Clarke Reynlds, a 45 - year - ld blind artist, plans t run the Brightn Marathn using technlgy that cnnects him t sighted vlunteers in real time.
Reynlds, knwn as “Mr. Dt”, creates braille (盲文) art t raise awareness f sight lss.
He has been visually impaired (受损的) in his right eye since age six, and lst visin in his left

shadws and sme clur. He nce created a braille cpy f Nirvana’s “Nevermind” album cver.
Three years ag, he cmpleted the Lndn Marathn with a physical guide runner. Later
this mnth, he’ll be running the Brightn Marathn — but he is taking his challenge t a new
level. Rather than using a physical guide, he will use an app called Be My Eyes t cnnect him
with a wrldwide netwrk f sighted vlunteers. Using the camera and speakers n his smart
glasses, the vlunteers will be able t see what he sees and speak t him in real time, directing him thrugh the 26.2 miles.
“They tell me if there’s a bin r a parked car,” he says. “But mst f the time we just
discuss what sight lss is.” Be My Eyes is nrmally used fr daily tasks, like helping a visually
impaired persn find the right buttn n a TV remte. Reynlds activates it by saying, “Hey Meta, cme be my eyes.” The vlunteers als act as his cheerleaders.
He has trained by running laps n the 0.7 - mile rad where he lives — a rute he knws by heart. Over 100 peple have supprted him, sme frm as far as Jrdan. The vlunteers fr race
day are being rganized by Fight fr Sight, a charity funding sight lss research, fr which Reynlds is an ambassadr.
A backup guide runner will be ready in case the technlgy fails. Althugh he was daunted befre the Lndn Marathn, he feels cnfident abut Brightn. “If yu had tld me 13 years ag that I’d be inspiring visually impaired children arund the wrld, I’d never have believed yu,” he

With a tap n a smartphne screen, a smart drip irrigatin system (滴灌系统) is activated, delivering water and fertilizer (肥料) directly t the rts f wheat plants. This scene, unflding in fields acrss China, marks a significant departure frm the traditinal labr - intensive methds
that nce defined the cuntry’s spring swing seasn. As 2026 spring farming is in full swing,
integrated digital slutins and artificial intelligence (AI) are redefining agricultural prductivity.
At a smart farmland in Kunshan, east China’s Jiangsu Prvince, ver 3,800 mu f fields are managed with minimal human invlvement. Drnes fly ver fields t cllect real - time data,
which is used t create 3D agricultural maps. AI analyzes the maps and issues precise instructins fr irrigatin and fertilizatin. Lcal farmers cnfirm that drnes cver large areas efficiently,
making field management mre accurate and increasing their cnfidence in a gd harvest.
Intelligent seeding machines, equipped with advanced cntrl systems, ensure cnsistent planting placement and precise seed vlume, greatly imprving seedling emergence rates cmpared with
traditinal tls.
In Wuxi’s vegetable industrial park, autmated seedling machines are perating at full
speed. “In the past, we needed at least 20 wrkers. Nw, fur peple can easily handle the task,”
said Zhang Dapeng, head f the base. Smart germinatin (育苗) rms and transprt vehicles have further raised prductin efficiency and seedling quality. In Nanjing’s tea gardens, Internet f
Things mnitring and intelligent electric prductin lines have replaced charcal stves,
imprving tea quality by nearly 50 percent and raising farmers’ annual incme by 70 percent.
This digital transfrmatin has becme a natinal trend. The cntributin f agricultural science and technlgy in China exceeded 64 percent in 2025. Smart agriculture is expanding quickly frm castal plains t inland areas, with lcal authrities prviding supprt fr weather services and energy supply. As Yi Zhngyi, head f Jiangsu’s academy f rural vitalizatin,
pinted ut, digital and intelligent technlgies are running thrugh every part f agricultural prductin, breaking thrugh the bttlenecks f traditinal agriculture and fueling its high - quality and green develpment.

10 .What is Yi Zhngyi’s attitude tward smart agriculture?
A .Dubtful. B .Supprtive. C .Objective. D .Uncncerned.
11 .What can be a suitable title fr the text?

Despite the enrmus variety f languages spken arund the wrld, certain grammatical
patterns keep shwing up. A new study finds that abut ne - third f lng - standing “linguistic universals” (语言共性) are backed by strng statistical evidence when tested using mdern
evlutinary methds. An internatinal research team led by Annemarie Verkerk and Russell D. Gray analyzed 191 prpsed universals using Grambank, the largest database f grammatical
features ever cnstructed. Their dataset cvered mre than 1,700 languages.
In earlier research, linguists tried t avid similarities between related r nearby languages by selecting samples frm distant regins. While helpful, that apprach des nt cmpletely
eliminate hidden cnnectins between languages. It can als weaken statistical results and fails t reveal hw languages change ver time. T address this, the researchers used Bayesian spati -
phylgenetic analyses, which accunt fr bth shared ancestry and gegraphic influence. This apprach ffers a much higher level f statistical reliability than mst previus studies.
“In the face f huge linguistic diversity, it is fascinating t find that languages dn’t evlve at randm,” says Verkerk. “I am delighted that the different types f analyses we did reached very similar results, suggesting that language change must be a central cmpnent in explaining
universals.” The findings shw strng supprt fr several repeating patterns. These include wrd rder preferences and hierarchical structures (多级结构). Imprtantly, these patterns have
appeared repeatedly acrss unrelated languages in different parts f the wrld. This repetitin suggests that there are deep limits guiding hw humans rganize language.
Senir authr Russell Gray reflected, “We discussed whether t write this up as a glass -
half - empty paper — ‘lk hw many prpsed universals dn’t hld’ — r a glass - half - full paper — ‘there’s strng statistical supprt fr abut a third’. In the end, we chse t highlight the patterns that evlve repeatedly, shwing that shared cgnitive (认知的) and cmmunicative
pressures push languages twards a limited set f preferred grammatical slutins.”
By identifying which universals traly stand up t strict testing, the study helps narrw the fcus fr future research. It pints scientists tward the basic cgnitive and cmmunicative frces that shape human language.
12 .What can we knw abut the new study?
A .It cnstructed a language database. B .It revealed n grammatical patterns.
C .It btained strng statistical supprt. D .It analyzed 1,700 prpsed universals.
13 .Hw des the authr develp the secnd paragraph?
A .By listing figures. B .By giving an example.
C .By describing prblems. D .By making a cmparisn.
14 .What satisfied Verkerk abut the research results?
A .Patterns in all languages. B .Randm evlutin rule,
C .Full explanatin f diversity. D .Cnsistent analysis results.
15 .What can be implied frm the last tw paragraphs?
A .Scientists will shape human language.
B .Future research may have a clearer fcus.
C .Shared pressures enlarge language sets.
D .Different perspectives affect research results.
