Brn in 1874 in Ireland, Shackletn left schl at 16 and then jined the NW Shipping Cmpany, becming a master mariner in 1898.Befre captaining the ship Endurance, Shackletn accmpanied Rbert Sctt n the Discvery expeditin and als led the Nimrd expeditin, bth f which went t Antarctica. Althugh the Endurance expeditin was a failure, there was n lss f life, thanks t Shackletn's daring rescue missin. Shackletn died frm a heart attack in 1922 while n the Quest expeditin. He is celebrated as ne f the wrld's greatest explrers, and the Endurance expeditin stry is said by many t be the greatest rescue missin f all time.
