    A
Are sme peple brn clever, and thers brn stupid? Or is intelligence develped by ur envirnment and ur experiences? Strangely enugh, the answer t bth these questins is yes. T sme extent, ur intelligence is given t us at birth, and n amunt f special educatin can make a genius ut f a child brn with lw intelligence. On the ther hand, a child wh lives in a bring envirnment will develp his intelligence less than ne wh lives in rich and varied surrundings. Thus the limits f a persn's intelligence are fixed at birth, but whether r nt he reaches thse limits will depend n his envirnment. This view, nw held by mst experts, can be supprted in a number f ways.
It is easy t shw that intelligence is t sme extent smething we are brn with. The clser the bld relatinship between tw peple, the clser they are likely t be in intelligence. Thus if we take tw unrelated peple at randm(随机地) frm the ppulatin, it is likely that their degrees f intelligence will be cmpletely different. If, n the ther hand, we take tw identical(完全相同的) twins, they will very likely be as intelligent as each ther. Relatins like brthers and sisters, parents and children, usually have similar intelligence, and this clearly suggests that intelligence depends n birth.
Imagine that we take tw identical twins and put them in different envirnments. We might send ne, fr example, t a university and the ther t a factry where the wrk is bring. We wuld sn find differences in intelligence develping, and this indicates that envirnment as well as birth plays a part. This cnclusin is als suggested by the fact that peple wh live in clse cntact with each ther, but wh are nt related at all, are likely t have similar degrees f intelligence.
1.Which f these sentences best describes the writer's pint in Para. 1?
A.T sme extent, intelligence is given at birth.
B.Intelligence is develped by the envirnment.
C.Sme peple are brn clever and thers brn stupid.
D.Intelligence is fixed at birth, but is develped by the envirnment.
答案与解析 D 根据第一段中的“Thus the limits f a persn's intelligence are fixed at birth, but whether r nt he reaches thse limits will depend n his envirnment.”
2.It is suggested in this passage that .
A.unrelated peple are nt likely t have different
    intelligence
B.clse relatins usually have similar intelligence
C.the clser the bld relatinship between peple, the mre different they are likely t be in intelligence
D.peple wh live in clse cntact with each ther are nt likely t have similar degrees f intelligence
答案与解析 B 根据第二段中的“The clser the bld relatinship between tw peple, the clser they are likely t be in intelligence.”
3.In Para. 1, the wrd “surrundings” means .
    A.intelligence B.life
    C.envirnments D.husing
答案与解析 C 根据第一段中的“On the ther hand, a child wh lives in a bring envirnment will develp his intelligence less than ne wh lives in rich and varied surrundings.”
4.The best title fr this article wuld be .
    A.Intelligence
    B.What Intelligence Means
    C.We Are Brn with Intelligence
D.Envirnment Plays a Part in Develping Intelligence
答案与解析 A 根据第一段中的“Or is intelligence develped by ur envirnment and ur experience?”、第二段中的“It is easy t shw that intelligence is t...”和第三段中的“and this indicates that envirnment as well as birth plays a part”可知,文章主要讲的是智力,智力的极限是由先天决定的,而能否达到极限,取决于后天的环境。
    B
Many facts suggest that children are verweight and the situatin is getting wrse, accrding t the dctrs. I feel there are a number f reasns fr this.
Sme peple blame the fact that we are surrunded by shps selling unhealthy, fatty fds, such as fried chicken and ice cream, at lw prices. This has turned ut a whle generatin f grwnups wh seldm ck a meal fr themselves. If there were fewer f these restaurants, then prbably children wuld buy less takeaway fd.
There is anther argument that blames parents fr allwing their children t becme verweight. I agree with this, because gd eating habits begin early in life, lng befre children start t visit fast fd shps. If children are given fried chicken and chclate rather than healthy fd, r are always allwed t chse what they eat, they will g fr sweet and salty fds every time, and this will carry n thrughut their lives.
There is a third reasn fr this situatin. Children these days take very little exercise. They d nt walk t schl. When they get hme, they sit in frnt f the televisin r their cmputers and play cmputer games. Nt nly is this an unhealthy pastime(消遣), but it als gives them time t eat mre unhealthy fd. What they need is t
g utside and play active games r sprts.
The abve are the main reasns fr this prblem, and therefre we have t encurage yung peple t be mre active, as well as steering them away frm fast fd shps and bad eating habits.
5.Accrding t the text, what kind f children may eat mre unhealthy fd?
    A.Thse wh ften d sprts.
    B.Thse wh ften watch televisin.
C.Thse wh ften have meals at hme.
D.Thse wh ften walk t schl.
答案与解析 B 由第四段中的“Nt nly is this an unhealthy pastime(消遣), but it als gives them time t eat mre unhealthy fd.”
6.The authr thinks that children are becming verweight because .
    A.they can't chse what t eat
    B.they are t busy t g ut and play
C.their parents ften ck meals fr them
D.there are t many fast fd shps arund
7.The underlined wrd “steering” in the last sentence mst prbably means .
    A.frcing B.guiding
    C.driving D.mving
    8.The main purpse f the text is t .
    A.tell a stry B.prvide facts
    C.give advice D.cmpare pinins
