I nce was a quick-tempered by. If I mumbled (嘟哝), I gt angry. When I gt angry, I’d yell at anyne nearby, nt caring wh they were r what they were ding. Then they wuld make fun f me. Eventually, many peple arund me disliked me because f this. They started aviding me. Even thugh I felt like I needed t imprve myself, I didn’t knw hw.
My father was patient with me and ne day he gave me a basket full f nails (钉子) and a hammer (铁锤). Every time I gt angry, he advised me t avid sclding (责骂) the peple invlved and hammer a nail int the wden fence behind the huse until I calmed dwn. The first day, I hammered abut 50 nails int the fence. As the days passed, I learned t cntrl my hurtful speech in frnt f thse wh made me angry. Only when I gt angry shuld I g and hammer the nails immediately!
Eventually, befre I culd take the basket and hammer and g t the fence, my anger cled and I started hammering nails int the fence less. In a few days, I n lnger felt the need t hammer nails int the fence. I went t my father and tld him the details. Althugh he was happy inside, he didn’t shw it. He gave me a nail puller and asked me t pull ut the nails I had hammered int the fence ne by ne. It tk me a whle day t pull them all ut. After pulling ut all the nails, my father and I went t see the fence. My father shwed me the scars where the nails had been pulled ut frm the fence and said, “When yu get angry, yu lse yur mind and say things like this nail. Even if yu aplgize fr speaking as if yu were pulling ut a nail, the wund left by thse wrds is just as hard t heal as the scar frm this nail.”

The wrld has been changing very quickly since the intrductin f generative artificial intelligence (AI). Generative AI nw helps write stries, create art and answer questins, and it can even cpy peple’s vices. It’s being used in schls, ffices, music and mvies. Even the Oscars (奥斯卡奖) are changing because f AI.
The Academy f Mtin Picture Arts and Sciences has updated its rules, saying films that use AI are nw allwed t win awards. S even if a mvie uses AI t help with writing, editing r vices, it can still win Hllywd’s biggest prize. The Academy explained that using AI will nt help r hurt a film’s chances f getting nminated (被提名), althugh human creativity and input are still the things that matter mst. “AI is just a tl,” said Academy president David Rubin. “What truly makes a film great is the human stry behind it.”
The use f AI in film became a talking pint after this year’s Oscars, when Adrien Brdy wn Best Actr fr his wrk in The Brutalist. In the film, bth Brdy and his c-star Felicity Jnes had t speak Hungarian (匈牙利语), a very difficult language t prnunce. Accrding t the film’s editr David Jancs, AI was used t perfect their speech. “They did a wnderful jb, but we als wanted t perfect it s that even lcals will nt ntice any difference.” Anther Oscar-winning film, the musical Emilia Perez, used AI t imprve the singing f the actrs.
The use f AI is becming mre cmmn in the film and music industries. But nt everyne is happy abut it. During the 2023 Hllywd strikes, many actrs and writers spke ut abut AI, saying they were wrried it culd take away their jbs. Sme wrried that studis might use it t write scripts instead f hiring real writers, and thers feared their vices r faces culd be cpied by AI withut their permissin. Industry experts suggest that while AI can assist in prductin, it cannt replace human creativity and emtinal depth that audiences cnnect with.

But have yu ever nticed hw hard it is t stp? A new study lked at what happens inside ur bdies when we use scial media and when we suddenly stp. It fund that scial media desn’t just attract ur attentin; it causes changes in ur heart rate, sweat levels and stress respnses.
Researchers frm Durham University in the UK lked at Instagram t see hw it changes ur physical state in real time. Fr the study, they tested 54 Instagram users in three steps, each lasting 15 minutes. First, participants read a news article t measure their nrmal state. Then, they scrlled thrugh Instagram. Finally, they had t stp using Instagram, but still received ntificatins(消息提醒) they culdn’t check.
During each step, the researchers lked at participants’ heart rates, sweat levels and stress. While participants scrlled, their heart rates slwed, meaning they were very fcused. At the same time, sweat levels increased, shwing excitement. But when participants had t stp scrlling, their heart rates increased, sweat levels rse even mre, and they reprted feeling anxius and stressed. These effects were even strnger when they were getting ntificatins they culdn’t check.
The effects were the same fr everyne, nt just heavy scial media users. Niklas Ihssen, ne f the study’s authrs, explained that these effects suggest that Instagram pulls peple int a state f deep engagement. And if that state is interrupted, the bdy reacts with mre stress. These findings raise imprtant questins abut hw scial media affects us. If every shrt scrlling sessin brings pleasure fllwed by stress, peple may g thrugh this cycle many times a day withut knwing it.
