A new study suggests peple might like chatbt-prduced pems fr their simple and straightfrward images, emtins and themes.
In a recent experiment, the researchers tasked OpenAI’s ChatGPT with generating pems in the styles f famus pets, then presented 1,634 participants with ten pems — five human-written and five chatbt-generated — and assessed hw peple rated the pems based n 14 qualities, including rhythm and riginality. Interestingly, they tended t rate the AI-generated pems higher n average, suggesting a preference fr their straightfrwardness and clarity.
Why readers seem t prefer AI-generated petry is nt entirely clear, but the researchers’ best guess is that the AI pems may be mre appealing because they are relatively straightfrward and simple t cmprehend. “Emily Dickinsn smetimes breaks the expected rhyme scheme (韵律) n purpse,” says Brian Prter, a researcher at the University f Pittsburgh, “But the AI-generated pems in her style never did that nce.” Besides, mdern readers dn’t seem t want t bther themselves t read deep t think critically. Instead, they prefer texts giving them instant answers. “When readers say they prefer AI petry, they wuld seem t be shwing their frustratin when faced with writing that des nt yield t their attentin,” he adds.
While the findings raise cncerns abut AI ptentially replacing human artists and putting them ut f wrk ne day, Drthea Lasky, the nly living pet whse writings were included in the experiments, says it’s nt necessarily a bad thing that readers enjyed the AI-generated pems. “Petry will always be necessary,” Lasky says, “If they read AI pems and like that pem better than a human-generated pem, then that, t me, is beautiful. They have a gd experience with a pem, and I dn’t care wh wrte it. I feel there is rm fr all pets — even rbt pets.”
This study prvided a platfrm fr the intersectin f technlgy and creativity, prmpting reflectin n the future f petry and artistic expressin.
24. Why did the researchers cnduct the experiment?

Cnfirmatin bias refers t peple’s tendency t seek ut infrmatin that supprts their existing beliefs. While it’s usually subcnscius, its impacts are significant. It can clud peple’s judgement and decisin-making prcesses.
One explanatin fr cnfirmatin bias is that it is an efficient way t prcess infrmatin. Humans are cnstantly fed with infrmatin and cannt pssibly take the time t carefully prcess each piece. It is adaptive fr humans t rely n subcnscius, autmatic judgements that cntribute t the efficiency. Anther reasn why peple shw cnfirmatin bias is t prtect their self-wrth. Peple like t feel gd abut themselves, and discvering a belief they highly value is incrrect makes them feel bad abut themselves. Therefre, cnfirmatin bias will encurage them t disregard the infrmatin cntrary t their belief.
Researches shw that cnfirmatin bias is strng and widespread. In studies examining my-side bias, peple were able t generate and remember mre reasns supprting their side f a cntrversial issue than the ppsing side. Only when a researcher directly asked peple t generate arguments against their wn beliefs were they able t d s. It is nt that peple are incapable f generating arguments that are cntrary t their beliefs, but, rather, peple are nt mtivated t d s.
Cnfirmatin bias als surfaces in interpersnal cmmunicatin. When interacting with peple wh perceivers think have certain persnalities, the perceivers will ask questins that are biased tward supprting the perceivers’ beliefs. If a new rmmate is expected t be friendly and utging, Maria may ask her if she likes t g t parties rather than asking if she ften studies in the library.
Cnfirmatin bias may lead t incmplete and misinterpreted understanding f an issue r tpic, as crucial infrmatin may be verlked r dismissed. Thus, t avid it, peple are suppsed t diversify the surces f infrmatin accessed as seeking multiple perspectives brings a brader understanding f the subject matter and allws fr well-runded decisin-making. Anther way is t actively challenge the bias by questining assumptins and relying n evidence rather than persnal pinins, which helps us cnsciusly recgnize infrmatinal biases and minimize their impact.
28. Why d peple shw cnfirmatin bias?
A.T help maintain their dignity.
B.T prevent shallw judgements.
C.T handle cmplex infrmatin.
D.T develp their lgical reasning.
29. What did the studies in Paragraph 3 find?
A.Peple culdn’t prduce arguments against their belief.
B.Infrmatin supprting peple’s belief ften wn preference.
C.It tk cnsiderable mtivatin t face cntrversial issues.
D.Peple fcused n infrmatin cncerning the ppsing side.
30. Hw des the writer illustrate cnfirmatin bias in cmmunicatin?
A.By making cmparisn.
B.By giving an example.
C.By intrducing a study.
D.By defining a cncept.
31. What is the passage mainly abut?
A.The rle f my-side bias in enhancing peple’s wn beliefs.
B.The effects f infrmatin verlad n decisin-making prcess.
C.The impact f cnfirmatin bias n interpersnal cmmunicatin.
D.Understanding f cnfirmatin bias and strategies t vercme it.

Just as damaged teeth can be replaced with gld crwns (齿冠), scientists are explring hw gld can be used t repair damaged parts f the brain.
Scientists at Linkping University in Sweden said that a “brain f gld” might just be what we need t fight nervus system diseases. The plan is t put gld electrdes (电极) int the affected part f the brain. They will act as “telephne peratrs” between nerve cells and electrnic medical devices, enabling cmmunicatin s that the nervus system can functin nrmally.
Treatment plans that invlve cnnecting medical devices t the brain already exist. Hwever, the electrdes used are usually made f hard metals, while the brain is like a jelly that “shakes” at the bdy’s slightest mvement.
“As the bdy is cnstantly in mtin, achieving clse cntact between smething that is hard and smething that is sft and breakable becmes a prblem,” explained Klas Tybrandt, ne f the scientists.
This is why the Swedish scientists are using a new material called “gld nanwires” (金纳米线). As the name suggests, these are lng, extremely thin gld threads — 1,000 times thinner than human hair. By putting them int rubber, the scientists have successfully created electrdes that are sft enugh t cnnect cmfrtably with the human brain.
Gld can be made int structures as small as nanwires. Accrding t Live Science, gld can be stretched, pressed r even rlled int all kinds f shapes withut breaking. What’s mre, gld desn’t react with ther chemicals in the human brain, making it a safe chice. Once placed in the brain, gld nanwires can last fr at least three years, which is lnger than many materials currently in use.
32. What rle will gld electrdes play in treating nervus system diseases?
A.Replacing damaged nerve cells.
B.Serving as a cmmunicatin link.
C.Activating different brain regins.
D.Prtecting the brain’s unaffected parts.
33. What can we learn abut gld nanwires?
A.They are harder than rubber.
B.They are as thin as human hair.
C.They can be placed int the brain.
D.They are in the final stage f develpment.
34. Why is gld a safe chice fr use in the brain?
A.It can be stretched by the brain.
B.It can be made int varius shapes.
C.It is being used t create sft electrdes.
D.It has n negative impact n the brain’s functins.
35. What is the main idea f the passage?
A.The unique prperties f gld nanwires.
B.The histry f gld use in the medical field.
C.The current applicatins f gld in the brain.
D.The ptential use f gld in nervus system treatment.
