Dctr are knwn t be terrible pilts. They dn't listen because they already knw it all. I was lucky: I became a pilt in 1970, almst ten years befre I graduated frm medical schl. That was my first real lessn in the pwer f CRM, and I've used it in the perating rm ever since.
CRM requires that the pilt/ surgen encurage thers t speak up. It further requires that when pinins are frm the ppsite, the dctr desn't verreact, which might prevent fellw dctrs frm vicing pinins again. S when I'm in the perating rm, I ask fr ideas and help frm thers. Smetimes they're nt willing t speak up. But I hpe that if I cntinue t encurage them, smeday smene will keep me frm “landing gear up”.

Dawsn did nt have any f the natural cnveniences f cities like Lndn r Paris. Peple went there fr gld. They travelled ver snw-cvered muntains and sailed hundreds f miles up icy rivers. The path t Dawsn was cvered with thirty feet f wet snw that culd fall withut warming. An avalanche(雪崩) nce clsed the path, killing 63 peple. Fr many wh made it t Dawsn, hwever, the rewards were wrth the difficult trip. Of the first 20,000 peple wh dug fr gld, 4,000 gt rich. Abut 100 f these stayed rich men fr the rest f their lives.

Befre the 1830s, mst newspapers were sld thrugh annual subscriptins in America, usually $ 8 t $ 10 a year. It had been pssible( but nt easy) t buy single cpies f newspapers befre 1830, but this usually meant the reader had t g dwn t the printer’s ffice t purchase a cpy. Street sales were almst unknwn. Hwever, within a few years, street sales f newspapers wuld be cmmnplace in eastern cities. At first the price f single cpies was seldm a penny-usually tw r three cents was charged -and sme f the lder well-knwn papers charged five r six cents. But the phrase “penny paper” caught the public’s fancy, and sn there wuld be papers that did indeed sell fr nly a penny.
This new trend f newspapers fr “the man n the street” did nt begin well. Sme f the early ventures (企业) were immediate failures. Publishers already in business, peple wh were wners f successful papers, had little desire t change the traditin. It tk a few yuthful and daring businessmen t get the ball rlling.

Rain pattered utside, and the lw rumble f thunder was felt mre than heard. Inside the czy living rm, 10-year-ld twins, Jake and Ben, huddled n the cuch, brwsing thrugh their favrite sngs n the tablet.
“Hey Jake, I think we shuld perfrm this ne,” Ben said, pinting t a classic track they bth lved.
Jake hesitated, “I lve that sng, Ben, but it has high ntes. Yu knw I struggle with thse.”
Ben smirked, “That’s why we’re a team, right? I’ve gt the high ntes, and yu’ve gt thse amazing lw tnes. Tgether, we’re unbeatable.”
Jake sighed, feeling a pinch f anxiety. The schl’s annual singing cntest was nly a weekaway, and they had decided t participate as a du (搭档). Bth brthers were talented, but while Ben was cnfident and had an impressive range, Jake ften battled stage fright and dubted his abilities.
“Okay, let’s give it a sht,” Jake finally agreed, taking a deep breath.
The fllwing days were filled with rehearsals. After schl, they wuld lck themselves in their bedrm and practice. Their parents wuld ccasinally hear their harmnies, smiles playing n their lips, prud f their determined sns.
Hwever, nt every rehearsal went smthly. There were times Jake wuld miss a nte, and Ben’s high ntes wuld smetimes waver. There were disagreements ver pacing, key changes, and even the kind f emtins they shuld evke during specific parts f the sng.
Yet, what made their bnd unbreakable was their unwavering supprt fr each ther. When Jake felt nervus abut the impending (逼近的) perfrmance, Ben wuld reassure him. “Yu have a gift, Jake. Trust in it. And if yu ever falter, remember I’m right there with yu.”
On the ther hand, when Ben struggled with his high ntes, Jake was his pillar f strength. “Just relax, take a deep breath, and let it ut. We’ve gt this, br.”
Days passed, and the day f the cntest arrived. The schl auditrium was buzzing with excitement. Families, teachers, and students filled every seat. As Jake and Ben waited backstage, Jake felt his heart racing. The murmur f the audience was deafening, and the weight f the stage lights made everything seem surreal.
“Hey,” Ben whispered, squeezing Jake’s hand, “remember the time we sang in frnt f ur entire family during the reunin? It’s the same, just a slightly larger family.”
Jake chuckled, feeling a bit better. “Yeah, a ‘slightly’ larger ne.”
