I live in a small twn in Yunnan Prvince, n the histric Tea Hrse Rad. My family has lived there fr many generatins. I remember when I was very yung, ld peple tld me abut the hrse caravan (马队) traders wh had traveled that path fr centuries, carrying tea, silks, etc. t markets as far away as India. I culdn’t imagine that there culd still be such an unusual persn in the wrld.
It was even mre surprising when ne day in May f 2021, I fund myself meeting Paul at a ndle shp. It was his first time in China. Paul talked t me with great excitement abut the histry and discvery in my regin f China. He spke f the Shu-Yandu Da (the Sichuan t India trading rute), the Suthern Silk Rad, the Tea Hrse Rad, and the 17th-century Chinese explrer Xu Xiake. Paul cnsidered him a her and in a sense a Chinese pineer f slw turism.
Then I made my biggest decisin f 2021: I wuld accmpany Paul fr hundreds f miles n his walk tward my hme f Yunnan. On September 28, 2021, we finally set ut. Our days were simple: walk, eat, sleep, and repeat. I ate when I was hungry, walked after I ate, and slept when I gt tired.
As I accmpanied Paul t walk n ancient paths thrugh great muntains, I seemed t hear the distant sund f hrse bells lst in time. Tgether, we were amazed by the bidiversity (生物多样性) f the Galigng Muntains and mved by lng-past stries that had happened there.
根据第一段中的“S, when I first heard that Paul Salpek was ging t walk the entire glbe n his wn tw feet withut any mdern transprtatin, I was blwn away. I culdn’t imagine that there culd still be such an unusual persn in the wrld. 故选A。
根据第一段中的“Paul Salpek was ging t walk the entire glbe n his wn tw feet withut any mdern transprtatin(保罗·萨洛佩克打算仅凭自己的双脚走遍全球,不借助任何现代交通工具)”和第二段中的“Paul cnsidered him a her and in a sense a Chinese pineer f slw turism(保罗认为他是英雄,从某种意义上说,是中国慢速旅游的先驱)”可知,Paul徒步环游世界,不依赖现代交通方式,展现了一种慢旅行方式。
根据最后一段“As I accmpanied Paul t walk n ancient paths thrugh great muntains, I seemed t hear the distant sund f hrse bells lst in time. Tgether, we were amazed by the bidiversity (生物多样性) f the Galigng Muntains and mved by lng-past stries that had happened there. I walked frm Yusan village t a lakeside twn in Yunnan called Eryuan—just a warm-up trip int China fr Paul. But after nly 410,000 paces. I reached a real appreciatin fr my hme.
根据第一段中的“S, when I first heard that Paul Salpek was ging t walk the entire glbe n his wn tw feet withut any mdern transprtatin, I was blwn away. I culdn’t imagine that there culd still be such an unusual persn in the wrld. 、倒数第二段“Then I made my biggest decisin f 2021: I wuld accmpany Paul fr hundreds f miles n his walk tward my hme f Yunnan. 以及最后一段“As I accmpanied Paul t walk n ancient paths thrugh great muntains, I seemed t hear the distant sund f hrse bells lst in time. Buried in ash after Vesuvius’ eruptin, hundreds f scrlls (卷轴) have kept their secrets hidden fr centuries. But archaelgists have nw been able t uncver sme f the ancient text with the help f artificial intelligence.
Until nw, the nly way t read what’s inside the scrlls is t put tgether the thusands f pieces f the nes that fell apart, which may take 500 years t uncver their cntent. Frtunately, a team led by Prfessr Scales had already pineered a way t “virtually unwrap” an ancient scrll using X-ray tmgraphy But that was nt enugh t read the hardly visible (可见的) ink n the ancient dcuments. The chemistry f the ink frm the ancient wrld is different than the chemistry frm medieval times. It’s largely invisible t the naked eye even when caught by the X-ray.
