Philippe Crizn was 26 years ld when he had an accident. The dctrs had t remve bth f his arms and legs. “When they cut ff my last leg I wanted t die. I suffered great depressin and my spirit was as lw as yu can get. But yu have t chse-and I chse t live!” Crizn said.
While he was recvering in hspital, Crizn saw a televisin prgram abut a wman wh had been swimming acrss the English Channel. After watching the prgram Crizn decided t d it. He began t exercise every day t make him strng and it tk him tw years t prepare.
Finally, in 2010, Crizn was ready. He entered the cld, grey sea f the English Channel. He was nw 42 years ld. It tk him frm early mrning until night t swim the distance. He felt a lt f pain. But he had becme the first persn withut arms and legs t swim between France and England. Crizn had achieved his dream, but he did nt stp there. He lked fr a new gal.
Early in 2012 he planned t swim acrss the seas that jin five majr cntinents. During the next few mnths he swam between the fur cntinents f Australia, Asia, Africa and Eurpe and finally in the cld waters f the Bering Strait between the cntinents f Asia and the America.
“We want t shw peple smething. If disabled peple have curage and a lt f training they can d the same things as thse wh are nt disabled,” Crizn said.
