The Lakeside Shpping Centre in Essex has intrduced a 720ft “fast lane” reserved fr fast walkers nly, just in time fr the festive rush. The centre’s management team said, “The lane will help the shppers wh knw where they want t g quickly and dn’t want t get caught in behind unhurried shppers at the busiest time f the year.”
The fast lane was intrduced after a MasterCard survey fund that 80 percent f cnsumers fund slw walkers their biggest annyance while shpping. The research als fund that the average walking speed slwed dwn by 21 percent during the festive shpping perid, as mst shppers spent mre time windw shpping during this perid.
Gary Mrtimer, an expert frm the Queensland University f Technlgy, said he wasn’t surprised by the prmtin abut the launch f the fast lane, and thught the cncept wuld appeal t shppers all ver the wrld.
“Crwded parking lts and busy shpping centres tend t be tw f the biggest cmplaints f shppers ver the festive seasn,” he said. “I think the fast lanes are a new apprach. Hwever, I suspect it will be a bit like fast lanes n the highway, s it might end up being mre truble than its wrth.”
