Dctr are knwn t be terrible pilts. They dn't listen because they already knw it all. I was lucky: I became a pilt in 1970, almst ten years befre I graduated frm medical schl. I didn't realize then, but becming a pilt makes me a better surgen. I lved flying. As I flew bigger, faster planes, and in wrse weather. I learned abut crew resurce management (机组资源管理), r CRM, a new idea t make flying safer. It means that crew members shuld listen and speak up fr a gd result, regardless f psitins.
I first read abut CRM in 1980. Nt lng after that, an attending dctr and I were flying in bad weather. The cntrller had us turn t late t get ur landing ready. The attending dctr was flying; I was safety pilt He was s busy because f the bad turn, he had frgtten t put the landing gear (起落架) dwn. He was a better pilt - and my bss - s it felt unusual t speak up. But I had t: Our lives were in danger. I put aside my uneasiness and said, "We need t put the landing gear dwn nw!" That was my first real lessn in the pwer f CRM, and I've used it in the perating rm ever since.
CRM requires that the pilt/ surgen encurage thers t speak up. It further requires that when pinins are frm the ppsite, the dctr desn't verreact, which might prevent fellw dctrs frm vicing pinins again. S when I'm in the perating rm, I ask fr ideas and help frm thers. Smetimes they're nt willing t speak up. But I hpe that if I cntinue t encurage them, smeday smene will keep me frm “landing gear up”.

I learned abut crew resurce management (机组资源管理), r CRM, a new idea t make flying safer. It means that crew members shuld listen and speak up fr a gd result, regardless f psitins.
I first read abut CRM in 1980. Nt lng after that, an attending dctr and I were flying in bad weather. The cntrller had us turn t late t get ur landing ready. The attending dctr was flying; I was safety pilt He was s busy because f the bad turn, he had frgtten t put the landing gear (起落架) dwn. He was a better pilt - and my bss - s it felt unusual t speak up. But I had t: Our lives were in danger. I put aside my uneasiness and said, "We need t put the landing gear dwn nw!" That was my first real lessn in the pwer f CRM, and I've used it in the perating rm ever since.
CRM requires that the pilt/ surgen encurage thers t speak up. It further requires that when pinins are frm the ppsite, the dctr desn't verreact, which might prevent fellw dctrs frm vicing pinins again. S when I'm in the perating rm, I ask fr ideas and help frm thers. Smetimes they're nt willing t speak up. But I hpe that if I cntinue t encurage them, smeday smene will keep me frm “landing gear up”.
