    Unit 8  Detective stories Reading

    设计说明

    首先通过复习Murder in Sun Town引入Murder in West Town。通过图片和相关介绍呈现生词,导入新课,然后根据读前、读中、读后设计不同的任务来引导学生逐步理解课文,逐步通晓阅读的技巧,最后解决课文中的重要知识点,扫清障碍、更好地掌握课文。

    教学目标

    通过本课时的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    掌握单词和短语: confirm, victim, crime, somewhere, contact, wound, bleed, enemy, single, well-paid, charge, system, suppose, only, witness, report, breathe, heavily, reward, arrest, break into

    2.能力目标

    (1)能够读懂关于谋杀案的新闻报道;

    (2)能够从短文中提取有效信息。

    3.情感目标

    培养学生良好的个人品质,遵纪守法,做守法公民。

    重点难点

    重点:学习并掌握本课时的单词和短语,理解文章大意,掌握重要句型。

    难点:灵活使用短语和句型,如:break into, lead to, be wounded with, be guilty of, be charged with等。

    Step 1  Revision

    Talk about the murder case in Sun Town.

    Discussion: Who may be the murderer?

    Step 2  Presentation  

    1. Introduce another murder: Murder in West Town.

    Show the title and try to know some information according to the title.

    25-year-old Computer Engineer Murdered

    (1)What happened?

    (2) How old was the victim?

    (3)What did he do?

    Answers: (1) A murder happened.  (2) 25 years old.  (3) Computer engineer.

    2. Show some new words by giving them some introduction about a murder.

    Like this: When a crime happens, a detective often comes to the scene as soon

    as possible. He wants to know the victim, the suspect, and the murderer. He

    wants to know if the victim has some enemies, if there are some witnesses and

    if someone has contacted the police

    3. Read the new words, and do B1.  

    Answers: 1a  2c  3b   4c 

    Step 3  Reading

    Task 1  First readingScanning

    Read the article quickly and try to find out what, when, where, who, how and why as much as they can.  

    Task 2  Second reading

    Read the article again and try to get the structure of the passage.

    Part 1: Paragraph 1    Brief introduction to the crime.

    Part 2: Paragraphs 2-5  The police and the detective’s work on the crime.

    Part 3: Paragraph 6    Suspect of the crime.

    Part 4: Paragraph 7    Reward for some information.

    Task 3  Further readingRead the passage in detail.

    1. Read Paragraph 1 and answer the questions.

    (1) Where was the body of the victim found?

    (2) What was the victim?   

    (3) What was he last seen doing?

    (4) What was he going to do at that time?

    Answers: (1) In West Town.  (2) He was a computer engineer.  (3) He was last seen leaving his office in East Town.  (4) He was going to visit his parents.

    2. Read Paragraphs 2-5 and fill in the form.

    Answers:

    3. Read Paragraph 6 and answer the questions.

    (1) How many suspects are there?

    (2) What’s he like?

    Answers: (1) Only one.

    (2) He is short and thin.

    Think it over: Do you think the suspect is guilty?

    Ask them to make up new dialogues about that.

    A: I think the suspect may be the murderer.

    B: Why?

    4. Read Paragraph 7 and fill in the blanks.

    Step 4  Language points

    1. He was last seen leaving his office in East Town at about 7 p.m. yesterday.

    昨晚大约七点在东城有人最后一次看见他离开办公室。                 

    see sb. doing sth.意为“看见某人正在做某事”, 是主动语态。

    be seen doing sth. 意为“被看见正在做某事”,是被动语态。

    see sb. do sth. 意为“看见某人做某事”。

    be seen to do sth.意为“被看见做某事”。

    【注意】see, hear, find, watch, notice都有此用法。

    She was seen _________ (cry) when I passed by.

    Tina is often heard _________ (sing) in her room.

    Answers: crying; to sing

    2.The victim was wounded with a knife and bled to death as a result.

    受害者被用刀子致伤,失血过多而死。

    (1) wound动词,意为“使……受伤”,be wounded with…意为“被用……致伤”。

    A tiger was wounded with a gun by him. 他用枪伤了一只老虎。

    (2) bleed (bled, bled, bleeding) 动词,意为“流血”;blood名词,意为“血”。

    Look! Your nose is bleeding. 瞧!你的鼻子在流血。

    (3) bleed to death失血而死

    The soldier bled to death in the war. 那个士兵在战争中失血而死。

    【拓展】die (died, died, dying) 动词,意为“死亡”。

    dead形容词,意为“死的,去世的”;dying形容词,意为“垂死的,临终的”;death名词,意为“死亡”。

    He was charged with murdering the doctor. 他被指控谋杀了那位医生。

    (2) break into 闯入  break out 爆发

    break down 出故障  break in 打断

    4. A witness reported that he was breathing heavily and had blood on his shirt.

    一个目击证人报告说他呼吸急促,衬衫上还有血迹。

    breathebreathed, breathed, breathing)动词,意为“呼吸”。

    breath名词,意为“呼吸,一口气”。

    We can’t breathe without air. 没有空气我们就不能呼吸。

    It’s good for us to breathe deeply. 做深呼吸对我们有益。

    We ran so fast that we were out of breath. 我们跑得太快而喘不过气来。
