      Eric Drllette wndered hw little exercise was needed t imprve fcus. He’s an exercise expert at the University f Nrth Carlina at Greensbr. He led a team that designed a nine-minute, high-intensity break exercise prgram that culd be dne in a classrm withut extra equipment. It uses shrt perids f heart-beating activity with shrt breaks in between. Fr example, high knees, star jumps, jumping jacks, hps and kicks. They described it in Psychlgy f Sprt and Exercise, a leading academic jurnal.
      Twenty-five students aged 9 t 12 tried ut the prgram. At Drllette’s lab, they wre a heart rate mnitr (监测器) and an EEG hat that recrded brain activity in real time. Then they did the high-intensity break exercises, rde an exercise bike r watched a shrt vide. After each activity, participants did sme tests. One test shwed five fish in a line n a screen, and kids had t nte which directin the center fish faced. Other tests fcused n math r language skills.
      During the fish test, the team nticed a change in what Drllette calls “the uh-h mechanism” — when yu realize yu made a mistake.       Being accepted t University Cllege Lndn was a dream cme true. There was a lt f cmpetitin. Hwever, I had been driven by my parents’ prmise. They said if I wrked hard. they’d let me g traveling in Asia. I excitedly set ff n my travels, flying first t Japan, then China, and finally, Thailand. At the final destinatin f my trip, I saw a small, dirty-lking dg while relaxing n a beach. She wasn’t walking well, and I guessed she had been hit by a car. The pr thing lked scared and hungry, and I culdn’t just leave her there. Luckily, I was directed t the Si Dg Fundatin. The staff f this charity immediately prvided my little friend with fd, medicine, and a gd bath! They als fixed her brken leg befre nursing her back t health. I really admired the wrk the charity des fr Thailand’s hmeless animals, and I made a large dnatin befre flying hme t Sydney After graduatin, I’m planning t spend anther summer in the charity as a vlunteer!When Peter annunced the starting lineup, Tm fund he wasn’t n the list.
