    Part 1 Analysis of the teaching material.

    The Unit 8 is around the topic “The neighborhood, In this unit, the students are going to learn to ask for and give directions on the street. Also, the students are going to learn There be structure, Where questions and propositions of place. Asking way is usual in our daily life. I’ll set up a relaxing atmosphere to arouse the students’ interest and improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

    Part 2 Analysis of the students

        Our students are in Grade 7. They enjoy learning through co-operation in a relaxing atmosphere. The teacher should attach importance to communication with them, providing them the chances of using language.

    Part 3 Teaching guideline

    As we all know people learn a language in order to communicate. As a language teacher, I realize that it’s important to develop the students’ communication competence . It seems to me there are three points to improve it. First, lay special emphasis on developing listening, reading,speaking and writing skills.  Second, let the students understand the daily conversation better. Third, practice the spoken English more to improve the ability to communicate freely.

    Part 4  Teaching aims and demands

    1. knowledge objects

    1). To study the topic about neighborhood/ propositions.

    2). To study the new words: post office, police station, hotel, restaurant

    3). To study the There be structure, Where questions and propositions of place.

    2.Ability objects

    1).To develop the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
    2).To develop the students’ abilities of communication by learning the useful structures.

    3.Moral objects
    1). Enable the students to express themselves freely.

    2). Enable the students to co-operate among the team members.

    1. Teaching key points and difficulties

    Key points:

    Let the students master the new words and sentence patterns.

    Let the students know how to ask for and give directions.

    Difficult points:

    Let the students master the There be structure.

    Let students use the correct orientation prepositions to describe the location of the various community facilities

    Part 5 Teaching and learning methods

    It’s generally known that the aims of learning English in the junior middle school is to improve the students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities. According to the new course standard, make the students the real masters in class while the teacher himself acts as a director. So I will mainly use the communicative teaching method and situational teaching method.

    The students have the basic background of English. So I will mainly use the task-based learning method and cooperative learning method.

    Part 6   Teaching aids:

    Mainly use Multi-media computer.

    Part 7 Teaching  procedures.

    It is made up of 7 steps. They are warming up, presentation,  listening ,pair work ,  listening, practice, summary and homework. Now let’s go to the first step:

      Step1. warming up

    The purpose is to arouse the students’ interest of study. At the beginning of the class, we will greet each other, then a free talk, and move to the next step .

      Step2. Presentation

          1) Let the students look at some pictures.  Present the new words and expressions: post office, police station, hotel, restaurant

          2) Tell the students the main topic” neighborhood/ propositions” and lead in a new sentence structure(There be structure). First, Ill show a picture and ask the students with the sentence” Is there a post office/police station/hotel/restaurant near here?” Let them try to answer me correctly. Next, let the students ask questions and I give the answers.

          3) Lead to the “There be structure, Where questions and propositions of place.

    4) Work on 1a. The students read the activities and look at the pictures. Then finish 1 a.

    Purpose:This activity enables the students to practice the target language better. The PPT will catch the students attention and raise their interests.

    Step 3 Listening

    1.Play the recording and finish 1b.

    2.check the answers and let the students read after the recording and role play the listening material.

    Purpose: Listening and reading are the most basic ability in English

    learning. So let them listen carefully and read are very important.

     Step4. Pair work

    1. Ask the students to read the conversations in 1c with a partner. Then look at the pictures in 1a.

    2. Students make conversations about other person in the picture. Ask the students to practice the sentences with their partners, then, ask some volunteers to act it out.

    Purpose: To let the students grasp these words and the sentences easily and quickly.

    Step5. Practice

    1)  Where is it? Before 2a, have the students look at the pictures and describe the location of the pay phone. Review some of the prepositions of place on the board: next to,across from, between, in front of, behind--

    2)  The students read the sentences and look at the pictures. Then finish 2 a.

    Purpose: To give the students practice with the target language.

    Step 6. Listening

    1.Play the recording and finish  2b.

    2.Check the answers and let the students read after the recording and role play the listening material.

     Purpose: To give the students practice in listening for specific items in conversations.Improve the students’ listening and reading skills.

    Step7. Practice

    1) Making a dialogue(role-play). After learning new words and sentences, I’ll give the students a task to make dialogues, as follows:

    A:Is there a restaurant near your house?

    B:Yes, there is. Its on the center street.

    A:Where is the supermarket?    

    B:Its next to the library.

    A:Where are the payphones? 

              B:They are in front of the post office.

    Purpose: Bring the knowledge into real life can make the students have a better understanding of the topic about neighborhood/ propositions. The situational teaching method is used here to develop the students abilities of communication and co-operation. The students evaluate system is also used here.

    Summary and homework

    Ill make a summary with the students at the end of the class. It can help the students review what we have learned today.The homework is to make a new dialogue with the new words and sentences and share it in next class.

    Purpose: To check the knowledge  the students have learned in this lesson and also can train their abilities of writing.

    The analysis of blackboard design

          The last part is my blackboard design.These are the new words and phrases. These are key sentences. It shows the important points for students.
