I lked at the club sign-up frms n the ntice bard. The chices swam befre me: utdr club, cmputer club, phtgraphy club and mre, all lking inviting. But I culd nly pick ne.
The debate (辩论) club was an easy chice fr me. I remembered lifting the debate trphy (奖杯) and being cheered by my classmates in my ld schl. Hwever, in this new schl, debating was cnsidered “bring” and phtgraphy “cl”. Many students scrambled t sign up fr phtgraphy. I quickly tried t add my name after theirs, but my pen kept ging dry. It felt like even the pen knew I shuld have signed up fr debate. I shut dwn the thught, telling myself phtgraphy wuld be fun—it had t be if I needed t fit in (融入). I needed t feel I belnged.
When the phtgraphy club met, I knew I had made the wrng chice. I didn’t wn a camera, yet there I was, listening t the thers discussing camera settings. The black-and-white phts lked dwn frm a line n the wall. It seemed that they were silently telling me I shuldn’t be here. I was cmpletely lst.
I asked t leave fr a drink, but I headed straight t the debate club instead. Outside the dr, I listened t the advisr, Ms. Hlmes, utlining the debate tpics, which sunded like pleasant music. Hw I’d missed that excitement! This was where I belnged. I stepped inside; all faces turned tward me.
“Excuse me, Ms. Hlmes,” I said nervusly. “Can I still jin the team?” She shk her head. “I’m afraid it’s full.” I must have lked s disappinted, because she smiled. “If yu really want t jin us, yu can be a stand-in, taking the place f anyne absent. It means yu have t learn t argue frm bth sides.”
“I can d that.” My eyes brightened. I ran back t the phtgraphy advisr. Luckily, he greenlit my decisin t switch (调换) clubs.
N ne n ur team missed a meet, s I didn’t debate that seasn. But I had n regrets, because I realized smething valuable: being true t myself was mre imprtant than being ppular, In fact, it was the nly way t be truly cl.

N questin is t small when Kayla Chege, a high schl student in Kansas, uses artificial intelligence (AI). She turns t AI fr guidance n everything frm back-t-schl shpping t her birthday party planning. While yu might think f AI as a hmewrk helper fr students, it is increasingly (渐增地) becming a digital cmpanin (陪伴) fr many f them—ffering nt just answers, but als advice, emtinal supprt, and friendship.
In a new study frm Cmmn Sense Media, a grup that studies the healthy use f screens and digital media, researchers surveyed mre than 1,000 teens in the US. The results shw that ver 70% f the teens have ever used AI as a cmpanin. Abut ne in three teens have used them fr scial interactins (互动) like emtinal supprt r friendships, and they find these cnversatins with AI as satisfying as, r even mre satisfying than, thse with real-life friends. Despite half f the teens distrusting AI's advice, ne-third have discussed serius matters with it instead f with peple.
Thse findings are wrrisme, says Michael Rbb, the study's lead authr. He pints ut that rapidly (快速地) grwing AI, with few cntrls, is becming as integrated with teenagers as smartphnes and scial media are. That means AI is n lnger just a tl but is already becming a necessary part f teens' lives
Why are s many teenagers turning t AI fr cmpaninship? This is mainly because AI culd ffer real benefits that meet their needs. AI friends can be persnalized with different characteristics, ffering cnversatins that feel human-like and giving emtinal supprt. Talking t AI makes teens feel heard and understd, giving them a strng sense f cmfrt. As sme teens say, it's because AI “is always there fr yu”, “never gets bred with yu” and “never judges yu.”
While the idea f an always-available friend sunds interesting, educatrs and researchers wrry that relying (依赖) t much n AI culd have harmful effects n teenagers. Teenage years are an imprtant time fr develping a strng sense f self as well as scial abilities. If teens always turn t AI fr advice, agreement and cmfrt, they may miss chances t think n their wn, learn hw t deal with disagreements and understand thers' emtins. This culd finally weaken their ability t frm and keep real-life friendships. Mrever, AI may smetimes share misleading infrmatin r ffer pr advice, which can be risky fr yung users.
As mre teens cnsider AI as a cmpanin, Rbb warns that it shuld be a wake-up call fr parents, teachers, and the gvernment; that is, there culd be huge risks when chsing AI fr cmpaninship ver real-life friends.
25.Why des the writer use the example f Kayla Chege in Paragraph 1?
      A. T lead int a tpic.B. T explain an idea.

