二、 学习过程
Part 1: Pre-reading (3 minutes)
Task 1: Predict the meaning of pictures
Look at the pictures on PPT, discuss and predict the meaning the person wants to convey.
Task 2: Read new words
Students read the new words and get familiar with their meaning.
Part 2: While-reading (25 mins)
Task 1: Skim the text and finish the gap-filling on the handout.
Skim the text and find the main idea and important information, then finish the gap-filling on the handout . The passage includes the main idea.
- At the capital international airport, I saw this year’s _______________________ and went to greet them. Tony approached Julia, touched her shoulder and kissed her on the cheek. All students will be 5 groups, each group analyses one paragraph. Students scan the paragraph and discuss its main idea and specific information to finish the mind-map on the blackboard.

Task 4: Answer the questions.
Questions:
- What were that two mistakes that the author noticed?
- Who seemed to prefer to keep more physical distance from others? Who seemed to prefer closer physical distance?
- Did any students have similar greeting customs ? If so, which one ?
- “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” What do you think this famous saying means?
- Do you agree with the author’s statement that body language is not good or bad? Why and why not?
Part 3: Post-reading (9 mins)
Task 1: Role play
Act the scenes people use different body language to greet each other when they first met in the text.
Task 2: Finish the exercises on P28 on the textbook.
Part 4: Summing up & self-check
Sort out and review the main idea and specific information according to the structure, list the highlights in the passage.
