    Unit 8  Detective stories Grammar

    设计说明

    首先复习Reading中的谋杀案,通过Reading中含有定语从句的例句导入本课时的语法内容,即定语从句。通过呈现和讲解,让学生知晓什么是定语从句,如何来使用关系代词。通过一系列的练习,学生掌握定语从句的用法,学会用定语从句来表达自己的想法

    教学目标

    通过本课时的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    掌握单词短语:couple, fingerprint, probably, criminal, female, boss, commit, hurry, turn out, have nothing to do with, in a hurry

    2.能力目标

    (1)能够用关系代词来构成定语从句;

    (2)能够用限制性定语从句来表达思想,培养写作能力。

    3.情感目标

    培养学生良好的个人品质,遵纪守法。

    重点难点

    重点:学习生词和短语以及定语从句的用法。

    难点:定语从句。

    教学准备

    PPT 课件。

    教学过程

    Step 1  Revision

    1. Talk about the murder in West Town.

    2. Ask and answer. Lead in some sentences with attributive clauses in the murder case.

    (1)Who was murdered?

    (2)What is the detective asking people to do?

    (3)What kinds of clues are useful?

    Answers: (1) A computer engineer who was only 25 years old.

    (2) The detective is asking anyone who saw anything unusual to contact them.

    (3) The clues which will help solve the case are useful.

    Step 2  Grammar A  

    1. Show them a sentence. Tell them what is so called attribute. An adjective can be used as an attribute. And a sentence can be used as an attributive clause.

    They need some clues.

    They need some useful clues.

    They need the clues that/which can help solve the case.

                先行词 关系代词

    2. Give them some explanation about the attributive clauses.

    在复合句中,修饰某一名词或代词的从句叫定语从句。

    先行词:被定语从句修饰的词,常常是名词或代词。

    关系词:引导定语从句的词,在从句中代替先行词。

    3. Give them some other examples.

    We don’t know the man who/that was murdered.

    4. Show them some pictures and ask them to make sentences with attributive clauses.

    A: What kind of singers do you like?

    B: I like singers who/that

    5. Do the exercises on Page 112. Underline the defining relative clauses.

    Answers: (3) The police are now checking the scene for fingerprints and other clues that may help solve the case.

    (4) There was probably more than one person who had something to do with the murder.

    (5) A man who had blood on his shirt was seen running down Corn Street.

    Step 3  Grammar B

    1. Show them sentences and join them together with which, who, or that.

    (1) I can’t find the letter. The letter came this morning.

    (2) Please give me the book. The book is about travel.

    (3) This is the bag. My mother bought it last week.

    (4) The house is made of wood. Jack built the house.

    (5) The boy is called Tom. The boy broke the window.

    (6) Mr Li is the person. You talked with the person on the bus.

    Answers: (1) I can’t find the letter which/that came this morning.

    (2) Please give me the book which/that is about travel.

    (3) This is the bag which/that my mother bought last week.

    (4) The house which/that Jack built is made of wood.

    (5) The boy who/that broke the window is called Tom.

    (6) Mr Li is the person who/that you talked with on the bus.

    小结:①which/that指代物,代替先行词在从句中充当主语或宾语。

    关系代词在从句中作宾语时,可以省略, 作主语时,不能省略。

    who/that指代人,代替先行词在从句中作主语或宾语。

    Answers: (1) who/that killed the young man  (2) that is not allowed by the law  (3) that/which his boss had committed  (4) who/that was seen running down the street

    Step 4  Language points

    1. Well, it turned out that he had nothing to do with this case.

    嗯,结果是他与这个案件无关。

    (1) turn out 原来是,结果是

    It turns out that he is an old friend of my father’s.

    原来他是我爸爸的一位老朋友。

    He turns out to be a thief. 原来他是个小偷。

    (2) have nothing to do with ……无关

    The thin man had nothing to do with the murder.

    那个瘦男人与谋杀案无关。

    Did he have anything to do with the theft?

    他跟偷窃案有关吗?

    2. He was in a hurry to catch a bus! 他匆匆忙忙去赶公共汽车!

    in a hurry意为“急忙;赶快”。be in a hurry to do sth.意为“匆忙去做某事”。

    He eats some bread in a hurry. 他匆忙吃些面包。

    They are in a hurry to finish the task. 他们匆忙去完成任务。

    Step 5  Homework

    1. Revise Grammar and finish the exercises.

    2. Preview Integrated skills. Preview the words and read through the notes.
