When the Vietnam cnflict brke ut, the sn went t war. Unfrtunately he died in battle while rescuing anther sldier. The father was in deep srrw fr his nly sn.
Abut a mnth later, just befre Christmas, there was a knck at the dr. A yung man std at the dr with a large package in his hands. He said, “Sir, yu dn't knw me; I am the sldier fr whm yur sn gave his life. He saved many lives that day,and he was carrying me t safety when a bullet struck him in the heart and killed him instantly. He ften talked abut yu, and yur lve f art.” The yung man held ut this package. “I knw this isn't much. I'm nt a great artist, but I think yur sn wuld have wanted yu t have this. ”
The father pened the package. It was a picture f his sn, painted by the yung man. He stared in surprise at the way the sldier captured the persnality f his sn in the painting. The father was s drawn t the eyes that his wn eyes welled with tears. He thanked the yung man and ffered t pay fr the painting. “Oh, n sir,I culd never repay what yur sn did fr me. It's a gift. ”
The father hung the picture n the hall. Every time visitrs came t his hme, he tk them t see the prtrait f his sn befre he shwed them any f the ther great wrks he had cllected.
The man died a few mnths later. There was t be a great auctin (拍卖)f his art cllectin. Many influential peple gathered, excited ver seeing the great paintings and having the pprtunity t purchase ne fr their cllectin.
