Light pllutin is the human-made change f utdr light levels frm thse that naturally exist. It is the presence f unwanted, unfit, r t much artificial ( 人 造 的 ) lighting. Light pllutin can have a number f bad effects, damaging wildlife, reducing natural beauty, and even threatening human health.
Despite a grwing awareness (意识) f light pllutin and its effects, and the increasing number f dark-sky places, the verall situatin is getting wrse. Accrding t a 2023 study published in Science magazine, the number f stars visible (可见的) in the night sky decreased between 7-10% per year frm 2011 t 2022. At that rate, a lcatin that had 250 visible stars in 2011 wuld see a reductin t just 100 visible stars ver a decade.
This wrsening f light pllutin is mainly due t several factrs. Alng with ppulatin grwth, peple seek higher standards f living, which leads t mre rads, huses, shpping malls, and street lighting. The type f lighting in use has als changed. LED lighting makes it very cheap t have mre light and brighter light than ever befre. Cupled with the wrng idea that mre light is better, hmewners and prperty managers are rapidly increasing the number f light utdrs.
Unlike envirnmental challenges like climate change, species extinctin, and habitat destructin ( 破 坏 ), which require significant tp-dwn respnses, meaningful actin can be taken frm the bttm up t address light pllutin. That means that as much as gvernments can make rules t limit light pllutin —— cuntries like France, Slvenia, and Cratia already have laws t this effect —— individual hmewners can make a difference by using light nly where and when needed. They can als chse t use warm-white r yellw light instead f blue light. This aids night visin by all animals, including peple.
There’s als a glbal mvement fr “dark-sky places”, which have plans t limit light pllutin and cmmunicate with lcal peple and cmpanies t prmte gd utdr lighting practices. Right nw, there are mre than 350 f these dark-sky places in the whle wrld.
      32. Why are the numbers mentined in the secnd paragraph?
      A. T explain the bad effects f light pllutin. B. T draw attentin t further space explratin. C. T intrduce the rapid increase in visible stars.
      D. T stress the achievement in reducing light pllutin.
      33. What may be a cause f the increase in light pllutin?
      A. Higher demands fr safety. B. The grwth f hmewners.
      C. Mre affrdable LED lighting. D. The rise f green awareness.
      34. What can we learn abut “dark-sky places” frm the last paragraph?
      A. The attentin t it is limited.
      B. The impact f it is unexpected. C. It has gained wrldwide supprt.
      D. It has imprved the cmmunicatin between cmpanies. 35. Which f the fllwing is a suitable title fr the text?
      A. The Rise f Dark-Sky Mvements
      B. The Future f LED Lighting Technlgy
      C. The Ecnmic Impact f Light Pllutin
      D. The Grwing Light Pllutin and Its Slutins