Curisity is ne f the mst imprtant qualities a persn can have. If we’re curius, we’re naturally ging t learn, grw, and think beynd what we already knw.
Mst f us are mre curius than we realize. All t ften, it isn’t an absence f curisity—it’s just that we dn’t knw what questins t ask. We haven’t been given the spark (火花) yet. That’s the magic f curisity: it starts with a gap (差距) in ur understanding. We hear smething, read r see smething, and a tiny vice inside says, “ des that mean?” That mment—that itch—is where curisity is brn.
The ther day, a friend f mine lit ne f my candles and made a passing cmment abut nt wanting t blw it ut t sn. The way she said it—s casually, like everybdy shuld knw it—immediately caught my attentin. I asked her what she meant, and she explained that t make a candle last lnger, we shuld let it burn fr at least an hur the first time, s the tp layer melts evenly (融化均匀). I had never heard that befre. T her, this might have been basic knwledge—but t me, it was a whle new wrld. I had n idea this was smething peple knew; I hadn’t even knwn there was a questin t ask.
And that’s the pint—it was never really abut the candle. That mment reminded me hw much I dn’t knw. Nt just abut candles, but abut everything. Hw many ther things have I verlked simply because I never thught t ask? In fact, we’re surrunded by learning pprtunities all the time, but nticing them is a skill we have t build. We have t train urselves t catch thse sparks.
S hw d we get better at being curius? One f the easiest ways is t surrund urselves with curisity. Lk fr peple—nline and in real life—wh make us think differently. Nt necessarily peple wh agree with us, but peple wh are curius themselves—wh lve learning and can’t help but share what they’ve discvered, wh make us want t pause (暂停) and check smething, wh dn’t have all the answers—but are excited t find them alngside us.
We dn’t have all the answers and we never will. But what we can try t d is t apprach (靠近) life as learners—paying attentin t details, asking questins, and being pen t new ideas. Because smetimes, a single spark—a candle, a questin—can pen up yur mind in a way that wuld have been impssible just a few days earlier. Smetimes it leads yu smewhere ttally unexpected. Smetimes it changes everything.
29.What can we learn frm the passage?
      A. Curisity is an unusual quality fr peple.
      B. Curisity has a lt t d with hw well we learn.
      C. Curisity disappears quickly nce we have all the answers.
      D. Curisity begins when we ntice gaps in ur understanding.
30.Why des the writer include the stry in Paragraph 3?
      A. T give advice n hw t make candles last lnger.
      B. T explain that basic knwledge matters in daily life.
      C. T advise us t pay clse attentin t small things arund us.
      D. T shw hw curisity can take shape in everyday experiences.
31.Which situatin best shws the message f the passage?
      A. Giving a helping hand t thse in need.
      B. Ging ver ntes carefully befre a test.
      C. Having cnversatins with different peple.
      D. Making plans ahead and managing time wisely.

I began t believe I had t lk r act a certain way t be accepted. Nt satisfied with wh I was, I kept trying t fix my lks and behavir t please ther peple. Over time, the pressure (压力) in my mind kept grwing. I saw nly my mistakes and started t feel that I was wrse than thers. I pushed myself t be “better”, but sn I felt tired, empty and far frm happy.
The turning pint came when my best friend said t me, “Jane, yu’re always lking fr smething wrng with yurself. What wuld it take fr yu t just accept wh yu are?” Her wrds hit me hard. I realized that I culdn’t truly imprve r be happy until I first accepted myself. That mment marked the beginning f my self-acceptance jurney.
I started reading abut self-acceptance and practiced it in small ways each day. The first step was nticing my strengths. When a classmate tld me I did a gd jb n the grup prject, I thanked her with a big smile. I stpped dubting praise, which helped me see myself mre clearly and feel mre cnfident. I als stayed clse t friends wh lifted me up. They supprted me withut judgment (评判) and encuraged me when I felt unsure. I felt calmer and free t be myself with them arund. What’s mre, I began t talk t myself with kindness. When I made mistakes, I tld myself, “It’s kay. Everyne makes mistakes,” instead f feeling bad all day. It helped me mve n mre easily.
