Researchers have uncvered a hidden painting beneath Pabl Picass’s Prtrait f Mateu Fernandez de St, revealing a mysterius wman wh had been cncealed fr mre than a century. This discvery ffers new insights int Picass’s early Blue Perid and his creative prcess.
The wman, with a chignn (发髻) hairstyle ppular in early 1900s Paris, was revealed by cnservatrs at the Curtauld Institute f Art in Lndn. The discvery came ahead f the painting’s inclusin in the exhibitin Gya t Impressinism: Masterpieces frm the Oskar Reinhart Cllectin, pening at the Curtauld Gallery. Barnaby Wright, the gallery’s deputy head, explained that the hidden figure emerged gradually as researchers used an infrared (红外线的) camera t scan the artwrk. “Once yu knw what lies underneath the surface, yu can see distinct features such as her eye, ear and hair clearly,” he added.
Althugh the wman’s identity remains a mystery, she shares similarities with ther figures Picass painted during this perid. Wright suggests she might have been a mdel, a friend r even a lver. While experts acknwledge that the wman’s identity may never be cnfirmed, nging analysis f the prtrait is expected t prvide mre details abut Picass’s early techniques and the individuals wh influenced him.
X-ray imaging als revealed that Picass had painted ver the wman’s prtrait, a cmmn practice fr the artist due t financial limitatins. Like many f his ther rewrked pieces, the artist painted directly ver the lder wrk rather than whitewashing it. This way f wrking t transfrm ne image int anther and t be a stylistic shapeshifter has becme a defining feature f his art, which helped t make him ne f the giant figures f art histry.
The discvery f hidden elements in renwned artwrks is becming increasingly cmmn as technlgy advances. Similar findings have been made beneath the wrks f Titian, Vincent van Ggh, Wyndham Lewis, and Rene Magritte, highlighting hw mdern scanning methds are reshaping ur understanding f icnic paintings.
      28. What des the underlined wrd “cncealed” mean in Paragraph1?
      A. hiddenB. paintedC. shwnD. ignred.
      29. What is still uncertain abut the hidden prtrait?
      A. The time when Picass created it.
      B. The technlgy used t discver it.
      C. The prcess f discvering the hidden prtrait.
      D. The wman’s exact relatinship with Picass.
      30. Why might Picass paint ver the lder wrks?
      A. He wanted t try ut different clr styles.B. He was changing his style and subject.

Effective cmmunicatin is the fundatin f high-perfrming rganizatins, particularly in an era f remte wrk and digital tls. Yet many leaders fail t set clear cmmunicatin nrms (规范), resulting in burnut, wasted time, and reduced prductivity.
Cnsider these breakdwns. A clleague misses an urgent call because the message was sent via Slack (a team cllabratin tl), which they rarely check. A leader preparing fr a meeting receives five incnsistent reprts frm five different units. These examples illustrate the cnflict that arises when cmmunicatin nrms are unclear. As AI-assisted writing becmes mre cmmn, it is even mre critical t establish clear nrms that priritize readability.
Research shws that recipients ften feel pressured t respnd faster than expected, and sme messages requiring quick decisins g unnticed fr days. T prevent these mismatches, rganizatins shuld establish clear respnse times acrss different cmmunicatin channels. Besides respnse speed, teams must als clarify when emplyees are expected t engage. Sme rganizatins establish “quiet hurs” t delay messages utside f wrking hurs s that leaders fster (培养) a wrk culture that balances respnsiveness with well-being.
In the bk Writing fr Busy Readers: Cmmunicate Mre Effectively in the Real Wrld, six science-based principles are presented. The cre idea? Brevity. In ne experiment, researchers randmly assigned 7,000 leaders t receive either a 129-wrd request t cmplete a survey r a 49-wrd ne. When bth versins were tested with an independent grup, the lnger ne was widely assumed t be mre effective. But the data tld a different stry — cutting wrds nearly dubled the respnse rate.
Hwever, writing less isn’t always the better apprach. Fr instance, a 3,000-wrd reprt might be mre reader-friendly, but 6,500 wrds culd be interpreted as the writer ding a mre thrugh jb. In this case, less culd still be mre effective, but mre culd be seen as better.
S effective cmmunicatin isn’t just abut writing less — it’s abut making reading easier. But ease lks different in different settings. That’s why teams shuld define their cmmunicatin nrms t ensure clarity and cnsistency s rganizatins can slidify them acrss their teams and wrkflws.
What causes the cmmunicatin breakdwns mentined?
      A. Over-reliance n AI writing tls. B. Pr management f business units.
      C. Unclear cmmunicatin rules. D. Bad relatinships amng wrkmates.
      33. Hw can rganizatins get expected respnses?
      A. By shifting t ffline cmmunicatin. B. By fstering a cmpetitive wrk atmsphere.
      C. By using a single cmmunicatin channel. D. By setting clear respnse time standards.
      34. What can yu infer frm the reprts in paragraph 5?
      A. Lnger writing appears mre cnvincing. B. Shrter texts wrk better in all cases.
      C. Detailed reprts take mre effrt t write. D. Writers shuld make their reprts lnger.
      35. What is the best title fr the text?
      A. Brevity as the key t better reading. B. Imprtance f clear cmmunicatin rules.
      C. Hidden prblems in remte nline wrk. D. New changes in writing brught by AI.

Time is a resurce that is equally shared amng all peple. The key lies nt in hw much time we have, but in hw we use it. 40 Exercising r vlunteering can help yu make the mst f yur time and give yu a sense f achievement.

      Paragraph 1
Kiki came up t Liam at nce, its eyes filled with cncern. It gently helped him sit up, its sft mechanical hands carefully supprting his injured arm. Withut a wrd, it unflded the umbrella and prtected him frm the puring rain. Then it slwly assisted him t stand and walked him hme step by step. Liam bit his lip t hld back his tears, feeling a warm current spreading thrugh his chest. This cld-lking machine, he realized, seemed t understand his pain better than anyne else.
      Paragraph 2
Safe and mved, Liam returned hme with Kiki’s help. It fetched a first-aid kit and gently cleaned and bandaged his injured arm. Then it prepared a cup f warm milk and placed his favrite sketchbk beside him. “Yu draw beautifully,” it said in a sft vice. Liam brke dwn cmpletely, hugging Kiki tightly in his arms. Fr the first time, he truly understd that kindness and care were nt limited t humans, and Kiki had becme his sincere friend, driving away his lneliness nce and fr all.

M: OK, let me take a quick lk… Hmm. It lks like yu knw the material, but yu dn’t seem t knw hw t put it tgether in essay frm. Lts f first-year students struggle with essay exams. It’s a cmmn prblem. It’s easy t fix.
      W: Hw? What can I d?
M: First thing t d when taking any essay exam is t read the questins carefully. Then, immediately write an utline that makes use f any key infrmatin that cmes t mind.
W: An utline? That seems like a waste f time. I’m always anxius t get my answer dwn, s that I can mve n t the next questin.
M: I understand that feeling, but starting with an utline will actually save yu time in the lng run. Withut a structured plan, yur ideas can end up disjinted. This leads t answers that lack a clear beginning, middle and end. They’re just facts that haven’t been cnnected.
      W: OK, yu’ve cnvinced me.
      (Text 10)
M: Hell, everyne. D yu knw McDnald’s? Well, the McDnald brthers pened their first hamburger restaurant in Califrnia in 1940 but within eight years, they clsed it dwn and re-pened as a take-away restaurant. They ffered practically n service. Fr example, yu lined up fr yur fd, paid at the cunter and tk it t yur wn table r car. They were highly recgnized as the first peple t invent the idea f fast fd. But that wasn’t the nly new idea they came up with. They als brught in the entirely new cncept f specializatin fr staff in the kitchen. They had ne persn cking the burgers, while anther persn was ding the milkshakes, and s n. They liked t advertise their sales perfrmance and in 1950 they prudly put up a sign utside their restaurant telling the wrld that they had sld ne millin burgers. That desn’t seem s many nwadays, but in thse early days it was quite an achievement. Then in 1961 the brthers decided they’d had enugh f the hamburger business s they sld the cmpany fr 2.7 millin dllars alng with the name. Tday there is hardly a cuntry in the wrld where yu can nt get a McDnald’s hamburger.
