一. 一般过去时的基本用法①表示过去某个时间或某一段时间内发生的动作或存在的状态，常和表示过去的时间状语连用，如：一段时间+ag、yesterday、yesterday mrning/afternn、last night/ week/mnth/year、the day befre yesterday (前天)、just nw (刚才)、in+过去的时间 (如in 2024) 等。②表示过去经常或反复发生的动作，常和ften、always等表示频度的词语连用。
I bught this cat last mnth. 我是上个月买的这件外套。I was brn in 1998. 我是1998年出生的。In ancient times, Chinese peple ften used willw branches as gifts when they said gdbye t their friends. 在古代，中国人与朋友告别时常常用柳枝作为礼物。
二、动词变过去式的规则
规则动词过去式的构成① 如果词尾有个 e, 直接加 -d 就可以； ② 辅音字母 y 结尾，变 y 为 i 加 -ed；③ 一辅重读闭音尾，双写之后加 -ed； ④过去式构成有规律，一般词尾加 -ed。
不规则动词的过去式变化需要特殊记忆，大致可分为以下几种:
