Wang Zhenyi was (王贞仪, 1768-1797) nt nly a famus scientist but als a wman well knwn fr her cntributins in astrnmy (天文学), mathematics, and petry in the Qing dynasty. Scientists wh have been studying a grup f sulphur-crested cckats (葵花凤头鹦鹉) in Sydney have recently made an amazing discvery: the birds knw hw t use public drinking funtains (喷泉式饮水器) t get water.
In 2018, Dr. Barbara Klump nticed a cckat drinking frm a public drinking funtain in Sydney. She thught smene had frgtten t turn ff the water. But after lking at a vide, she realized that the bird was turning n the funtain by itself. Dr. Klump's team then decided t study the cckats clsely. They set up tw cameras near a drinking funtain that the birds used ften. Over 44 days, the cameras recrded the birds using the funtain 525 times.
The scientists fund that each bird did it a little differently, but they all used at least ne ft t hld dwn the handle (把手) n the funtain and turn it n. And sme put their ft n the water utlet. Once the water was running, they tried t drink frm the funtain.
Cckats are actually very intelligent birds. Hwever they didn't always succeed. The birds gt water in nly abut 41% f their effrts t use the funtain. The birds had an especially hard time when they were in a hurry r when ther cckats were trying t use the funtain at the same time.
