Anything n a turtle’s shell, like algae(水藻), reduces the turtle’s ability t absrb heat and impedes its ability t swim. It can als weaken the shell ver time.” She went n, “I spend a cuple f hurs each Sunday mrning, relaxing by this lake and helping these little guys ut. It’s my wn strange way f making a difference.”
“But dn’t mst freshwater turtles live their whle lives with algae hanging frm their shells?” I asked. “Yep, sadly, they d,” she replied. “Well then, dn’t yu think yur time culd be better spent? And 99% f these turtles dn’t have kind peple like yu t help them clean ff their shells. S, n ffense... but hw exactly are yur effrts here truly making a difference?”
The wman laughed alud. She then lked dwn at the turtle in her lap, brushing the last piece f algae frm its shell, and saisd, “Sweetie, if this little guy culd talk, he’d tell yu I just made all the difference in the wrld. Snw algae (藻) is already a part f summer n the Antarctic Peninsula. A warming planet may mean a lt mre f it. The algal blms (藻花) that blanket parts f Antarctica's snw cver in the summer are likely t expand as the planet warms, researchers say in a new study.
Green snw algae is fund in warmer areas alng the castline where summer temperatures are abve freezing, but still cld enugh there t snw, say scientists in a study published this Wednesday in the jurnal Nature. It's als mre abundant in areas in clse prximity t nesting sites and gathering places fr animals like penguins and seals, whse feces (粪便) fuel the algae's grwth.
Green algae isn't new fr Antarctica—it's knwn t have been there t sme degree fr decades, New Scientist ntes. But what researchers fund suggests that climate change culd have a majr impact n algae in Antarctica, which, in turn, culd have its wn impact n a warming planet.
The scientists dn't predict that green algae will spread n all parts f the peninsula. In fact, sme small lw-lying islands are likely t lse algae, because thse islands may lse their summer snw cver altgether—and the snw algae can't grw withut snw. But they predict the amunt f green algae is likely t grw n larger pieces f land, where it can spread upward t higher grund that still has snw.
S what des mre algae mean, besides turning the landscape green? It's nt ttally clear. The green algae wrks as a carbn sink—the current amunt f algae in Antarctica pulls abut 500 tns f carbn frm the atmsphere each year. On the ther hand, algae als makes the surface f the snw darker, which leads t less sunlight being reflected frm the snw's surface, Scientific American ntes. That means that mre f the sun's heat gets absrbed, speeding up warming. It's high time that we shuld prtect ur planet.
    28. What causes the expansin f algal blms in Antarctica?
    A. The melting f snw. B. The rising air temperature.
    C. The researchers' activities. D. The cvering f snw.
    29. What d we knw abut green snw algae?
    A. It has cvered all parts f Antarctica. B. It will spread t islands withut snw.
    C. It can grw in warm r fertilized places. D. It has sme effects n penguins and seals.
    30. What is the last paragraph mainly abut?
    A. A carbn sink in Antarctica. B. The influence f green algae.
    C. Changes f Antarctica's snw. D. Sunlight reflected frm the snw's surface.
    31. What is the authr's purpse in writing the text?
    A. T share a new discvery abut green algae.
    B. T explain the rigins f green snw algae.
    C. T call n peple t prtect the envirnment.
    D. T shw his cncern abut green snw algae.

The secrets f dreaming are always interesting psychlgists. It is generally acknwledged in the field that dreams peple have during this time between childhd and full adulthd, that's arund 30, are the strngest and mst influential. Yet nt enugh is knwn abut the repeated patterns f dreaming. Researchers are still trying t answer a basic questin: hw des dreaming relate t the life experiences and develpmental challenges?
    G. William Dmhff and Adam Schneider, at the University f Califrnia, help t answer this questin by examining the lengthy dream series f tw individuals, "Izzy" and "Jasmine". Izzy prvided a cllectin f 4,329 dream reprts frm between the ages f 12 and 25, while Jasmine prvided 664 dreams recrded between the ages f 14 and 25.
Large cllectins f dreams like these pse challenges t researchers. Until recently, the means f studying dream series was t emply a team f recrders wh take the time t cde each dream fr a predetermined number f cntent categries, and then cmpare their results. Nwadays, digital technlgies enable the analysis f language usage in dreams with high speed, precisin, and bjectivity. This marks a revlutinary advance in the science f dreaming. Hwever, it can nly lead s far.
T gain mre specific and detailed insights, Dmhff and Schneider tailred wrd strings fr each dreamer, mixing elements f traditinal research with digital tls fr analyzing large data sets. Fr Izzy these wrd strings included "family and relatives", "celebrities" and "fantasy", while the wrd strings they created fr Jasmine included "familiar places", "electrical equipment" and "music". The researchers used these wrd strings t identify cnnectins between their dreams and real lives. Surprisingly, the results f the analysis revealed a great deal f cnsistency and cntinuity in bth sets f dreams. Izzy pays much attentin t pp culture, and has affectin fr famus actrs. Jasmine is an accmplished musician and perfrmer.
"The frequencies f dream elements reveal the intensity f the dreamer's persnal cncern with that element in waking thught," Dmhff and Schneider cnclude. Fr anyne wh still claims dreaming is merely randm nnsense frm the brain and mental wrld, these findings are hard t explain away.
    32. What d psychlgists agree with abut dreams?
    A. Dreams are influenced by life experiences.
    B. Dreaming is never nnsense frm the brain.
    C. Dreams in ne's teens and twenties are mst intense.
    D. The patterns f dreaming are usually repeated.
    33. What des "it" underlined in paragraph 3 refer t?
    A. The cllectin f dreams.B. Research int dreaming.
    C. The digital methd.D. The challenge fr psychlgists.
    34. Hw d the researchers cnduct their study?
    A. By analyzing large data sets.
    B. By develping individualized wrd strings.
    C. By identifying the patterns f dreaming.
    D. By making cmparisn with traditinal research.
    35. Which can be the best title fr the text?
    A. New tech, new findingB. Dreams: reflectins f waking reality
    C. Lives, languages, dreamsD. Life experiences: elements f mental wrld
