But the table remained undamaged, and Maggie hid herself in fear.
    After what seemed like a century the earthquake appeared t be ver. Maggie culd hear the sund f water rushing belw her in the basement. The smell f natural gas was present in the air. Maggie knew where the main water valve(阀门) was lcated. Dad had shwn her where it was and hw t turn it ff. Slwly and carefully she came ut frm under the table.
    The nce tidy hme was nw almst unrecgnizable. As Maggie reached the pen basement dr she culd see the steps were still in gd cnditin. She carefully made her way dwn int the dark basement. While still n the steps she felt the water rising and rising. Suddenly Maggie felt a lt f pain as a large ceiling beam(天花板梁) hit her head and shulder. She fell nt sme strage bxes. . .

    In recent years, the gvernment has restred mre than 20 percent f Australia’s land t Indigenus wners. Since 2007, the Indigenus Rangers Organizatins have been at wrk prtecting this land.
    Luck, ne f the few nn-indigenus emplyees wrking with the Rangers, said the cmbinatin f ld and new techniques and an appreciatin fr the culture f indigenus wrkers has been critical t the prgram’s success.
    “Yu are wrking with staff wh see the wrld different t yu, s there is a much higher fcus n the cultural aspects f wrk and life, ” he said.
    “Being a ranger is a surce f cnfidence. Yu feel strng, ” said Terence, a senir ranger. “Here we still live n the land. The culture is still alive. ”
