Have yu ever watched tinkering vides?Imagine a middle-aged man taking apart an ld music player in his small wrkrm, and then,"just fr fun",putting it back tgether.Such a vide is simply sht with a smartphne, and fr half its duratin,it fcuses nly n repairing a small hk spring(钩簧).
I' ve met tinkering-type peple befre at antiques fairs wh are friendly enugh but I am nt ne f them.Instead,I welcme technlgy.I prefer cntactless payment t cash and streaming music t cllecting CDs.The ther day, hwever, glued t such repair vides fr a few hurs,I fund myself becming increasingly drawn in.
My absrptin may be partly due t what culd be described as the"Bake Off effect":the strng pull f bserving a prcess unflding steadily frm start t finish.Befre I knew it,an entire afternn had slipped away as I did nthing but bserve elderly enthusiasts repairing ld items.
This led me t reflect n the ld bjects arund my hme and realize that I am far less attached t mdernity than I claim.Fr instance,my streaming music is played thrugh tw aging devices:an ld-fashined CD machine which was my wedding gift, and a wd-carved 1940s radi picked up at a charity shp.Neither item bears any sign f the 21st century.I still use them fr they carry far mre charm than a cld smart speaker.I als keep a large cllectin f physical bks despite my e-reader.I have even had a full-height bkshelf built in my living rm,stretching frm flr t ceiling. They are kept fr they' re prettier than a blank wall and nicer t tuch than a Kindle.
I grew up in a 400-year-ld huse full f wden structures and wrn-ut flrbards where lder-lking designs are quite cmfrting.Nw I tend t repair ld bjects befre giving them away, hnestly feeling an uplift in my wellbeing.I guess the tinkerers still have much t teach me.

      C. The admiratin fr the filming techniques.

      B. They serve as antiques with high market value.

      D. They prvide practical daily use fr husehld.

Micrplastics, plastic pieces smaller than 5 millimeters, have becme ne f the mst cncerning cnsumer pllutants due t their lasting presence in water surces.Yet traditinal water treatment systems ften fail t capture the tiniest pieces.Nw a Chinese team f researchers, led by Deng Hngbing frm Wuhan University, has develped a new fam t address just that.
T make the fam,the team turned t nature and emplyed crayfish (淡水小龙虾)shells, which are prduced in large vlumes every year and mstly thrwn away.Thrugh acid and alkali treatment f the shells, they extracted chitin—a natural fiber with remarkable trapping capabilities."The chitin-based fam has a structure with a large number f multi-level hles, similar t a net,"explained Deng."It can attract and interact with diverse micrplastics cmmnly fund in electrnics,fd packaging, textiles and ther industrial prducts."
T see whether the fam wuld wrk in water fund in a natural setting, researchers tested it using samples frm fur real-wrld water surces—irrigatin water, lake water, seawater and pnd water. Results shwed that in each sample it absrbed micrplastics with an efficiency f up t 99.8 percent in its first use,and the remval rates were ver 95 percent after five cycles.
Unlike thse f the cnventinal appraches, the physical prperties f the fam frce micrplastics t attach mre tightly t its structure, reducing the risk f secndary pllutin.Als,the material itself is unlikely t be a surce f secndary pllutin during breakdwn.Imprtantly, its perfrmance remains unaffected by heavy metals and micrrganisms in water.
The team has already applied fr a patent fr this bimass material technlgy, hping t bring it int water treatment plants r hme water purifiers in the near future.
"Micrplastics entering water habitats will cntinuusly increase fr thusands f years,"said Deng,"The rt cause lies in nn-degradable (不可降解的) petrl-based plastic use."Given the structural flexibility f the chitin-based material, the team is lking t develp a new type f biplastic with excellent envirnmental friendliness.
10.What makes crayfish shells a gd chice fr micrplastic remval? ______
      A. The key substance they cntain.B. Their great agricultural value.
      C. The acid treatment they underg.D. Their special natural structure.

      B. T evaluate its reusability ver multiple uses.
      C. T cmpare its perfrmance in different waters.
      D. T prve it wrks better with each repeated use.
12.Hw des the new fam differ frm cnventinal materials? ______

      B. It wrks n heavy metals and micrrganisms.
      C. It better prevents the re-release f micrplastics.
      D. It reduces the harmful chemicals in micrplastics.
13.What is the fcus f the last paragraph? ______

      D. Pssible adjustment t the research methd.

Of curse,ne persn's idea f ding nthing is anther's cncept f a busy afternn.A team f British psychlgists did a research revealing that bredm is far frm being a bad thing.A grup f participants were given the task f cpying numbers frm a telephne directry. At the end, they were asked t cme up with as many uses as pssible fr a paper cup. They utperfrmed the cntrl grup. Then a secnd grup was given a much duller task,t simply read the numbers alud, and they did even better at creative brainstrming.
"When we are bred,ur brains autmatically search fr stimulatin,"says Alfred Mann, the lead researcher."S when we can't meet that stimulatin externally,ur brains will kind f search internally."That's why we start mind-wandering.When we're fully ccupied,ur inner judge is ruling the shw.As Mann puts it:"If yu're daydreaming,yu haven't gt that vice in yur head saying,'Dn't be silly. That's a ridiculus idea!'Instead, yur mind is free t ram utside the bx."
14.Hw des the authr intrduce the tpic?______

      C. By presenting a phenmenn.D. By referring t a ppular study.
15.Why d many peple seldm think f ding nthing accrding t Treanr?______

      C. It bsts the generatin f fresh ideas.
      D. It stimulates the need fr inner peace.
17.What is the authr's purpse in writing this text?______
