21.(6分)Have yu ever nticed tiny raised areas n the branches f a tree? These may have been insects. These small insects feed n tree sap (汁液). Insects n urban trees are ntably mre abundant than thse n rural trees. As a result, urban trees suffer frm heavy infestatins (害虫横行), and are ften unhealthy r die. T prtect and restre urban trees’ health, we need t determine the factrs that make these tree pests mre successful in urban habitats.
Living rganisms interact clsely with their envirnment. The warmer, mre drught-stressed trees harbr mre successful pests than cler, less drught-stressed trees. As cities and natural habitats becme htter and drier, damaging insects will becme mre abundant n urban trees.
Trees within urban frests are valuable ecnmically and fr the envirnmental sustainability (可持续性) f the regin. Mre than half f the wrld’s ppulatin lives in cities. Acrss the glbe, peple are mving int cities at a faster rate than ever. Rapid grwth may turn cities int places with harder cnditins. Althugh cities are primarily made f buildings, rads, parking lts, and vehicles, there are still plants in them. The trees within a city are referred t as the urban frest. Urban frests ffer very big benefits t human and envirnmental health. They imprve air and water quality, prvide habitat fr wildlife, cl dwn temperatures and beautify ur envirnment. They make cities livable.
Hwever, being a city tree is nt easy. Heat released by human activities is trapped in cities. As a result, temperatures in urban areas are ften warmer than their surrunding rural areas. We call this urban warming r the urban heat island effect. Urban habitats are mstly made f surfaces f asphalt (沥青) and cncrete. These surfaces reduce the amunt f rainwater that reaches tree rts. As a result, urban frests may suffer, which can negatively affect peple and the envirnment.
What can we d t restre urban frests? Regular irrigatin when pssible may help keep pest ppulatins under cntrl. Planting tree species that are suitable t handle heat and drught stress wuld als reduce the ccurrence f insect pest utbreaks.
1、What makes tree pests mre successful in the city than in rural areas?
      A.The warmer and rainy habitat.
      B.The htter and drier habitat.

In 2012, he and his family were inspired t build and dnate a bunk bed, ne bed n tp f the ther, after learning there were lcal children wh slept n the flr. Shcked t discver hw widespread this need was in his cmmunity, Mickelsn funded Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nnprfit that builds and delivers beds t children in need.

He recruited friends and family members t help arund the hliday. As wrd spread, interest and invlvement frm his and ther cmmunities flded—alng with Mickelsn’s bunk bed utput. “That first prject, we built 11 bunk beds in my garage,” he said. “The next year, we did 15. Then it dubled every year. In 2017, we built 612 bunk beds.”
With the mtt “N kid sleeps n the flr in ur twn”, the nnprfit and its mre than 65 branches have built and delivered mre than 1,500 free beds t children acrss America. But alng with the rapid grwth, Mickelsn was faced with a tugh chice: advancing his career r his nnprfit. He chse the latter and went frm making “great mney t zer mney”. He’s never lked back. “I fund that the need I have isn’t financial,” he said. “The need I have is seeing the jy n kids’ faces, knwing that I can make a difference.”

23.(8分) Researchers have fund bees can d basic mathematics, in a discvery that deepens ur understanding f the relatinship between brain size and brain pwer. Recently, A study cnducted by researchers frm RMIT University in Melburne, Australia shwed that bees culd perfrm arithmetic peratins like additin and subtractin (减法).
Slving math prblems requires a cmplex level f invlving the mental management f numbers, lng-term rules and shrt-term wrking memry. The finding that even the tiny brain f a hneybee can grasp basic mathematical peratins has a pssible effect n the future develpment f Artificial Intelligence, particularly in imprving rapid learning.
RMIT’s Prfessr Adrian Dyer said numerical (数字的) peratins like additin and subtractin are cmplex because they require tw levels f prcessing. “Yu need t be able t hld the rules arund adding and subtracting in yur lng-term memry, while mentally using skillfully a set f given numbers in yur shrt-term memry,” Dyer said. “On tp f this, ur bees als used their shrt-term memries t slve arithmetic prblems, as they learned t recgnize plus r minus as abstract cncepts.”
The findings suggest that advanced numerical cgnitin (认知) may be fund much mre widely in nature amng nn-human animals than previusly suspected.
“If math desn’t require a massive brain, there might als be new ways fr us t include interactins f bth lng-term rules and wrking memry in designs t imprve rapid AI learning f new prblems,” said Dyer.
Many species can understand the difference between quantities and use this t search fr fd, make decisins and slve prblems. But numerical cgnitin, such as exact number and arithmetic peratins, requires a mre cmplex level f prcessing.
Previus studies have shwn sme primates (灵长目动物), birds, babies and even spiders can add and/r subtract. The new research, published in Science Advances, adds bees t that list.

C.nly invlves their shrt-term wrking memry
      D.calls fr a lt f maths knwledge
3、What des the finding f the new research suggest?
A.Bees can recgize the exact number.
B.Arithmetic peratins exist in human and bees.
C.Numerical cgnitin has been fund in many mre species.
D.Sme primates, birds and even spiders can add and substract.
4、What can be the best title fr the text?
A.A Discvery Abut the Tiny Brain f Bees
B.New Findings Abut Bees Having Numerical Cgintin
C.Numerical Cgnitin Requires a Cmplex Level f Prcessing
D.The Relatinship Between Brain Size and Brain Pwer
