Narratr:
Fr mre than 2,000 years, the teachings f Cnfucius have been an imprtant part f Chinese in ancient China were expected t be well-educated in the philsphy and mral 2.values f Cnfucius. Even tday, Cnfucian thught is still greatly valued in 3.educatin and in sciety bth in China and in ther East Asian cuntries.
Questin:Why d yu think tday's students shuld study the teachings f Cnfucius?

The teachings f Cnfucius are all abut the mst 4.basic values f life. Cnfucius talks abut things like hw t becme a better persn, hw t get alng with ther peple, hw t live a happy, 5.meaningful ur students really understand these ideas, it culd change their life.

When yu read the writings f Cnfucius, yu will see a cnstantly recurring wrd, a Chinese character that 6.represents the heart f Cnfucian thught:the character ren. What is ren? If yu lk clsely at the written 7.character, yu can understand what it means. The left-hand element f the character represents a persn, a human being;the element n the right stands fr the number tw. The tw clements, when jined, indicate 8.relatinships between individuals, r with all f sciety.
Cnfucius taught that ren was the highest mral principle, the standard by which all ther mrals were 9.measured. In English, many different wrds have been used t translate ren: benevlence, lve, kindheartedness, 10.gdness,and humanity, t name a few.
Questin:Where des ren cme frm?
Prfessr Lei
Cnfucius said that this kind f lve, ren, begins with the lve t ne's wn parents. Cnfucius 11.believed that if smene cannt lve his wn parents, he als cannt lve ther peple. If we can shw this lve t ur wn family, we can als shw this lve t ther peple arund us, t the cuntry, and t the whle wrld.
Narratr:
One f the greatest schlars wh studied Cnfucian thinking, a man named Mencius, 12.explained ren like this:“ lving ne's parents, lving peple, lving everything in the wrld.”
Zigng asked, “Is there ne single cncept that we can take as a guide fr all actins in ur lives?”Cnfucius said, “What abut ‘fairness’? Whatever yu dn't like dne t yurself, dn' t d it t thers.”
This kind f lve shuld 13.direct everything we d. It leads the way t all ther 14.virtues in life. “ D nt d t thers anything that yu wuld nt want dne t yu.” This 15.truth frm the time f Cnfucius still hlds true tday.
