Teaching prcedures
Step 1 Warming - up
I will help students review hw t describe a persn’s character. I will ask students the fllwing questins: Wh is yur best friends? What d yu think f him / her?
Step 2 Presenting
First, I will ask students t listen t the tape with bks clsed. After listening, ask them t answer “what are they talking abut?” (They’re talking abut a chairpersn.) Then I will present new wrds ‘students’ unin, ‘suitable’ ‘be able t’ like this: Our schl has a Students’ Unin, it needs a chairpersn. Wh will be suitable? The suitable chairpersn must be able t wrk fr all the students well.
Step 3 Practicing
1. I will help students understand the usage f ‘be able t’ by the fllwing questins:
① Is a child f 5 able t speak?
② Were yu able t swim at 6?
③ Will yu be able t pass the maths exam next time?
Then I will ask students t change “be able t” in abve three sentences int “can”.
2. I will ask students t read Part B after the tape. Then I will ask the fllwing questins:
① Wh des Millie think wuld be a gd chairpersn?
② Why des she think s?
③ Des Kitty agree with Millie? Why r why nt?
3. I will ask students t read the dialgue in rles. And then read tgether.
Step 4 Ding Activities
I will divide class int grups t talk abut:
① Wh wuld be a gd chairpersn, Peter, Suzy r David?
② Wh wuld be the mst suitable mnitr in ur class this term? Why?
Step 5 Presenting
I will tell my students that when we speak r write, we can use frmal r infrmal language. We use frmal language with ur teachers r strangers. Hwever, when we speak r write t ur friends, we can use in frmal language. Then I will lead students t g thrugh the table r Page 16.
Step 6 Practicing
1. I will ask students t read Kitty’s letter and check it t see if she is using frmal language.
2.I will ask students t wrk in pairs t underline parts f the letter which they believe are inapprpriate and explain the reasns.
Step 7 Cnslidatin Exercise
Translatin:
