    On a fggy day, I was listening t the radi n my drive when suddenly smething caught my eye ut the driver’s side windw. I turned t lk but it wasn’t clear because f the thick fg. Then I didn’t knw hw lng I was kncked ut.

    In Octber, Mediterranean fruit flies were discvered in an area f Ls Angeles. Califrnia is a big farming state, and this was serius news fr farmers. The Mediterranean fruit fly, ften knwn as the “Medfly”, is ne f the mst serius threats faced by farmers wrldwide. Once the Medfly makes its way int an area, it can be very hard t get rid f.
    The fies lay their eggs in ver 300 kinds f fruits and vegetables. When the eggs hatch, they turn int wrm-like larvae (幼虫) that can ruin these prducts. The prblem is that it can be hard t knw that the flies are there until it’ s t late. That’ s because the fruits and vegetables still lk nrmal even after the eggs are laid inside. S the damaged fruits and vegetables can be sent t ther places, allwing the Medflies t spread.
    Mediterranean fruit fies were first fund in Califrnia in 1975, but they really became a prblem in the 1980s. Luckily, Califrmia has develped a prgram t cntrl the Medflies.