In 2019, they did cme up with a slutin based n artificial intelligence t “see” the ink, but it needed much data. S they launched the Vesuvius Challenge t speed up the wrk and released sftware and thusands f 3D X-ray images f three pieces and tw rlled-up scrlls, in the hpe that glbal research grups wuld take up the challenge.
In the end, a team f three students shared the grand prize. They culd read 2,000 letters frm the scrll after training machine-learning algrithms (算法) n the scans. After creating a 3D scan f the text using a CT scan, the scrll was then separated int sectins. A machine learning mdel — an applicatin f AI — then sptted the inked regins, allwing them t decipher the text.
Mastr, an Italian prfessr, called the technique “revlutinary”. “We wrked actually day and night t study them, but I am mre excited that using this methd we can uncver what has been hidden in the scrlls fr almst 2,000 years,” said Mastr.
28. What issue was slved with X-ray tmgraphy?
A. Shwing the scrlls withut pening them.B. Putting divided pieces int a whle cmplete.
C. The fragile nature f the scrlls.D. The difficulty in understanding ancient languages.
29. Hw did AI functin in prcessing the scrlls?
A. By unwrapping the scrlls.B. By researching the chemistry.
C. By separating them with relics.D. By identifying the hardly visible ink.
30. What des the underlined wrd “decipher” mean in paragraph 4?
A. Transmit.B. Understand.C. Arrange.D. Summarize.
31. What is the passage mainly abut?
A. Scrlls prmte technlgical revlutin.B. New technlgy discvered relics in Vesuvius.
C. AI advanced the way t read ancient scrlls.D. Hidden secrets are recrded by archaelgists.
A 29. D 30. B 31. C
根据第二段中“Frtunately, a team led by Prfessr Scales had already pineered a way t "virtually unwrap" an ancient scrll using X-ray tmgraphy (断层扫描术).
根据第三段中“In 2019, they did cme up with a slutin based n artificial intelligence t “see” the ink, but it needed much data.
根据第四段中“A machine learning mdel — an applicatin f AI — then sptted the inked regins, allwing them t decipher the text.
根据第一段中“But archaelgists have nw been able t uncver sme f the ancient text with the help f artificial intelligence.

A rle shift — whether a prmtin, a mve t a new rganizatin, r a fresh challenge in yur existing jb — can be a huge push t yur career and a chance fr yu t succeed. Yu knw the drill heading in: apply yur experience and talents t the psitin, make sure yu are accepted by the hierarchy (高层), and get a few big wins in the first cuple f mnths t shw what yu can d.
But in tday’s hyper-cllabrative and dynamic wrkplaces, successful mves aren’t as easy as they nce were, even fr the mst capable and hard-wrking peple. T ften, transitinal managers and emplyees dn’t live up t their rganizatins’ expectatins. Gartner surveys indicate that a full 49% f peple prmted within their wn cmpanies are underperfrming up t 18 mnths after thse mves, and McKinsey reprts that 27% t 46% f transitinal executives are regarded as failures r disappintments tw years later. They have the right skills and experience. They understand the cmpany’s gals. S why didn’t they quickly specialize in their new rles?
We explred emplyee relatinships and cmmunicatin patterns acrss mre than 100 diverse cmpanies and interviewed 160 executives in 20 f them. Our research pints t ne unnticed prerequisite (先决条件) fr transitin success: the effective use f internal netwrks. The peple wh are the mst prductive, innvative, and engaged in new rles — the “fast mvers” are thse wh establish extremely brad, mutually beneficial, uplifting cnnectins frm the start. Specifically, they develp rapidly int a brad netwrk; identify hw they add value, where they fall shrt, and wh can fill the gaps; create scale; and shape their netwrks fr maximum thriving (繁荣).
In mst cases, individual managers must d these things n their wn. Only 43% f peple surveyed said their rganizatins ensured that transitinal emplyees were ffered guidance and supprt. 【56
