22.(8分) Plants n Earth have grwn fr hundreds f millins f years, yet President Dnald Trump’s pick t lead his new climate team insists that they need mre carbn dixide (CO2) t bm.
Princetn physicist and carbn dixide-advcate William Happer has been selected t head the brand new Presidential Cmmittee n Climate Security. The atmic scientist, wh achieved recgnitin fr his wrk n atmic cllisins (原子碰撞), nt climate science, declared that the planet’s atmsphere needs significantly mre CO2, which is reprted t speed up climate change. Happer said plants use CO2 t live and mre CO2 is actually a benefit t the Earth. He als stressed that Earth is experiencing a “CO2 starvatin”, and cncludes that “If plants culd vte, they wuld vte fr cal.”
Earth and plant scientists, hwever, find Happer’s insistence that the plant kingdm wuld benefit frm increased CO2 wrng-headed and it lacks evidence. Fr example, Earth’s CO2 levels have increased sharply in the last century, and are nw at their highest levels in at least 800,000 years—thugh ther measurements shw CO2 levels are higher than they’ve been in 15 millin years. “The idea that increased CO2 is universally beneficial ‘t plants’ is very misguided,” Jill Andersn, an evlutinary eclgist specializing in plant ppulatins, said in an interview. Data shws the evlutin f glbal average temperature and CO2 cncentratin frm 1850 t 2019. Thugh 2019 is a bit cler than recent years, it still is ne f the warmest years ever and lies clse t the trend line f glbal warming.
Bth independent academic rganizatins and gvernment agencies arund different parts f the wrld cncluded mre CO2 will bring many negative impacts t plant envirnments. And they added that “If smene is ging t claim it is gd, it’s necessary fr them t shw evidence.”
1、Why des Happer think plants need mre CO2?
A.Plants vte fr mre CO2.B.CO2 speeds up climate change.
C.Plants need mre CO2 t live.D.CO2 is actually a benefit t the Earth.
2、What can be inferred frm paragraph 3?
A.2019 is a bit warmer than recent years.
B.CO2 levels must be the highest in histry.
C.The plant kingdm must benefit frm increased CO2.
D.There are adequate evidence t supprt Happer’s insistence.
3、What des the underlined wrd “it” in the last paragraph prbably refer t?
A.Mre CO2.B.The plant.
C.The wrld.D.The US gvernment.
4、The authr’s attitude in writing this passage can be described as ________.
A.criticalB.bjective
C.psitiveD.negative
23.(8分)J.K. Rwling is the authr f the mst successful bk series in histry, but her attempt t take n a new career as a screenwriter hasn’t been as smth as she may have thught it wuld be. The sequel(续篇), “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes f Grindelwald”, shws that even the mst successful authr in the wrld is in need f checks and balances when making the transitin t cinema.
Fllwing the sale f half a billin cpies f the Harry Ptter series, Rwling is wrking hard t extend and enrich the mythlgy she created arund the child wizard. In cntrast t the eight Harry Ptter mvies, which were based n the seven bks and mst f which were written by experienced screenwriter Steve Klves, the “Fantastic Beasts” series is scripted nly by Rwling. This time she skipped the bkstres and went straight t the mvie theater.
The “Fantastic Beasts” series takes its title frm ne f Harry Ptter’s textbks. The leap backward in time, a new set f adult heres and a glbe-spanning backgrund shw that Rwling is in tune with her fans and the spirit f the times. Harry Ptter and his friends started ut as a typical prduct f 1990s naivety, but since then the lyal veteran audience has experienced the shcks f the 21st century and grwn mature and discuraged. The “Fantastic Beasts” series feel less like children’s fare; they deal with adults and frightening events that ccurred in Eurpe at the end f the 1920s.
It’s 193, and the criminal Grindelwald has escaped frm prisn t Eurpe. The her, Newt Scamander, a zlgist f fantastic beasts, prefers t distance himself frm plitics and maintain his imprvised nature reserve in Lndn. But the yung Prf. Dumbledre reminds him that neutrality is nt an ptin in hard times. Dumbledre urges him t crss the Channel t Paris and stp Grindelwald, wh is trying t plt a war t ensure the purity f the wizard race.
The rugh utline f the plt cnstitutes nly part f the mvie. There are many ther characters wh appear in the mystery. I will mentin the by Credence wh cntinues t have a central rle in the struggle between the her and the villain, even as his backgrund remains a mystery. Similarly, Newt’s brther and partner, the snake-wman Nagini, and ther new and ld characters hint at an bscure past and future. Rwling ppulates her wrld with characters large and small, dd beasts and simplifies its stry t lay the fundatin wrk f the universe. The film lays strng fundatins f mystery, but frgets t build any srt f structure abve them. It’s like a cnstructin site where the budget ran ut t fast.
With mvie screens full f superheres and fantasy films, and every studi trying t flat a fictinal universe, Rwling is tday’s mst creative builder f cinema wrlds, but there’s still a difference between her and a mega-crpratin like Disney. Every character and beast is there because Rwling said s, nt because the marketing divisin thught it wuld prmte sales f merchandise. Rwling clearly has a true passin t create a mythlgy, and just as clearly, she hasn’t yet finished creating it.
The “Fantastic Beasts” series ffers a wrld even fuller than that f Harry Ptter. Once mre she cllabrates with David Yates, wh directed the last fur Harry Ptter mvies and nw the tw “Fantastic Beasts” pictures. Still, the wrld she’s created wuld be even mre wndrus if Rwling had nly filled it ut with a crystallized r at least cherent plt. In the Harry Ptter series, she mstly succeeded in making the films int independent wrks. But withut experienced screenwriters t mediate between her imaginatin and the screen, the tw “Fantastic Beasts” episdes are mre like a chess game in which the creatr mves characters frm A t B as part f a brader strategy---which remains unclear.
“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes f Grindelwald” is a film made fr existing fans and desn’t bther t appeal t a new audience. Nt by chance des it ffer a mre mature wrld fr fans wh have grwn up at least as much as Daniel Radcliffe. Fr them, the mvie delivers the gds, but little f the magic remains. If Rwling cntinues t put ut films withut a beginning and an end, her wrld will cllapse, leaving nly the middle. It may be entertainment with captivating characters and effects, but it’s nt a mvie.

D.There is still much rm fr imprvement.
