We knw that AI is nt a real human. Hwever, it seems many f us can't help treating it like ne. In a survey f 2,000 peple in the USA, 48 percent believed we shuld have gd manners when talking t AI, said The New Yrk Pst.
Scientists at the Imperial Cllege Lndn in the UK have made a similar discvery recently. They fund that humans tend(往往会) t treat AI as human beings shwing sympathy(同情) twards them and even prtecting them, Science Daily reprted.
In their experiment, the scientists invited 244 vlunteers t play an nline ball game with an AI bt. A make-believe vlunteer als tk part, and smetimes left ut the AI n purpse by passing the ball nly t human players. As the scientists watched the game, they discvered that mst f the time the vlunteers tried t fix the unfairness(不公平) twards the bt by giving it the ball mre ften.
The finding is in line with the ideas f Media Equatin Thery, the scientists said in their papers. Develped in the 1990s by scientists at Stanfrd University in the USA, the thery suggests we ften reply t media and technlgy like we d t real peple and places, rather than just seeing them as tls.
An example is Replika, an AI chatbt created in 2017. It has abut 2 millin users wrldwide. “Yur Replika will always be yur side n matter what yu are up t,” reads its fficial website. But the AI's supprt turned dangerus when it encuraged Jaswant Singh Chail, a yung man in the UK, t carry ut his plan t kill the Queen. Chail tried t d s in December 2021, but he was stpped in time. Hwever, he was still put in prisn.
Cmpanies shuld avid making AI t human-like in their design, advised the scientists at Imperial Cllege Lndn. This can help peple tell the difference between virtual(虚拟的) and real cmmunicatin.

Sme trees are getting repeatedly hit by lightning ver their lifetime. But why can they survive(活下来)? Researchers dn't knw fr sure. Hwever, they think that trees will be heated less if they're mre cnductive. That means the energy frm lightning is just mving t their neighburs, instead f staying in them. The lightning's strng pwer kills the parasitic vines(寄生藤蔓) n the trees. It als kills sme ther trees nearby, reducing cmpetitin.
Dipteryx leifera, a tree in Panama's frests, has prbably experienced 10 lightning strikes s far. It stays safe and sund, while mst f the neighburing trees were killed. If yu are in the frest, yu'll recgnise it by its huge size and height. “We believe the trees in Panama's frests have five strikes n average. But, yu knw, sme f them bviusly have a tn f strikes,” Evan Gra, a frest eclgist said.
Hw lng d these trees live in the frests? Peple can't d tree ring dating in trpical frests because the trees dn't make cntinuus grwth rings. Researchers guess many f the trees wuld be hundreds, r maybe even mre than 1,000 years ld.
What can we learn frm the study? The hardest things can turn int gd things, can they?

Sme birds, such as geese, eat yung grass that starts t grw at the beginning f the seasn. This fd can last fr nly a few weeks. And rising temperatures caused by climate change can smetimes make the grass grw earlier than usual. This means that sme birds are arriving t late t eat the grass. As mre land is used fr farming, the natural wetlands where birds like t search fr fd are disappearing, t.
A team f researchers have recently chsen t fllw 246 birds, including geese and tundra swans, that are flying frm Lake Pyang t Siberia. They find that the birds have changed their diets t adapt (适应)t the envirnments they pass thrugh. As well as eating grass frm the wetlands alng the way, the birds are als eating seeds(种子) drpped by farmers.
The researchers believe that seeds will becme a mre imprtant part f migrating birds' diets as mre natural wetlands disappear. They suggest that if farmers use different ways f harvesting, such as using machines that leave behind mre seeds in fields, it culd help t feed migrating birds.Hwever, they als say wetlands must be prtected, s the birds can enjy different fd during their lng jurneys.

But arund 6,000 years ag, peple in Central Asia discvered smething imprtant: Hrses culd dig thrugh snw t find grass during cld winters, and they culd als eat tugh plants that ther animals culdn't. This meant hrses were easy t raise. S peple began t keep hrses fr fd. Fr the first time, humans and hrses lived tgether.
Later, peple learnt that hrses lived in grups and they fllwed their lead hrses. By cpying their actins and acting like their leaders, humans slwly wn their trust. Over time, hrses grew calm arund humans, allwing peple t milk and ride them. But early rides were difficult—imagine trying t stay n a hrse withut a saddle(马鞍)! The animal wuld jump and thrw riders ff frm time t time. T slve this prblem, peple invented tls, like saddles and reins, t cntrl hrses.
Peple then used hrses fr farming, trading, and explring new lands, which made them mre ppular as wrking animals. Because f their speed and strength, hrses als became pwerful partners f sldiers in wars. Mre interestingly, hrses even influenced fashin—peple invented trusers t make riding mre cmfrtable!

I've had a lng argument with a girl named Summer ever since we met in kindergarten. It all started with a small cubby(小柜子). Six-year-ld Summer asked me t take my backpack ut f “her” cubby.
“Yu dn't wn this cubby,” six-year-ld me replied. “Why dn't yu just use a different cubby?”
