    As they were waiting fr lunch, the thers talking happily, this gentleman was staring ut f the windw. He was cntent t be left ut f the cnversatin and allwed t take in the wnderful and impressive view f the waterfall.
    I watched him, and imagined hw much hrrr he had seen in the war. What lsses did he suffer, and hw many friends did he lse? What he had witnessed shuld have given him a gd reasn t lse faith in the wrld. Yet this tired sldier was smiling at the sky, at the sun and the raring f the waterfall. Smehw, after everything, the wrld was still beautiful t him.
    I walked ver t him and said, “Excuse me, sir. I'm srry t interrupt, but I saw yur hat, and I just wanted t say thank yu fr serving.”
    He lked up at me, surprised, and said prudly, “Yu're welcme, and thank yu, t.”
    I tld him I wuld g hme and tell my children abut this experience that I'd met him.

    I thught abut Mandarin Chinese, ne f the tp 10 languages mst imprtant fr ur future, accrding t the British Cuncil (thers include Spanish, Arabic, French, German, Prtuguese, Italian, Russian, Dutch and Japanese). But there were n classes fr yung children nearby. There were, hwever, lcal Spanish classes—the number ne language n the list. When she started t sing “Incy Wincy Spider” in Spanish and English—helped by a Spanish nursery wrker—ur decisin was made.
