【解读】 congratulate/kən'ɡrætʃuleɪt/v.祝贺
常用短语:congratulate on sb. 向某人祝贺congratulate sb.on sth.为某事向某人祝贺
其名词为congratulation。
Congratulations!常用于口语中,表示祝贺某人取得成功、成绩等。
e.g. We congratulated him on having passed the exam.我们祝贺他通过了考试。

【解读】 be thirsty for 渴望;渴求
be thirsty for为固定短语,其后可跟名词、代词或动词-ing形式作宾语。其中thirsty作形容词,意为“渴望的”。
【拓展延伸】thirsty作形容词,还可意为“口渴的”。
e.g. He is thirsty for making greater progress.

【拓展】 set out还表示“着手……,开始……”的意思,常用于set out to do sth.结构,表示“着手做某事”。

They set out to perform the operation.他们开始动手术。
He is setting out to write a novel.他正着手写一本小说。
5.It is always hard to separate from those whom you have spent so much time with for the past three years.
【解读】whom引导的是定语从句,修饰先行词those,whom在定语从句中作spent的宾语。
separate/'sepərət/adj.单独的;分离的 /'sepəreɪt/v.分开;分离
separate…from…表示“将……与……分开”,指把原来连在一起或接近的部分分隔开来。
e.g. This is the man whom I talk with.这就是我和他谈话的那个人。
