(正式)=There the children had a garden t play in.(口语) 在那儿孩子们有个可以在里面玩耍的花园。【误区警示】(1)“名词 / 代词 / 数词 +f+ 关系代词”通常引导非限制性定语从句,在定语从句中一般作主语,表示所属关系,或者整体中的一部分。He has three sns,ne f whm is a dctr.他有三个儿子,其中一个是医生。 There are 50 students in my class,all f whm are hard-wrking. 我们班有 50 名学生,所有人学习都很刻苦。(2)在定语从句中,有些含介词的短语动词不可拆开使用(短语拆开后含义发生变化),如 lk after,lk fr,care fr,take care f,hear f 等。 She is the girl whm I am lking after. (after 不能提前)她就是我照顾的那个女孩儿。
(3)“介词 +which/whm”(= whse)在定语从句中作定语,修饰其后的名词。He has written a bk,the name f which I have frgtten. =He has written a bk,f which the name I have frgtten. =He has written a bk,whse name I have frgtten. 他写了一本书,书名我忘了。 This kind f bk is fr children whse native language(=the native language f whm) is Chinese. 这种书是给母语是汉语的儿童看的。
